Yes, this year is remarkably similar to 2007 and hopeful it will be their first final where they get smashed.

I'm absolutely gutted because I never expected them to win today and when we got 4 goals up with 5 minutes to play I thought the boys have done it proud but to lose a game like that is inexcusable and now I know how North Melbourne fans feel. It is gut wrenching.

I'm sorry, but what an absolutely immature attitude. You shouldn't have lost that game, but the fact is that you did, you make your own luck, and for better or woes you came odd second best.

As someone pointed out before, the crows beat NM in a far more 'farsical' manner previously in the year.

Don't get me wrong, I won't stop supporting adelaide during the season unless they are playing the Power, but it's children like you who really make it hard to identify with your supporter base. While some people would have said similar things on the Power board had we lost, I would not be one; so, grow the F up.

What a great game of football; closest showdown ever, and I very much look forward to round one next year!

I dont think we choked as the momentum of the game ebbed and flowed the whole way through. Port were up by 20 something points just before half time before things swung back our way.

In the end sadly we didn't do enough during Port's last surge to save the game.

Port wanted it more (as they always seem to do against us). Bounce or no bounce, they deserved to win that game.

They are in the perfect position to challenge for a flag over the next few years. Years of high draft picks (Boak, Hartlett, Wingard and Wines) are paying off plus they finally have a decent admin and coaching set up.

Meanwhile we are the new Richmond; a handful of guns and talented youngsters but otherwise woefully inept.

They had more to lose and played like it that last 5 mins.
We still shat though.

If any of you subscribe to the crows youtube channel , go have a look at the look on Bernie Vince's face in the screenshot for his post-match interview
I still feel like that now.

I'm not sure either team did or didn't deserve to win it. Both teams gave everything and in the end it could have gone either way. A classic showdown and by the looks of the two teams there will be more to come over the next few years.

Sometimes both teams deserve to win.

I can't believe that it took 35 showdowns before the final margin was under 6 points -

Port Adelaide can take the Football Park dominance, just as long as we dominate Adelaide oval :D

Sucks doesn't it?

Sucks doesn't it?

Yeah for sure -

My North Melbourne supporting friend asked me on Sunday night if I'd swap the Crows comeback win against North for a showdown win against Port -

It was a hard question - Only because I was at the Docklands when the Crows somehow won that game...

As I wasn't at Football Park to see us lose, and I was at the Docklands to see us win, I decided that I wouldn't swap the victories...

I wonder if others would have a different perspective

The game at Etihad was just unbelievable. I saw it coming. I think the score was 124-101, we were in front. I went to the toilet then left when the crowd got to under a goal down.

While the Monfries bounce no doubt hurt, there was another really bad bounce just before wingard kicked the sealer. The ball was near the port 50m arc and was knocked into their 50. The ball was carrying toward smack and should have comfortably bounced toward him but it hit the ground, bounced back on itself and allowed the Port player to run onto it, where it ended up with Monfries and.... you know the rest. Anyway, had the ball done what it was told, smack would have gathered and cleared it.

Anyway, I taped the game and watched the 4th quarter again closely. Sure, there was some luck for Port, but what stood out to me was their work rate. Our players were caught 2-3 metres behind Port players at critical contests around the ground (Thommo and Smack were the main culprits). I saw another stoppage where Douglas won the ball and had 6 port players around him, with no crows players there for support. So either Port worked much harder, or we stopped working (or both).

We also had a few guys looking for cheap ball. A few were happy to run well forward of the ball and being caught out on the rebound. After port took the lead with about 40 seconds to go, the ruck contest in the middle of the ground showed the same thing. At the ruck contest, it was basically a dead ball and Jacobs and Crouch ran forward, while it was the port ruckman who stuck with the contest, roved it and kicked it into Port's attack.

Anyway, I'm certainly not placing any blame on individual players because there were many mistakes. But after watching the last quarter closely, we were simply outworked and outnumbered at the contests, and we started to cherry pick and completely lost our defensive mindset at critical stoppages.

I was there. Your guys did not choke. Ridiculous.

A momentum swing that they did not address maybe.

I am surprised that they didn't go defensive more, especially at the two centre bounces!

The game was so close that it was always going to come down to the team that finished the game with the momentum. Port got it back with 6 mins left and we could do nothing to reverse it.

Exactly. We thought we had it in the bag and stopped working. It's far easier to blame the Footy Gods though.

The footy gods aren't the reason that 6 of the 7 players closest to the drop of the final centering ball (20m out, dead in front, where it was always going to go) were Port Adelaide.

Nor are the footy gods the reason that the kid who carved us up all day was still 5m in the clear (as he had been all day) and had a clean and uninterrupted run at what ended up being an uncontested mark.

We just stopped working hard enough. Simple.

I watched a replay of the Gray goal that started the comeback. Where was the pressure at the stoppage? I wasn't imagining it at the ground where he basically waltzed through and kicked an easy goal.

Photo says it all. Absolutely disgusting.

All those people who keep defending Van Berlo's captaincy, where the **** was his valuable leadership when this was happening?

There was also some decision making issues.

On this image (sorry about the quality), Smith was pushing the Port player boundary side. You can see Grigg running past the port player with the ball to man up his player, who was also boundary side (I assume this is the case given he is sprinting to the pocket). As soon as grigg passed the port player, he immediately turned inside to hit wingard on the lead in the middle of the ground. Not sure if this is a grigg mistake or he’s doing what he was told and manning up. But I would have thought you play the percentages and pressure the ball carrier. I just wonder whether he was told to man up or made a mistake. Had grigg ran towards the port player with the ball, he never would have turned inside and kicked to Wingard.

This resulted in one of wingard's 4th quarter goals.

Well said, these are pretty much thoughts as well.

Our rivalry is going to have some real meaning in the next 5 or so years I reckon. Good times.

I reckon it's a great preview of what is to come over the next few years with SA footy. The 2 Showdowns this year have been of a bloody high quality, and imagine how much better it'll be watching the games at AO instead?

Or the MCG in that last Saturday in September......2016
