Police find $28 million worth of tobacco at illegal NSW plantation ....
'An illegal tobacco plantation with an estimated value of more than $28 million has been raided by police, seizing 16 tonnes of the crop in one of the biggest crop busts in NSW history.''The joint investigation into the large-scale illicit plantation was composed of detectives and investigators from the NSW Police Force’s State Crime Command, the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), the ATO and the Australian Border Force (ABF) Illicit Tobacco Taskforce.
While no arrests have been made, inquiries are continuing.'
Who doesnt know someone in the market for a bit of chop, chop. Its just a bit of tax evasion, fair game they say.
'It has been illegal to grow tobacco in Australia for more than a decade, with the offence carrying a maximum penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment.'
