My only criticism this trade period is that we didn't nab any pre-listed players. There was still al ot of good options floating around. Hutchings, Tom Lee, Spur or Blackwell. Tom Lee sounds like a really good option, I wonder if we will use a pick in the 70's to draft him to the main list.

I daresay - PSD/RD.

Blackwell or Horsley would be nice, I am sure we would look at them if they are available in the 70's. Pre-listed players such as Blackwell are strong ready to go players who may be able to cut it at AFL level.

Freo have found a knack of targeting mature players even in the rookie trade such as Lower, COS and Barlow. I look forward to seeing their early young gun picks as well as their later draft picks.

Harris: When you ready, you wont need to.

Bond is the messiah!

The love for bond is strange. The bloke had one and only trade target: mitch clark. He mentioned tonight that we agreed on sat trade with the lions, but by that stage the d's had upped there offer and mitch pulled the pin.
Bond screwed the pooch on this one. The only way he can come off looking like a messiah is if Lloyd can pull out another Fyfe with pick 16 and make his mate look good.
C Bond - fail

Easily spotted troll easily spotted.

C Bond, doesn't submit to renegade player demands for contracts. Especially when said player is only above average.

C Bond - winner.

Read my thread about free agency next year. There are better targets available in years to come.

Had one trade target, and had an idea of when the cost is too high. Cost got too high, he didnt loose his head, and screw our salary cap or drafting for a year. He walked away. Melbourne are being painted as being gutsy etc, but I dont understand it.. they bought him.. it wasnt their professionalism, blah blah blah. They threw all their money at a bloke who isnt worth it..

Bond didnt, and for this reason he is respected and supported here..

Don't Get me wrong Im more than Happy we didn't match the offer. But bond had one target for the week, agreed on the trade with lions...ie we struck a deal that we were satisfied with, yet still couldn't land the target. Clarks ability or lack thereof doesn't change any of this.
Let's just hope for some draft gems with the knowledge that we have a warchest to throw at one of the west aus boys playing for the suns that will be out of contract in 12 months.

Perhaps so, but I'm still a bit surprised the was no plan B. Because they were only fixated on Clark, I'm not sure Bondy didn't take his eye off the ball when it came to other possible names floating around the "up for offer" tables during the week. I give him the benefit of the doubt because he certainly has no other black marks against his name until now. We may all be thankful if pick 16/20 gets us a couple of gems.

The moment is lost is time and frozen in cold text. It was a bit of sarcasm, there was talk in another thread about Clark being hailed as the messiah, so I made that comment about Bond being the messiah as a bit of a joke to counter.

It's all a question of priorities. Judging from Bonds comments today: getting Clark was not as high a trading priority as keeping us in with a first round draft pick. Looking at it that way it makes sense the way he acted. The first target was to stay in the first round, and to get Clark was only the second target.

definitely, vindicated by the fact we traded away our compo pick in order to stay in or around the first round after the Clark deal.

The "target", as you put it, held all the aces here.

It doesn't matter shit if the clubs agreed informally to the deal.

Clark was uncontracted and went where he wanted in the end.

Bond is untouchable in this negotiation.

And what players were they??

And I mean players with a proven reputation and who suited our needs?

The fact that the CLARK trade was the biggest thing to happen over the whole trade week speaks volumes as to how shallow the talent pool which was available over the past week.

Anyone would think that Wayne Carey was being auctioned if you go by the current reactions.
