Had one trade target, and had an idea of when the cost is too high. Cost got too high, he didnt loose his head, and screw our salary cap or drafting for a year. He walked away. Melbourne are being painted as being gutsy etc, but I dont understand it.. they bought him.. it wasnt their professionalism, blah blah blah. They threw all their money at a bloke who isnt worth it..

Bond didnt, and for this reason he is respected and supported here..

This :thumbsu: Negotiations Skills 101. Know your limit, disregard emotion and be prepared to walk. In Swabby days we would have sold the farm. Now that i think of it Clark is probably in the same class of player as Croad.

Listening to Bond last night, it's fair to say in heinsight if he knew we could get pick 20 out of our compo pick then he would've pulled the trigger with pick 16 on a Clarke trade on the first day.

I think that if there's no other plan for a KPF, then he should've gone for it.

^ still glad we didn't tho, as other more learned people have said before, it puts us in better shape next year for free agency, and allows us to reward our young superstars at their next contract negotiation

Don't get me wrong - I'm not in the 'pissed off we didn't get Clark' camp

But I'm in the 'we need a decent/tall forward' camp. If it isn't addressed in the draft i'll be disagreeing with some of the niceties in this thread.

I don't think we should draft him but I do believe Setanta should be given life membership of the AFL and a high paid job for life somewhere in the system.

As should anyone who boots a Cloke up the clacker.

Thanks for posting the link. How many times can they ask "Should you of got the deal done earlier in the week?" Do they even know what the usual processes are and how trade week is approached? I can't wait for the ND! Even though it is seen as a shallow draft I'm not sure if It totally agree. With our 3 top 30 selections we should hopefully do well.

the way i look at it, is that we have managed to get barlow, broughton, lower and silvagni all with rookie selections. we should be able to find some gold with our three top 30 picks... starting with shane kersten

I do not blame Bond for not getting Clark, Colin Young is one of the best player manages going around and it was always about getting Clark out of Brisbane and getting the best deal for Clark. I'm sure he new Melbourne would come back with another offer.

efa...

Same. Add to that overrated.

Yeah, put my name down as well.

Have a read of the Brissie fans getting stuck into Clark now, re: his goal kicking and lack of second efforts.

Sounds like a very expensive version of Spud Murphy.

One good year and a lifetime of learning how to tie a shoelace.

I think Ross Lyon might want to be a bit more hands on during next years Draft Week after this years fail effort.

We need to look at what we need first and then look after the "homesick" a distant second.

Yeah.. Who would you prefer calling the shots come draft day, the guy pulling in Hill, Mora, Fyfe, Broughton, SNOS, Barlow etc. Or the guy bringing in a handful of flakey talls that have since been traded/delisted/remaining on the fringes and burning ND picks on Polo, Gamble etc.

Although all our ND picks last year were all Vics, their seasons can hardly be put down to a lack of talent or drive from their perspective. I reckon Lyon'll get more out of Pitt, Mitchie & Mellington this year than Harves did last year.

There is huge upside in all these 3 boys. Only way is up from here.
