This is a really good poll.

Both have great endurance, both are adept at playing FF and CHF.

Hansens a better contested mark but Dawes is smarter on a lead.

I would take Hansen because of the versatility he provides.

Dawes doesn't really play a traditional CHF role. He can take contested marks but more often than not, will look to bring in others through creative ground play & handball. He had low stats in the replay GF, kicked 2 goals & had his hand in at least 4 others, which goes under the radar.

Hansen by an absolute mile....also Hansen over CLoke.

Dawes is a premiership player so what...if Hansen played for that side he would be a premiership player and Dawes would be in the VFL...his medallion adds no weight to the arguement.

Hansen is a better forward firstly. Secondly he is versatile and can also play back.

Hansen is slightly ahead at the moment, he should extend that lead though.

He is not even close to Cloke though and unless he becomes the dominant CHF in the game (I don't think he will), I don't really believe he'll be much better of a player.

The only time that Hansen has had an extended run in the forward line was rounds 10 to 21 of the past season, before a leg injury put him out for the last game.

Hansen rounds 10-21

160 disposals, 75 marks, 23 goals/14 behinds.

Cloke rounds 10-21

178 disposals, 77 marks, 22 goals/29 behinds.

Cloke has played 74 games more than Hansen, has a heap more development behind him and enjoys the luxury of a far superior midfield.

There's very little between them now and Hansen will go past Cloke.

It's also important to remember that Hansen kept Cloke to 13 disposals, 4 marks and 1:1, in a game in which Collingwood had 42 scoring shots.

The Dawes comparison is ridiculous. I'm not knocking Dawes, he is a much improved and very honest footballer, but Hansen will become a top 3 or 4 KPP unless injury intervenes.

you do relize that cloke was suspended for 2 games during this period.
and if you could turn your attention towards clokes 29 behinds 20 of them a couple inches left or right and cloke status in the game would be one of considerble standing. hansen and dawes is what we are talking about anyways, even that discussion will be decided quite quickly as dawes will dominate all full backs that seem to be filtering through at the moment. honestly all forwards will lick their lips, as the quality of tall backs is rather weak compared to previous generations of backmen.

If someone like Travis Cloke is considered a gun CHF then is shows just how weak the current generation of tall forwards.

FFS - the likes of Carey, Grant, Lockett, Loewe would rack up the kind of stats in a month that it took Cloke most of a season.

CHF is the toughest position on the ground and we have been spoiled until recently with good ones, that could mark in packs, on the lead, win it on the ground and kick long and straight. These gems are the exception, not the rule as we are seeing at the moment Cloke is about 15 -20% kicking accuracy from being a super damaging CHF. There have been others having some or most of the tools but finding a Hart, Lockett, Carey or Grant is like winning the lottery - so much has fall correctly and luck with injuries plays its part here as well.

Oh good call using the grown ups line. You are original aren't you.

Apologies if you don't like my unbias view champ but thats how most people see it.

Also of course Riewoldt over Hansen...is that so hard to comprehend. The kid just won a Coleman at 21 in the 15th placed side.

Colemans, age and ladder placement are all of little relevance other than to state Jack Riewoldt is a very talented footballer.

It would be impossible for a player that demands as much of the ball as Riewoldt to win a Coleman Medal in a top 8 side. Whilst Richmond continue to ram the ball in Riewoldts area at every opportunity, they will never be a good side.

In fact, I think reading between the lines, Richmond have conceded this in todays copy of The Age:
RICHMOND has urged Coleman medallist Jack Riewoldt to become more team oriented and defensive.................

I expect Hansen to go past Riewoldt also. Hansen has more strings to his bow.

However, currently you are correct. Riewoldt is ahead of Hansen.

I understand your point however I think it is a selective argument. Sure he had alot of ball directed towards him percentage was, but our inside 50's were no where near as high as a Collingwood, Hawks, Dogs ect. Therefore as Richmond rise up on the back of the midfield he will get the same amount of delivery as well as more efficient delivery. The other point I would make is that it is much easier to take grabs when you are not double and triple teamed. I agree we need to develop more attacking options and we are via Post and Griffiths, however this will only mean as these guys get better Riewoldt won't need to take pack mrks on 3 defenders. Instead he will be 1 out alot more.

Don't think Hansen will ever be better than Riewoldt. May be able to get to a similar level, but Jack at 21 is a up and coming superstar of the game. To top that Hansen would have to do something extremely special.

Roo2 is in a crap side and still won the coleman. So to all you people saying he wont mak it then I suggest you get your brains checked.

Dawes got everything to him on a plate this year. Good player, but never more then your second tall as best. Hansen though could be anything, has a lot of x factor about him. Like a less talented Buddy Franklin :p.

Quite happy with Dawesy. He is vital to structure, much better than Anthony.

Not better than Hansen but we don't need Hansen (obviously ;]) but Dawesy was great in the GF replay and to say he gets things handed to him on a platter is ridiculous since Collingwood score so many goals through our midfield, we probably go to the full forward least in the comp.

Dawesy does alright.

Hansen comfortably.

Hansen was an elite junior who should develop in to an elite AFL KPP.

Hansen also has a heap more improvement in him compared to Dawes.

If he stays fit, then he should comfortably pass the 160 mark tally for the home and away season. Especially, if the coach settles him in the one position.
Agree with summation of Hansen- will be a star one day.

Dont think u gave Dawes enough credence though. Did a very good job this year. Knows his strengths and limitations and plays within them- can't ask for much more in a player.

Both good young footballers who seem to be (in Dawes case moreso then Hansen) underrated from other teams supporters.

Would still keep Hansen if given the opportunity to swap, will develop into a fine KPF who can also go back if desperately needed. Watch for him in 2011, but especially 2012.
