Had this Carlton bloke on the other side of the aisle, lets just say after my 3/4 time "dance" when Harry goaled, I didn't see him again.

He was giving me shit in the 3rd quarter, but he went missing late, a little bit like his team.

I forget how much I hate the scum until we play them, I was a little out of control today.:eek::D
 
He's just the right body type to support Cloke and looks to have decent enough endurance as well. He and Cloke could develop that nice Rocca/Tarrant combination where they switch between working up the ground and staying home.
Also like how he tends to drift to the opposite wing to Cloke so no getting in each others way which was a characteristic of his 2008 games.

that sounds like a typical carlton supporter. glad you had fun but you would've been nervous in the third quarter when they were looking like getting on top of us. it's always good beating carlton especially when it's a smashing.
 
Geez, watching Malthouses presser he was very, very reluctant to give Dawes any praise at all. He said he is an 'emerging player' and big guys only find their legs after around 50 games. Too right Mick, so stop pissing about and keep giving him games, he has nothing more to learn by playing in the VFL anymore.

haven't watched yet, but the 3AW commentators were all voer him and how good he was.

Wallsy was saying that he is the key matchup and they need to get White off him before the game gets beyind reach
 
Bloody good game, busted some packs, harrassed when the ball hit the deck and took a couple of grabs above his head.
As someone else mentioned, could easily have six today and I don't think his score sheet really reflects his accuracy. One hit the post which was unlucky and he fluffed his second shot of the day just because he over-thought it I reckon, just needs to settle into it a bit which he will with time. But that shot when he was pegged in on the boundary was beautiful to watch.

The two big boys feed off each other a bit as well, the extra big body seems to be helping Cloke a lot. I'm really keen to see this partnership continue to develop.

Not sure we can fit Jack in the forward line as well, especially as Medhurst looks best when he is a target and taking grabs on the lead, think it'd leave us too exposed on the deck with the 3 talls + Medders (who I find is a great tackler, but not a great crumber). The competition for spots is a good problem to have though.

Agree with mdc though, no comparison with Rocca at all outside of body size. Doesn't like the body duel anywhere near as much as Pebbles did and while he made his presence felt in some aerial contests, he'll never break them open like Rocca did; but that's fine. Swings the leg through a bit like Pebs when kicking for goal though I noticed.

I still think he needs to learn be instinctively taking all his marks with his hands out it front, running to meet the pill. If he continues to rest on his laurels and try to chest mark most things (even the ones that are probably cater made for the chest mark), he'll find good defenders will get in and chop it off... Out in front of his face and he'll completely negate their ability to do so.

Great game by him today though, credit to his persistence.

If Dawes continues the way he went today it will give us two valuable forward options to go through the season with. Go small with medhurst, didak, davis, thomas, swan. or have fraser cloke dawes and anthony rotating through. Not a bad position to be in, would love to see anthony dawes and cloke play together.

I can see the physical comparison and the kicking action. I agree he has a way to before he's anywhere near Rocca in presence or output.
I really thought today was a good progression from last season and last year though.
Only his second game for the year, so I'm not expecting world dominance just yet.

Because against better defenders it will allow them to get a spoil in. He was still shaky overhead today but I think when he needed to go for overhead marks he did and when he had time to take them on the chest he went with the more reliable option. If he does this i'm fine with the chest marks. He still needs to improve overhead however. But i'm loath to be too critical when he worked so hard and showed so much today.
