While I still wish he had a vertical leap he was bloody great today.
Clearly his best game IMO regardless of how many goals he has kicked in other games.

The Hawks really lack that big bodied defender so Dawes could exposed them one on one. Won't happen in the finals against WBD/Gee and St.K will also be ok in that regard also so seeing him chase as hard as he did today was very pleasing. Likewise Cloke who also will come up against some much stronger defenders over the coming weeks.

He's coming along very nicely, clearly the better forward option than Jack was this year so I'm glad we have persisted with him. Seems to be getting better every week and always seems to give it 100%. Hopefully he has a big influence in the finals. Looks like in a few years he could be a very dominant force in our forward line.

Loved Dawes game today and he is progressing at a great pace. A very straight kick, what we need in our forward line and also brings a second large presence with Cloke which can be developed further in the future. Hopefully he can shine even more in the finals.

He needs to get more selfish.
There seems to be a lot more % in the big fella having a ping, than kicking it into Pendlebury's back anyway.
Thought he was good when the ball hit the deck. He's pretty good at dishing off the handball and should teach Cloke how to handball to moving players.

Again on the skeptical side of things but he was always going to monster Strattan who is a rake and a first year player. I have no doubt that Dawes will get his fair share of undersized defenders to bully over the course of a season. The problem is he isn't going to find it as easy to rag doll and chest mark against the likes the good defenders.
TD the chest mark was just as much about poor defending as anything else, how defenders let a ball get to the back of a pack in the goal square is beyond me, I get he moved the pack around a bit with his size but at AFL level he should never have been able to get that ball there.
His chasing work and pressure was fantastic though and it was a good game from him. I think the absolute biggest change in his game and one that was needed is he has learnt to "play tall" even if he is not taking marks he is using his size, presenting a target making very good contests.
