Watts will be that true CHF, he isn't a FF.

Dawes kicked 24 goals in 16 games, don't forget.

That's around 35 goals for a season (22 games).

That's a solid return and all we would need from him.

He will also improve by moving out of the shadow of Cloke.
I'm don't think Watts has the hands in the air to be the true CHF (or the FF). I know he's still young but he just hasn't shown marking ability that a future gun CHF should have by now. But I can see him becoming an all over ground player who has the ability to go to FF if he gets a good match up. Especially because Howe and Jurrah can also be in the side.

Firstly, I doubt that Dawes would leave a top club like Collingwood, even if he was offered more elsewhere.

Secondly, good power forwards don't grow on trees these days. If you want to get them, you have to offer more than their true worth. We are crying out for a big strong forward, if there's an opportunity to sign one, then we need to have a serious crack.

I personally don't rate this bloke that highly. Playing with the blokes he has around him makes him look way better than he is.... (in my opinion)

I have to agree. I though he bagged more than that. But a couple of dozen goals in the premier side who have an amazing midfield who deliver the ball into the F50 constantly isn't a great return.

Edit: Even Jurrah kicked 40 odd in 3/4 of a season in a team whose inside 50's are akin to trying to hit a bullseye on a dartboard with a tooth pick blindfolded.
And how many goals have the Geelong key forwards kicked this year? Measuring a forward by the number of goals kicked is neanderthal thinking.

Sorry to intrude guys, but I personally think there is a misperception that Dawes can "clunk" a mark. In reality, the guy is pretty poor overhead and plays a role at best.

Would just hate to see a club throw a first rounder at this guy.

Ok had a read through. We could definitely do with Dawes. May have to pay overs though. If he is out of reach I say have a look at Jessie White. Would one at a smaller cost possibly trade for Bate. But yes Dawes is a better option.
In regard to Watts I think he took some great contested marks this year. He is only going to get stronger and he will be more a hit up CHF also using his speed and endurance to run back into F50 to provide another goal kicking option.
Jurrah is a freak and a big forward would free him up. Hopefully he is let off the leash a bit next year. Thought he seemed restricted at times this year.

LADS i started a thread on him 5 weeks ago when i got some inside word we will go after him, expect melbourne to offer him in the vacinity of 1.2-1.4 for 3 years....and i first pick plus a player maybe a dunn or bate or even maric....

This is about his value, he would definitely add something to our list, i wouldnt want to offer anything more than our worste first round pick from the 3, also i wouldnt disregard the chance he could pull a SME and improve when he has a forward line to himself...

wouldnt pay over though

even though im on record as saying we shouldnt go for him at the price being talked about, i then sit back ands think that Mark Neeld would know Chris Dawes better than just about anyone.

So if Neeldy wants Dawes, Im gonna back him.

As much as i'd love Dawes, i'd love O'meara that much more.

Go after Todd Elton in this years draft. He's big, plays like a real FF, has the body to put on serious size, plays with real aggression, can take a contested grab and has a body that is ready for AFL footy next year. Sure he's no Hurley or Darling, that can just walk straight in, but those guys are genetic freaks and their bodies were pretty much fully mature when drafted, ala Daniel Rich. Elton is in-between, which allows for a much higher ceiling.

Get Elton and bring in O'Meara with Viney in another years time. 2 birds really.

Losing Scully may have pushed back our window a year, but if we're smart and recruit properly, that window could be allowed to stay open for longer, than if Scully decided to stay.

Agree, we need Todd Elton, I just hope he is still around at pick 12, I can see Birsbane or GWS picking him up before us.

I think Elton will be available at 12, but personally Im liking the sound of Sumner.

If he's not there McKenzie, Docherty or Crozier would interst me as well.

Wouldnt surprise me if we had a look at Talia either to be honest.

Crozier would be great at the Dees!! Imagine Jurrah, Howe, Petterd, Newton and Crozier, who would take mark of the year???
