Easily his best game this year. Looked to have got his timing right by the 2nd half. His hands were much surer in the air and he just looked altogether sharper, except with his goal kicking. Dawes is more useful than Wood in nthe ruck because he is able to hold and expand his territory - he won a few hiotuts against Pyke where he out-bodied him. Cannot fault his endeavour, or that of Beams, Jolly, Blair,Reid, O'Brien and everyone else who contributed to the win
He only had one shot, the one at the start that hit the post, far from his worst kick

Yes! I've stuck by him throughout the year when others wanted him dropped, and now persisting with him is finally paying off. Just shows that you should keep the faith! Good to see a bit of mongrel back in him too, hitting contests hard and throwing his weight around! We need more of that from him in the finals.

8 marks for the match too, which was the highest for the night! Hell yeah, Dawesy! Keep it up!

How many goals did he kick last night?
None as you well know - but what we did see was a strong dominant performance from Chris when the game was up for grabs in the last quarter, including excellent work against Mummy.

PS - think he has kicked 10 in the last four games - i'll be happy with that average from here on in - wont you?

He tries very very very hard. I never put shit on a player who is giving it 100%. I watched his ruck work yesterday and he's doing ok. You cant replicate in a couple of years, the kind of experience that Leroy got in whole career. He's still the best option for second ruck and I dont see that changing this year.

well done for the last quarter where he was crucial to getting the ball into the forward 50.

No goals. Ah, I thought he must of kicked a bag of 5 or so given the reactions of many punters in this thread.

Just looked at the ruck stats, 4 hitouts, 0 to advantage. Yep, excellent work against mummy.

A bit of a reality check people, too much praise is given for 1 good quarter of football.

8 marks - the most for the match from either team, plus 15 possessions. Did you even watch the match? Take your negativity elsewhere (I'll give you a hint; it ain't in this thread).

Great game, Dawesy!:):thumbsu:

Just needs to build on that performance. Didn't get any goals but thats not a big worry if he does what he did in the second half. Loved when he threw his mouth guard at the swans player. Gold.

He took three very important marks in the last quarter, and that is probably the basis for his 'good' game. He also did some pretty stupid things, but he certainly played better last night than he has all year.

If that is all he has though, then he isn't cutting it. We should only be excited if this is an indication of a turning point, rather than his actual standard.

Mate if you watch that final quarter, you will know why he is getting so much praise. Sounds like you didn't even watch the game... The marks he took were absolutely crucial, allowed us to setup for an entry into 50 rather than turn it over from halfback or have stoppages.

If you want to cherry-pick stats that suit your argument whilst having no regard for the context of the game, then how bad was Jolly? Not one mark from a ruckman is hopeless, drop him now. Same for Beams. One mark is a clear sign that he's not working hard enough to find space. Needs some time back in the two's until he starts to put in some genuine effort with his running. And how can Reid possibly call himself a defender with only two tackles to his name?

We're a joke of a side.

If you look at the post match discussion thread, I acknowledged Dawes last quarter (as well as others) went a big way in helping the team win. But i don't ignore the previous 3 quarters and if look at the entire game as a whole, Dawes wouldn't be within the 15 best players on the ground. And if you look at his both opponents Ted Richards up forward and Mike Pyke in the ruck, they both beat him at their respective roles.

Now I'm not saying that Dawes was awful. He played his part in helping the TEAM win, I just want a bit of perpective when you start handing out praise based on one good quarter of football.

I'm happy to be called wrong, in fact rumour has it that Dawesy got a McDonalds small cheeseburger meal voucher at the end of the game from the coaching staff as an encouragement incentive for his sterling form of late.

I see both sides of this argument but the pleasing thing is that he finished the game off so well and grabbed everything in sight and most importantly, looked really dangerous.

I am seeing his confidence rise and I'm hoping this means he will take up next week where he left off this week. Let's hope that like Hawkins last year that he is hitting form at the right time of the year.

Liked his game, building nicely. his ruck work is actually seriously under rated, he makes a contest and it may be teaching him how to throw his body around a bit more.

I like the boy.

we need him to injure opposition players like pyke and mumford do

you noticed that too? They did seem to drop the knee when going to ground, or crash in with the knee when going into a pack.

ditto. He's been on the improve the last 5 weeks. Slow but steady improvement. Good to see.
