Game #50 – Round 16, 1992 vs Adelaide at Waverley Park (4/7/1992)

One of our best, kicking 4.0 from 11k, 5hb in 87-point win over the Crows.

Granty brought up his 50th game in style, combining superbly in the forward line with Chocco Royal and Danny Del-Re.

Game #89 – Round 14, 1994 vs Fitzroy at Western Oval (25/6/1994)

BOG
, kicking 6.4 from 18k, 4hb in 104-point win over the Lions, collecting 3 Brownlow votes.

Following the Dogs' big loss to Hawthorn in round 11, Grant then kicked five goals (in the 32-point win over Essendon), six (in the 74-point drubbing of Sydney) and six again against the Roys. Since settling at full-forward alongside resting ruckmen Ilija Grgic or Scott Wynd, his kicking improved, he led well into the corridor, and he was marking strongly and surely. Much of the difference, Turtle said, was in the delivery from his teammates.

Geez, memories. Dunkley Snr playing for the Swans (1:50), Hunter Snr.

Ilja Grgic was 201 cm. Kicked a bag of goals, and was far more mobile than I'd remembered. Wasn't Grant just sensational? And Carey (North Melbourne), just wow.

Dancing Dougie, the old man, in (I think) his last year with us before he left for Fitzroy: he still had it.

EDIT I may have replied to the wrong post. Video of whole of 1994 season is post No 470.

I might have said this before, but just in case I haven't ...

This is an epic thread. Not only a great catalogue of the career of one of our greatest players but also a handy general library of game videos and various other contemporary snippets (indexed by whatever game number CG was playing).

Grant's Year

Granty had a solid season as an 18 year-old. 1991 saw Turtle establish himself as an ever-present member of the senior side. Coach Terry Wheeler moved him up the field to centre half forward, and it was there that Chris Grant truly made a name for himself. He played 15 games, kicking 18.15.

Bulldogs Year

Footscray finished 10th on the ladder with 9 wins, 12 losses, with a percentage of 87.9. Tony Liberatore won the Charles Sutton Medal and Doug Hawkins topped the goal-kicking with 38 goals.

Game #34 – Round 23, 1991 vs Melbourne at Western Oval (25/8/1991)

One of our best, kicking 2.0 from 9k, 8hb in 11-point loss to the Dees.

Coach Terry Wheeler gave credit to the opposition: "If Melbourne are a finals side perhaps the system is a joke. If that's what the final six is encouraging then maybe we are barking up the wrong tree".

Why not catch the train to the footy:

While we're here, let's take a look at the career of Jamie Grant, who also played for Footscray during 1991.

Granty's older brother was drafted by the Bulldogs with the 22nd selection of the 1990 mid-season draft. He played 5 games in 1991, kicking one goal, before two serious ankle and knee injuries led to him hanging up the #44 jumper. Curiously, he was also drafted by Sydney in the 1993 mid-season draft, but didn't make an AFL appearance for them. Jamie went on to become a legend in the Central Highlands Football League, playing for Hepburn.

A good article on the brothers here: https://www.hepburnadvocate.com.au/story/1327374/story-of-the-grant-boys/
