Well I don't think Matera was the best Eagle of the 90's.... so I'll stay right out of the Grant-Roo argument.

But I'm not so sure a players individual sucess can really be measured by the number of Premiership medals they have? S Bond better than N Buckley? Just doesn't add up to me....

But these guys continually forget that Matera played a huge part in getting those medals and was BOG in one of the grand finals kicking 5 goals off a wing...anyway Maude im interested to see who you think was our best Eagle during the 90's?

Thats the whole argument Grant has been underated.:D But Matera deserves all the credit he gets he has had a great carreer even if he is hanging on a bit now.

Grant should be happy with 3 AA

Do you really think he should have been picked ahead of Carey? He is just unlucky he plays in the same posistion as Duck

Who is Materas opposition for a spot on the wing??

Long?? Mainwairing?? Dougie Hawkins on his last legs??

And one more time DAMN STRAIGHT!!

Matera WAS a very good wingman, possibly one of the last of the true wing players. He played in a super-strength line-up, where he could 'chance-his-arm' as much as he wanted, due to performance of his team-mates.

Grant WAS from the moment he stepped onto the park, a focal point, and key player for the Bulldogs. Without meaning any disrespect, Grant was a MUCH MORE important player to the WB, than Matera was to WC.

Furthermore, Grant is playing arguably the hardest position on the field, and a position that has arguably the greatest modern day player (Carey....over-rated hack in my opinion but that's why I'm over here talking, and others get paid mega-$$$$ to commentate!) basically cementing CHF All-Aus.

So firstly, you shouldn't compare All-Aus representations, as Grant has had much stiffer competition at CHF, than Matera has had on a wing.

Secondly, you should discount the Brownlow, as Grant would have had less competition (one would think) from team-mates, than Matera would have had from his.

And finally, depending on how they vote (ie 3-2-1, vs rating every player), you could quite possibly discount Club Best-&-Fairests.

So how do you determine the two?

Who do you think WC would rather have?

Matera, 32? aging wingman, now possibly support player only.

OR

Grant, 28? (no idea, guess), Key Position player, prob still in top 10 Forwards in league, some say one of best CHB's, when given opportunity.

I don't know very many teams that would take Matera.

(Well except for perhaps Carlton...Grant is a bit young and under-developed for them).

We're talking about their performances over their careers not who is the better player today.

I'm stunned

over-rated hack???

I agree with what you are saying about Grant but that is just ridiculous..

you obviously haven't seen any of his games from 1992-2000 and haven't realised the injuries he has had the last two years
