Re: Chris Johnson - weak as piss ...

I can't believe Johnson is getting bagged here. Did anyone actually watch the game?
Bret Thornton is our problem. Three spaso kicks resulted in 3 goals. He kicks the ball with one hand in the air like a ballerina.
He cost us the game against Essendon and now the Swans and he getting away with it scott free.......!!!
Have a look at the replay. 2nd quarter guys.

Also why since Stevens has come back that we have lost 2 games ?
We need Judd, Gibbs, Murphy and Hadley back in the guts.

Now you can't have it both ways. Either Thornton is our problem, or we have lost 2 games since Stevens came back. Make up your mind. Obviously our losses had nothing to do with our inability to put significant scoreboard pressure on both Essendon & Sydney in the first half of both games.

Re: Chris Johnson - weak as piss ...

I just wonder whether he has been thrown to the wolves a little here by being played out of position. Now i'm only going off a little bit of what i know about his past but it seemed at Melbourne he was played as an attacking player and therefore never really developed defensively. Ratten seems to want to play him on a player and try to run off that player but he just hasn't had the teaching to be able to do this.

I remember last year Bailey gave jobs to Johnson before he was injured, the one on Bartel come to mind. He was soooooo lost, had no idea how to position himself and was basically flat out smashed. Send him to the 2's, let him learn the ropes of being a DEFENDER and see if he can push his claim for a spot. If you are being ask to defender you need to be able to defender, while Johnson has very very good disposal his position really doesn't suit his strengths.

If Ratten continues to play him, play him on the wing. There he can use his attacking skills while not having a major defensive responsibility, if he isn't used there then i think he needs to be sent to the 2's because defensively he is not up to scratch.

Re: Chris Johnson - weak as piss ...

Fail to see the cliché relevancy. You might want to concentrate on packing the woollies for your upcoming eternal winter. Gotta be a ski-lodge cliche in there somewhere you think?
Is this where I post a picture of a crook and make some link to judd? I'd rather just re inforce that Steve Browne should be in your side instead of Chris Johnson.

Actually this is where you decide you are in a no-win situation on another team's board, are light on for rights, and should rethink whether you want to be constructive and respectful of Carlton, its players and its posters, in order to stay put and perhaps receive respectful responses.

If I had the ability to post pictures there would be a big bullseye in the post. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

That's the only conclusion one can come up with, 4 games into the season, esp following CJ's 'Mardi Gras' performance against the Swans ...

I know I'm an 'overtly negative' poster at times, but shit on a stick, I am convinced Johnson's lack of courage and attack on the ball, putting his body on the line etc, today cost us at least 4 goals agasinst Sydney, which in the final wash-up, proved fatal ...
And his disposal skills left a lot to be desired as well .

He has got to go surely into the VFL next week for the Bullants, that performance today from CJ was sub-standard, and frankly I think we would have had a better chance of winning today if Carlos was in the side, instead of this down hill skier ...

I'm starting to see why Dean Bailey had a go at him last year at the Dees honestly ...

This is bulldust. Chris Johnson is a good footballer that has not even played 50 AFL games yet. This bloke will be a key member of our backline in the next Carlton premiership. You mark my words.

I bet Bagpipes made just as many errors during his first 50 AFL games. Bagpipes (when fully fit) is a better footballer than Johnson at the moment but Johnson will get better and will be just as important to our backline.

Had 3 or 4 shocking kicks, and then came off early - the one negative I found about this was that Ratts didnt take him off...the signs were there, so bring him off, let him compose himself, and then get out there and put it behind him.

Not a big deal, but yeah not good for his confidence to be left out there, continously making mistakes.

When he is over his injury, he'll come back through the 2's, and if he plays seniors again it'll be because he has earned it - cant argue with that.

His injury has forced him out. Be interesting who we bring back in. I mean Bannister never turned the ball over as badly as Johnson.

Maybe he'll tighten up after his injury clears.

Johnson's fall from early season grace has coincided with Jordan Russell's rise in form. I am happy for Johnson to be the new fall guy for a while.

I too was VERY suprised that he wasn't dragged after the first couple of indescretions but he was atrocious today.

At least the injury probably gives Ratts the chance to get him out of the team and then bury him in the VFL for the rest of the season (I hope!).

Not bagging him just for the need to have a target ODN just thought he was ordinary and the Ants seem to have a few who could be worth a look at. Happy to give him more time to find a groove but we should have been spanked by the Dogs with those errors. Luckily they did not take advantage of them!

Not a requirement but an inevitability. He's not as Carltonised as the rest yet, so the reflex protective gene hasn't activated at the moment.

Edit: Not my whipping boy by the way, just those that need one.

Meh...quad injury saves the MC tapping him on the shoulder.

Out: Johnson
In: Grigg, Browne, Hadley, Bannister, Yarran or Robinson.

I think we'll soldier on without him.

Apparently Johnno has an injured quad with his kicking leg and could be out for 3-4 weeks. Not making excuses for him but this could have perhaps been part of the reason for his woeful kicking in the first term.
