Roast Chris Johnson

Was the only "low-light" of the game today, and really needs a spell in the Ants. The perfect replacement is Steven Browne - plays the same position, and is much more reliable with his kicking.

Yep. Tried to do too much at times and other times looked lazy. Twice he kicked of one step and resulted in turnovers. Not good enough.

Browne mightn't have the penetration in his kicking and I doubt he'd be as technically skilled but his decision making is very solid.

Had 3 or 4 shocking kicks, and then came off early - the one negative I found about this was that Ratts didnt take him off...the signs were there, so bring him off, let him compose himself, and then get out there and put it behind him.

Not a big deal, but yeah not good for his confidence to be left out there, continously making mistakes.

When he is over his injury, he'll come back through the 2's, and if he plays seniors again it'll be because he has earned it - cant argue with that.

I was surprised that Ratts didn't take him off either but at least now we know why his kicking was so off.

Triple M said on the way home that he has strained his quad which is probably a 3 to 4 week injury.

Who comes in for him? Grigg if fit.

send johnson back to melbourne, the guy is completely ****ing useless.

i've seen people on these forums praising his "beautiful" left foot... hahahhaha... he is a complete spud.

Oh geez he was shocking. I reckon he had about 5 dud kicks, all in the first quarter.
Everytime he'd get the ball I'd cover my eyes and say that I hope he doesn't turn it over. Only to open my eyes to the groans of the crowd.

And did you see him drop his head when he finally disposed of it cleanly and the crowd yelled "hooray".

He either went into the game carrying an injury or he strained his quad early in the piece today.

Pretty dissapointing for a bloke who we took for his kicking ability. If he had a problem coming into the game then why wasn't Browne put instead. Definitley needs to go to the 2s to get his confidence back up.

obviously not quite up to scratch but i'm happy to give him some time to improve. i'd feel worse if i knew there was no-one else to pick next week.
either he improves or perhaps our very own david spriggs? known more for his looks, a hit with the ladies (or commentators), then disappears to football oblivion.

far out he was awful today
saw at least 4 times where he kicked it to an unmarked bulldogs player!!!
only reason we werent behind at quarter time was because the dogs couldnt capatilize on johnson handing them the ball

Johnson's fall from early season grace has coincided with Jordan Russell's rise in form. I am happy for Johnson to be the new fall guy for a while.

So it's official, Johnson is shit?

Hate to say we told you so lol.
You guys are a good team now, and you've got plenty of depth for his position now. He was depth at Melbourne, and that's all he should be at Carlton too. You're better off without him in your 22.

The way he was kicking and the fact he strained his quad in the 2nd term, tells me he must have had an issue with it from the start. no way is he that bad of a kick.

That's the thinking that I am going with but if that's the case why was he picked?

Also suggested that a Robert Murphy turnover to Chris Johnson was a strategy to get the ball back.

In amongst those 4 clangers, Johnson actually did spot up a couple of our own players with beautiful kicks and took a contested grab before getting injured. It wasn't all bad but people only remember the glaring stuff.

What I find funny here is that we're having a rant about one of our new players and a few opposition supporters who have seen a lot more of him than we have come in and make some pretty sound and reasonable posts.
Then some of us turn on them and turn it all into Bay 13.
Not that great an effort, IMHO.

Correct.

It seems to me that some people are just going to vent on someone no matter how we are going.......and given the form of the usual whipping boys (Houlihan, Russell) then Johnson is the clear target.

How can anyone have watched his disposal in the first four rounds......then watched the weekend and not thought......geez.....is something wrong with him? Then sure enough he comes off with a quad.......well blow me down with a feather!

Some questioned his attack on the footy last week, but failed to give me examples. From what I saw yesterday his contested work was o.k., not brilliant, but o.k.

FFS people, smile, we won.........he will be a very good player, but clearly needs to work on some aspects of his game (surprising really......most people are "perfect" footballers by his age )

He has had some poor kicks in previous games. Had a shocking turnover against Essendon and another last week if memory serves correct. These aren't just turnovers, they are shockers.

Look he's a lovely kicker of the ball, but in the heat of the game you also need a cool head and good decision making skills.

He doesn't take the opposition on and run as well as many of our other players, and I think he struggles with decision making down back.

I think that is half his problem.

And he is not the best pure defender going around.

Look he's trying hard but there's a few question marks on him, anyone can see that.

Re: Chris Johnson - weak as piss ...

I can't believe Johnson is getting bagged here. Did anyone actually watch the game?
Bret Thornton is our problem. Three spaso kicks resulted in 3 goals. He kicks the ball with one hand in the air like a ballerina.
He cost us the game against Essendon and now the Swans and he getting away with it scott free.......!!!

you can add Houlihan to this thread!!

I honestly do not know what games you two are watching. Thorntons attack and rebound has been fantastic all year and Hoops has been close to BOG a few times.

Poor form.

I'm usually pretty forgiving of mistakes, and loathe to criticize a Carlton player, but its pretty hard not to remember the glaring stuff. He had something like 5 kicks for 4 turnovers in a quarter of footy IIRC. Had me honestly wondering if he was color blind the number of times he kicked it straight to the opposition.

I was almost relieved when he went off with a minor injury.

Right....so he gets singled out ahead of Gibbs, Thornton, Murphy, Waite, Wiggins, Simpson......I could go on.

Watch the games much?

I have seen a number of times that this defender is kicking inside 50 lace out to forwards. If he attacked any more he'd be bagged for being "unaccountable".

I think that is half his problem.

And he is not the best pure defender going around.
Who said he was?
Neither are Waite, Scotland or Bower.
Look he's trying hard but there's a few question marks on him, anyone can see that.

But did you see this?

My point is, you can go through most players in most games and make a case for why they are crap.

I didn't see the "Sack Judd" thread when HIS man kicked 3 goals in a low scoring game last week.
Same goes for Thornton the week before vs Dons.

No.....we will single out the guy who injured the quad on his kicking leg for making some kicking errors, when all can see he is normally a lovely kick of the pill.

Why? Because he is the new kid on the block. Easy target.:thumbsd:
