it wasn't about moving there because he thought they were a premiership chance, it was because he liked the idea of helping rebuild a club rather than arriving at a ready-made one (i guess it balances out the whole mercenary thing?).

anyway, you never know i guess. he's still contracted so clubs would have to pay out the nose even more, or be refused trade by carlton. regardless i'm sure he was a happier man in the middle of the year though.

It is a good point. None of those eagles players are a shadow of their former selves since they were split up. Maybe Cousins has just come to the end which is fair enough given his age, but Kerr is half the player he was (injury a factor) and Judd is not far behind (maybe injury a factor as well). It begs the question how much of their reputations were due to the structures and teams they played in and how much is just pure ablilty?

Chris Judd is a uperstar no doubtr but the OP picked today to sing his praises.

I have to be honest and say Judds impact on todays match was not that great. His touches were always harried and he paid no respect to Kieren Jack who ran off him freely and was involved in setting up several shots on goal (or kicking them himself).

Its funny how many Colingwood supporters pot Chris Judd, I can remember when he was tossing up between moving to Carlton or Collingwood how many of the supporters were j**king off dreaming how he would look in a Collingwood jumper and how many premierships they would win, just like they did when they thought they would get J Brown, and remember Collingwood offered him $1 million + too.

Judd is still an elite midfielder, no question, he just needs more of the Carlton midfield to carry their share of the load, just like he had at WC from Cousins, Kerr, and to a less extent Fletcher and Embley.

Judd would not be being dragged under at Collingwood.

How is Judd being dragged under?

Two best and fairest, 2 All-Australian, and well on his way to another this year. Had his second-best Brownlow result last year, too, which says a fair bit.

The main thing that has changed at Carlton is he has changed the way he plays. Without Cousins, Kerr, etc around him, and without a good ruckman, he tends to chase the ball a lot more at stoppages. As a result, his tackles are up, he gets a lot more contested football, and a lot more hand-balls. It makes him easier to tag, because you know where he's going - straight to the ball - and can just wait until he gets it and wrap him up.

At West Coast, he play a lot more as a receiver. As others have mentioned, West Coast would block for him, and instead of running to the contest, he'd run towards goal and get the handball from Kerr or Cousins, then break the pack and set up play going forward.

His style of game at West Coast was more flashy, and arguably more damaging. He had more than 100 disposals more in 2009 than in his Brownlow year, and a much higher % of handballs. He is also kicking less goals now. Interestingly, when Brock Mclean was playing well early in the year, and Carlton were in good form as a team (the matches against Geelong and St Kilda), Judd played that outside role a lot more, and looked every bit the same player he was at the Eagles. In recent weeks, as we've fallen away, he's started chasing the packs a bit more, culminating in todays effort, where he looked almost desperate after quarter time, and could barely get a clear possession - he was in a frenzy at times, just firing handballs at will, an

I could probarly win a B&F at Carlton all i would have to do is out perform Murphy 60% of games and id be set.

What your saying is because Judd no longer has elite midfielders and ruckmen around him he has to go win his own footy?

Don't get me wrong i still firmly believe Judd is on par with the best in the comp (Ablett) even you Carlton supporters have to admit he isn't get the job done.

May not have been his greatest game yesterday, but there must be about 19 other Carlton players you'd bag before you started in on Judd. At least he looked like he cared.

tbh i think his "decline" since leaving wc has been hugely overstated

he may have lost a little explosion and isn' t quite as penetrating with his disposal, but other than that, the cause of his inferior performances at carlton is because he plays alongside a bunch of absolute ******** squibs like gibbs, murphy and simpson who give him nothing

compare this to his wc days, when he had cousins taking taggers, kerr helping him with the inside work and jones, stenglein etc blocking for him at stoppages, he had heaps of space to work with, which he just doesn't have at carlton.

he just doesn't have the opportunities to use his his main strengths, which are his acceleration and evasiveness

there is a reason carlton went after mclean, judd needs support

What I find annoying is how every time Carlton win it's on the back of Judd but whenever they lose it's all down to the young fellas like Gibbs, Murphy & Simpson not supporting him or protecting him. Why should these younger blokes be protecting Judd? Shouldn't they be the ones being protected by a stronger bodied player such as Judd? Look at McLean, he was a young bloke dishing it out to older blokes at Melbourne like Yze, Bruce, Green & Johnstone & now his body is stuffed. Judd should be doing more to get the younger guys into the game, not the other way round.

A really fantastic player who can break games and has a well balanced inside and outside game.

He's got two points where he can improve in my eyes, which may be stupid points.

He sometimes tries too much and thinks it's up to him and he has to do it all. Now this may very well be the case, but watching your captain bypass an open player to hit the goals can fiddle down the playing list.

He appears to do little 'dirty' things when getting beat by his tag, ala dropping a knee, elbow etc into the player. I don't think this is good for him personally, as all it does it let the tag know he's on top and takes his mind away from winning the ball, also I'd much rather see him break his tag, hit up a lead, then stare at his tag witht he you can't stop me eyes.

Keep in mind I think he's a star, a genuine gun who has to push it up hill a lot at times, but there two things he can do in a neutrals point of view.
