He sets new standards. Usually you look at new draftees with their maybe..5 possies for the game (schuback etc) and be happy with his efforts (well maybe not schuback, but you know what i mean) and say this kid has a lot to work with.

chris knights gets 35 possies. there is something golden here. maybe he is worth that top 10 pick many thought he would be before he sustained his knee injury prior to be drafted.

From watching a fair bit of SANFL footy this year, both live and on the Roger Smelly, I predict Knights, Adam Thompson and to a lesser extent Maric will be very, very good footballers. I also have a strong feeling John Hinge could turn into another rookie success.

i havent seen a real lot of him this year due to my own footy commitments but from what i have seen he is a real talent, yes his disposal lets him down at times but that can be worked on. The one thing that has really impressed me with him is that he is not a front runner, even when the eagles lost this year he was still in their best players, its easy for these high quality kids to come over and play well in winning teams, but to do it when they lose are under a lot of pressure it shows real class if you ask me.

After seeing him twice in 2003, I predicted he would go top 15. But in 2004 he developed knee tendonitis because of a huge growth spurt (180cm to 185cm) and his performances suffered as a result.

To still get him at no.56 is a great result. I'm not putting the mockers on him though. :p

This bloke is a real steal. I have watched him, admittingly on TV, at least 4 times this year and he has impressed me each time. Forget all the analysis such as "hurt factor" and such BS. The kid can play footy. Simple as that. Over time he will improve and I see him as a young Simon Goodwin right now. To me, we fans seem to be spend far too much time over crap, the questions should be can he firstly get the ball and then can he do it on a consistent basis? I am tired of drafting athletes and trying to teach them how to play football. Most of the kids that get drafted need at least 12 months to make an impact unless you are a ilk of a Judd. Let play and enjoy before wanting the world out of them.

Watts is another matter entirely.

Now there is a player with super clean hands in close. His kick to hanball ratio needs to lift a bit BUT the boy is a genuine footballer. Has the smarts and hands in close are superb IMHO. VERY VERY clean with his possesions.

Knights is still young and becuase he wasnt taken very high in the draft whereas Watts was he doesnt seem as arrogant.

Thomspon is a little beauty, although I thought Knights beat him quite convincingly when they played on each other earlier in the year. ;)

Fair call with the Campbell-Harvey hurt factor.

I am sure we would be happy but I still think he can be more damaging :)

I think you're going a bit overboard with the whole 'hurt factor' thing. It's a completely nebulous, subjective assessment that doesn't really carry any weight. If he regularly pumps the ball into the forward line or hits targets, that's what you want.

I must admit though, I was a little concerned when he said how much he loves life etc etc, I was waiting for him to break into "Kumbaya my lord, kumbaya...........".

He seems like a GENUINELY down to earth, level headed, and most refreshing of all, modest young guy.
Plays like Wayne Campbell, sings like Glen Campbell

He got a bit of the footy yesterday but its becoming a bit of a bug bear of mine. He doesn't hurt the opposition with his possesions enough. He needs to improve his hurt factor if he wants to become a gun AFL midfielder. At the moment he plays the Wayne Campbell type of footy. He gets a lot of it but doesn't really hurt the opposition with his possesions. This is something he needs to improve on over the summer.

Still a good player though.
Is this a Ben Cousins comparison?

Possession is good but can be overrated ... I would prefer to see a forward get 5 possessions and kick 4.1 rather than hand off 5 handballs. If your possessions dont advance the play or at least go to someone who will advance it then yes you dont hurt the opposition. How many times do we say '' I dont mind Benco getting the ball he wont hurt you''

Not a Ben Cousins comparison. Ben is a great player but he gets a fair few of his possiesions by running next to a man who is preparing to kick over the mark and taking that suck off handball to build up his stats. Knights actually goes in and gets the footy more often than not and he doesn't come up behind a man to receive that cheap possesion like Cousins does.

My sentiments exactly. If he isnt tackled after taking the ball off of someone else, when was the last time you saw Cousins get up off the ground.

This Nights kiddie is something different. Good in and under player, reads the ball, and passes 8/10 directly to a team mate. For someone so young and inexperienced, as long as he stays sound and here, we have something we will all be very pleased with in the long run. Not going to compare him with anyone as I think that is unfair on the lad.

Just let him keep on keeping on. Go Boogy.

Knights will get even more of the ball when he plays for a team that can move it on quickly and accuratley. He had lead three or four times in the GF before his hapless team mates could spot him.

He is more of an outside link man than an inside player in my view.

He struggles to move the ball off quickly by hand in pack situations, especially when caught on his right side. His tackling and goal kicking also need work

Having said all that he will be a very good player. SHowing what he has in his first season in SANFL has been terrific. Should improve with a full preseason under his belt for next year and should play 5-12 games of AFL.

He's #21 not #33.

Yeah Knights kicked his backside BUT I still rate Thomson VERY VERY highly. I think he will develop into a beaty.
I hope not, we don't need any washed up B grade actors in the team, although his contacts with the ladeeez could be useful and Port had a washed up B grade actor as captain initially.......Would we get Warren Beatty with pick 17?

You seem to describe our #33 whereas Boody is #21. Jus thought you might had confused the two thats all. with your assessment of him being an outside receiver.

Not at all - as an Eagles supporter I have seen a fair bit of him.

I am not saying he cant' get the hard ball where necessary but just that his ability to find space and break lines with run and deep kicking lend themselves to more of a link role.

There was a debate as to whether he was more of an inside or outside midfielder on a thread a couple of weeks ago. Just adding my views on that really.

You need both types of players in a club, but he has the skills to be either. Certainly not saying he is soft.
