Add Swift add we're set. Really hope Sheppard comes along as well.

Masten Selwood Swift can do the grunt work winning the contested ball to feed Shuey Gaff and Sheppard who can use their pace and Elite kicks to find Kennedy Lecras and Darling..good times ahead.

Sheppard will be fine. Has all the fundamental skills, just needs more strength and conditioning....He is evidently a very driven kid, as all our kids seem to be. The Cats are huge on 'character' when drafting, and it seems we are too.

On Masten, I'm not too proud to say he has displayed a level of talent/output I didn't know he was capable of, so he's proved me wrong once. If he keeps it up and does this consistently he'll prove me and others wrong once and for all. The last two weeks he's been devastating by hand and foot and seems to be covering the ground without much effort....So he's finally fit. Keep it up Chris.:thumbsu:

Some people are hard to please.

He's got his body right, gets the opportunity and delivers two weeks in a row. Yes he needs to back it up and do it more regularly, no one will argue with that, but he has shown that he is very much a AFL standard quality midfielder.

Many on here have argued he's a crab, not best 22 etc, but given the last couple of weeks (and others) it's hard to argue that he can't play at this level.

Have defended him for so long that it has become a running joke with family and other eagle supporters I know, i.e. the MASTO MASTO MAN! chant I continue to use, even though it has become ever so more tongue in cheek these days.

I had lost alot of hope this year as I have continually stated that it was a do or die year and up until the last couple of weeks, he had shown almost nothing.

The last two weeks I have noticed a massive increase in his intensity and attack on the ball which I think has been due to his so called 'wake up call' which I was stating earlier in the year he needed and if he didn't respond to it would be curtains. His mark going back with the flight on Saturday night was a line in the sand moment for him.

I still need to see him perform this weekend against a quality outfit, but you can certainly not take anything away from his past two performances.

He also seems to have found a new confidence in his goal kicking which has never been there, and will really add an extra dimension to his game and our midfield.

MASTO MASTO MAN, I WANNA BE A MASTO MAN!

Masten might! be ready for finals pounding

Chris Masten, a player with many tricks but so far in his career just too light to play like Priddis in the midfield, (a player so difficult to knock off the ball in the rough and tumble of packs)

is noticeably getting stronger this last month or so, due to age and weights.

Collingwoods pressure will be gigantic compared to what happened last Saturday against Adelaide.

Kerr of course can handle pretty much anything in the AFL THAT GETS DISHED at him.

So we really do need Kerr, but if we don't have him can Masten cop the battering. From what i saw on Saturday he might or is on the verge.
Not Kerr level yet.
He will be a very strong player in 2 or 3 years time when he really fills out.

Its great to see that he has balanced his mo with a beard.
bOTH were lighter on the weekend providing him with the balance needed
to hold his footing for his quick hand passes.

Gees are we not lucky that Thomas is out.

Balances out the possible loss of Kerr

Re: Masten might! be ready for finals pounding

Is Masten the player you mentioned during training reports to be Judd like from stoppages?

God, listen to all those defending him. What are you basing everything you guys are saying on, two games? I bet you had the shits with him just like me (happy to admit it) less than 2 months ago. Yes hes had couple of good games in a row but it doesn't mean he'll produce them in the finals or go on with it next year. At the moment he needs to get more runs on the board before you can make comments such as the one I've just quoted.

Also I will disclaim this by saying I love seeing whipping boys become good players. I was one of the first on board Nicoski's rise the last couple of seasons and gave Ebert a bath but am happy to see him improve. Unlike some on here, when I make a misjudgement about a player I am happy to retract, so long as I see enough evidence of change.

You were a ringleader in a past Masten thread spouting baseless assumptions about Masten's character.

Haven't you been paying attention and reading through threads on this board? I haven't solely based my opinion regarding Masten on his past 2 games.

I didn't have the shits with him. I've been patient with him because I think he can deliver on his potential. I've seen enough of Masten in previous seasons to see that his last 2 games were no fluke.

Masten has delivered more good than just in the past 2 games, it's just that you've forgotten, or conveniently dismissed, the good he has produced thus far in his career. You're not the only one in that regard.

Given your previous views on Masten, especially the one's in a former Masten thread, I'm in no rush to take your opinions on him into consideration.

When I saw finals pounding I thought something else, my apologies

Genius, as usual. :thumbsu:

Lets hope he continues this form.

He needs to make up for another 48 ordinary games

Yeh that stretch of games where he averaged 27 possessions, including a 38 possession game in 09 is gonna take some making up for.

Unfortunately for Masten he is going to have a bad game sooner or later (all players do) and everyone will be on his back again. Let's just hope some supporters can open their eyes and recognize that he has the talent required.

Just re-watched some of the game v Adelaide and geez, his hands were so clean and quick...Craig Lambert/Adrian Fletcher like on Saturday. Loved his quick and tireless breaks away from stoppages that night too.

Seeing the player most rated so highly back in 2007 now....Has to maintain it.

From memory, Masten hasn't really dropped off in form after having a couple of big matches has he? He seems to get injured and then struggles once he comes back in.

Definitely a confidence player - needs to develop the ability to maintain a level of form even when he's playing at his worst (if you get my drift).

His best is very good, handballs to him are like kicks to Hurn.

I have a lot of faith in Masten. I don't think we'll see him have too many more no-impact matches.

While fans of every other club wouldn't hesitate in answering "Masten is shit" when asked to rate him, most of us have kept the faith.

Now he's a bit more mature and understands the work needed, (the old lady taught at his school and said he was always pretty arrogant), I have no doubt he will flourish. Has a lot of weapons and his disposal is a billion times better than Palmers'.

The best thing we could have done was make him play WAFL every week for a while and really make him realise he had to earn his spot and any reputation / where he was taken in the draft means nothing.:thumbsu:

A bit of Steve Johnson tough love. Hopefully it has similar results.

The clock is ticking down quickly to Masten crabbing it up again, I am in no doubt about his ability but his problems are inside his head sadly.
Sometimes I question whether you even support the eagles.
All you seem to do is come in and rubbish players or coaching staff that you have predisposed and unwavering contempt for.
