give him a chance, and he fires. I think for the most part, he has been starved of opportunities this year. Left rotting in the WAFL. He is superior to Priddis. The sooner that spud is out of our team, the better we are.

WTF WTF WTF

Priddis is better than JUDD.

Early in the game when it was really tough in the clinches and bodies were crashing Priddis was amazing and gradually softened up the opposition.

Masten was getting knocked around but when the game opened up Masten with his tricks was effective.

If you dont have guys like Priddis bludgeoning away early in the game Eagles will find themselves many goals behind.

YOU SEE Woosha knows this and thats why Priddis is in and still keeps on going after a whole season of bludgeoning.

phew..what a relief to see Masten deliver..!!?
the pressure was building on him..certainly on BF.
it was great to see what he's capable of..and should have added confidence now..augers well for our depth.
a big nod to the Hamster as well! :thumbsu:

I had the exact same reaction. Would be a big relief if he stayed fit and played well... it'd be like drafting a new player.

77% DE

Alright isn't it?

Elite numbers if they actually had meaning.

The problem is people like make absolute calls on a player because they presume to know something about the great game of football. Mastodon is still no sure thing to deliver, but he is capable of playing a competitive brand of football to a standard expected of a player of his talent. Just needs the game time, hard work and general opportunity to apply himself to his trade.

As some have said previously: Masten needs to be played as an IM, not a HFF. Getting games means nothing if he's not utilized correctly. Masten showed what he can do when he's a starting games and being used mostly as a midfielder. While it's only one game, it's no coincidence that with Kerr out Masten plays a good game due to having more opportunity to do what he's best at. The same happened in 2009 when both Kerr and Priddis were out and Masten had a 9-10 game streak where he averaged 27 possessions per game and was killing it. It just shows that Masten needs a prominent position in WC's midfield to get the best from him, not a HFF/FP or 5th-6th mid who's on rotation or being the sub.

Play more like that and he'll get his opportunities in the midfield.

He spent most of the first half forward (some midfield time) but moved into the midfield in the 3rd. You'll notice from there he strarted pretty much every centre bounce in the middle. One of his great strengths is that running ability and endurance, and it's not a bad way to use him as he will still be going when a lot of others are tiring.

Looks like he's got over that last knee injury and may be coming into form at the perfect time of the season. If Kerr is out we must play him on ball and even when Kerr is playing we need to get him into the action more.

I was seriously happy with masto's effort last night. With Kerr basically playing every other game, thought the effort of masten to get in there and bullock into contests was great to see. I've given the bloke so much curry over the years but last night I couldn't really have said anything bad about him. Ok delivery, great indurance (obviously), and most of all, earnt his possessions and hopefully a spot in the side for finals. Good work masto. :thumbsu:

Last night showed how good he can be when allowed to play his true position. I know the weather helped him a bit but I still see a bright future if developed correctly, which he has not IMO. If he can't crack the starting midfield it would be best to move him on instead of trying to turn him into something he is not.

Who will he replace in the finals? He is an inside mid so for team balance he has to replace one of Kerr, Shuey, Priddis or S Selwood. I can't see any of those players being dropped for Masten. Maybe he will be the sub in the finals that will come into the game in the third/fourth qtr and be thrown in the guts???

well no becasue to have a successful team, midfielders need to be able to cover more than one spot. unless you are one of the best in that one thing. and he aint. he is 4th as inside midfielder in the team.

if he doesnt learn other positions then move him on. we cant have kerr, priddis, masten and shuey play as rovers at same time. so if he wants to move up for a position in that inside role, needs to show this more often. but woosha isnt going to move aside some other players who are playing well just because masten cant play in other roles.

Yeah, well, exactly as you said, if Kerr is at full fitness then Masten has to be sub I reckon.

With Kerrs body we might not have him in for some of the finals, so Masten IM looks like a less of a laughable replacement as it once was. As long as he can keep up the good work that is.

Agreed with most of that. It will be in the best interest of all parties to go their separate ways at the end of the year.

for sure..i cant recall the previous games in which he played well as mid etc..hence a reserved opinion on him..but after last nite, i'm converted, and would like to see him around the mid (although he looks like he's warming up to his hff position)..he's always first into a scrap too ive noticed..

Yet Priddis gets excuses only being able to play the Inside Mid Role only, no flexibility? You can probably now understand the Priddis bashing and the Eagles87 & I continual belief that other midfielders need to be the starting mids rather than Priddis. Last night was final vindication of that for all and sundry to see. Cheers

DIGRACEFULL COMMENT

disgraceful disgraceful disgraceful.

F--K ME D--D,
WATCH THE FIRST HALF AGAIN.

WHOSE BODY DID NOT FLINCH when it was really hot.

Mr Priddis.
You cannot knock him over and his tackling stops the opposition from getting away.

If you cannot bring an opposition player down they clear and score.

Priddis stops goal after goal by bludgeoning the opposition,

Masten is still not strong enough for that at the moment

He is good when the game is a bit more open and he has all the tricks.

If he was starting midfielder they would pick him up like a rag doll and throw him in a final, in the opening quater.

In the packs early he was our least combatative.

PRIDDIS was the best player on the ground.

He is there when the savagery in on.

Stop coming out with fairwether stuff.

In 2 years time when just natural strength comes in Masten will be a handfull.

Rosa is a case of a slimmer player getting stronger with age and then able to not get knocked off the ball .

If you get knocked off the ball easily you get smashed by 100 points.

ASK GOLD COAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep because no team has ever had a midfielder go down with injury. Even if currently he is not starting four, you've also got on field mid rotations and bench rotations as well as you might have heard of a thing called depth?

And Kerr's not going to be around forever. Masten just needs to get way stronger through the core/hips so he can stand up in tackles and improve his contested ball winning and then i think he'll be a good Kerr replacement.

Couple more pre-seasons in the gym/pilates/whatnot

Fantastic effort from Masto last night. Hit the possession tally and the scoreboard. Benefited from a start in the 21 and not having Kerr.

Keep this up and he could play some finals :thumbsu:
