Toast Chris Masten

You could make arguments for the entire midfield to be dropped bar Rosa at this point. None of our mids have the quality to play a lone hand in a badly performing midfield, they all rely on the rest of the team to be firing

Players like JK aren't kicking the bags you'd like because the Mastens aren't delivering him the pill
JK and friends need to start taking more marks inside 50. I've only ever seen JK mark down the ground this year when we're coming out of defense. We've had more shots on goal than our opponents in the last 3 weeks only to loose by a small margin. If we'd won all those games we wouldn't be in full meltdown over our midfield again.

Forward also need good supply as well. Bombing it long and high hoping at best it's a 1 on 1 contest doesn't help them. That's also not taking account if you have other players up making it a bigger contest and harder to mark as well.

Forwards need some good supply and hit on the tit from a lead lace out which isn't happening. Part of this problem IMO stems not only from bad kicking, but from also lacking another smaller player instead of the extra tall.

Sounds like a kids show :D

Problem with Masten, and majority of our mids, is they need to all perform right at the top of their abilities, fro most of the season for us to finish higher up on the ladder. 2012 Masten, selwood & gaff were all in pretty goos form for most of the year. Once they drop a little, their deficiencies are exposed and we all see them for what they are, small, slow, poor users of the ball and generally b grade players at best.

Because our midfield once pressing back extremely hard into our defensive half and defensive 50 (much more than we did under Worsfold) doesn't seem to be capable of holding onto the ball and/or transitioning quickly to offense and getting into space. Perhaps Masten is part of the problem, as he's certainly not quick or perhaps he's not and the issue lies with our primary ball winners. Which Masten isn't and won't ever be.

I'm not comfortable with any mid who can't win a bit of the footy.

Complicate the game as much as you like, but sooner or later they will all find themselves surrounded.

The good ones find a way out.

We have some of the sookiest supporters going around I have to say.

After a game it's fine, emotional time and what not but just in general, everyone is trade bait at the eagles.

We've lost 4 games in a row.

What you you rather us do?

Embrace mediocrity like a warm hug, Freo style?

We finished 13th last year!
We lost to Port who have beaten Geelong and will likely be top 4
Freo, who were the premiership favourites this year and grand finalists last year
Carlton - should have won that game
Geelong - undermanned, against geelong in geelong, was always going to be ugly as all hell, not that I expected it to be that bad.

The problems lie in underperforming talls, stemming slightly from poor midfield delivery and number of chances offered. I don't expect people to be happy, I'm not happy myself but we're not a top 4 team at the moment and have been competitive in all but one game.

Calling for a player who's had a bad week to be traded is the sookiest reaction ever. Hell i am not that big a fan of Priddis but the way he is randomly bought into every eagles thread is also pathetic, there's a whole thread dedicated to his position in the side and some people just rubbish every thread with the same statements.

No common sense allowed!

You're being too rational!

I can cop the Geelong loss. Not the 0 goals after QT though
We kicked ourselves out of the Port, Carlton & Freo games when in positions to go on & win
Carlton & Freo were both understrength, and
Carlton is just a terrible footy team

So losing in these scenarios makes us all rage, particularly in the context of some foolish/stubborn decisions by the match committee.

The "mood" of this board says it all. Not happy Jan.

The forwards missing goals from set shots on reasonable angles as has happened the last few weeks are not the midfields fault guys. All of our top forwards have had plenty of shots within reasonable distance and angles and still missed.
As for the topic of this thread, Masto looked good last year and in pre season this year, but has struggled in the season proper. Not sure what is wrong but he certainly didnt get enough of it on the weekend. At times he couldnt even get a handpass away to a teammate a few feet from him. He looks out of sorts or injured. Hope he can get himself sorted because we need everyone at thier best.

I totally disagree with that.

Yesterday, I saw a tonne of times when he wasn't chasing or didn't apply pressure to his opponents.

He's lazy and like I said when the game is up in the air, he's no where to be seen and goes missing in BIG games.

Definite trade bait, we've got enough of his type on the list.
That is bullshit. He was our best midfielder last year and many tipped him to place very highly in the b&f. He was the one that stood up when we were shit.

Memory of a Goldfish.

Not the midfield you say. We're generating enough scoring shots, we're middle of the road for inside 50s and for total scoring shots. Darling and Kennedy are both equal 14th in total goals, but they're equal 21st for total marks inside 50, averaging just 1.7 marks inside 50 per game.

Slow but handball happy side that doesn't generate overlap through the middle of the ground, can't create the free man. Defensively we've been good with a strong team defense across the ground certainly better than last year. But we lack offensive ability through the middle as well as efficient and creative group of smalls across the half forward line.

I dont now if anyone else has picked up on this but lately Ive noticed the same mids zone off in contests & Not tackle the ball carrier .
Its totally bizare, Ive seen masten, gaff , shuey run to an opponet running away from the contest rather than tackle the palyer coming towards them-with the ball. Its been happening for the last 4-5 games & I dont know why or what its supoosed to achieve but is it a new way to combat our ineffective midfield ?
Anyone pick this up?

If you think he was the one who stood up last year, god help the West Coast Eagles
