Sounds like Maney wants to play on next year. With him relocating back to Perth, if Freo wanted him to re-join them, we can trade him over to Freo.
His form has been very good the past few years, even this year, so he could be worth a late pick or two....

Nah he still wants to get a kick but it's pretty clear from what he said that the rigours of AFL football aren't for him anymore.

He'll be a solid player for a WAFL club for the next year or two before going back to local footy to coach I reckon.

I'm aq tad surprised as I think he's playing the beast footy of his career. but i suspect he may have an assistant coaching gig lined up somewhere.
He's playing well, but he cops a beating and has had some soft-tissue niggles, plus wants to move back west. I wouldn't be surprised at all of Longmuir has offered him a role there in some capacity.

Agreed. I just pegged him as one that would have played until the club gave him a tap on the shoulder - and I'd be surprised if they did.

Hmm I thought so too initially but maybe not - seems like he's a bit more of a family-first man than your average footballer and has clearly already been working towards a career post-football, so I'm not at all surprised that he wants to pack it in at AFL level and move back West especially for his kids' sake.

I do think he's likely to have a development/assistant coaching position lined up. If so, it's a bloody good move for his future, also with the recent concussions he's had. Good on him.

Sad day for Collingwood really. I think Mayney suffered more crap from Pies supporters than any other player I can remember. Yet he came out week after week and showed all of his team mates what commitment really means. Chris has a giant heart and we don't have too many that could match him in that department. He played his role very well.
A lot of people attacked the the man when he was playing the role he was given. Attack the role if you like, but not the man, the man who gave everything he had.
Good luck in the future. The rumor is that you will take up a coaching position with Fremantle. I wish it was with us.

Freo have an affiliated WAFL side do they ?? What’s the bet he surfaces there…

It's possible obviously for him to go back to Peel Thunder (or even Perth where he was drafted from).

He's still within the age bracket where a playing coach role might also work at a lower level (eg. his junior club Belmont?), if he wants to take a step back from the AFL for a bit.

Could also decide to just shift over to being a full time teacher and have a kick in local footy.

Lots of options open to him as he's been preparing for life after AFL football for a while now from the looks of things.

When I think of Chris Mayne I wlll always remember him selling candy in the 1st quarter of the 2018 Prelim and getting the chills - this is our night, I thought. In that one glorious instant he made Phil Krakouer look like the galloping gasometer.
Well done Chris. The club couldn't ask for more.

Get around him, this man left nothing behind for our club.
All the love goes to you Mayne Man.
Please tell me he's not out of the team? I was worried when he copped a high knock he might have had concussion. Wouldn't have been a fitting way to go out

Hopefully not. Concussion is a recurring problem for Mayne.

Once again the club (Wright) has nailed it in not renewing Maynes contract, unfortunately a year or two too late in my opinion!

Honestly he shouldn't have been picked up at all and deffo not on the money he got, anyone else but him and Wells and I reckon we win 2018. That's not to take away from his effort and dedication but he's not the icing on a premiership pie.

If all players had the care, effort and dedcation of Mayne we'd be a lot better off. Not overly skilled but desperate, played his role to a tee and gave a sh1t. Was still cursing in last game when he'd make a mistake. One of a few who could hold their head up high at the club overall, not just among players.
