Technically Stephen Williams has 3 premierships, he took over the Magpies during 1996 while Jack worked on the Power. So he won flags in 96,98,99 and was runner up in 97.

As a Port supporter, I'm not convinced of his tactical prowess tho. FWIW I think you'd be better served getting someone fresh out of the system ... as we will have to as well.

However a major reason why he hasn't reappeared as an assistant AFL coach, is he hasn't been prepared to give up his job with SAMFS for a very time limited part time coaching role. That's a lot of super to give up![/QUOTE

Being as objective as I can - if someone can offer the right set of skills for a role, why not? On the other hand, there's only so many seats in the coaching box and you'd have to make a bloody good case to convince me that Stirling or Angove are offering something that an experienced football person can't. Charlie Walsh on the bench as motivator is one thing - a basketball or netball coach in the box is another.

they surely can't be serious about using a netball or a women's basketball coach? pat mickan did a little bit with agility training under robert shaw, but despite all the glowing reports, it was hard to take it seriously. what can marg angove or jan stirling bring to a football team. it's bad enough seeing charlie walsh on the boundary line. he's obviously great with their rehab or alternative training, but getting in footballers ears in the middle of football game? who's kidding who?
didn't fremantle use rick charlesworth for a while? if that didn't work, marg and jan and charlie aren't going to.
