I'd let Cotchin focus on becoming an elite midfielder before throwing the captaincy on his shoulders
i agree he would have to have the personality for the extra responsibility to be beneficial for him, some thrive on it some dont.
Probs should have mentioned that in my post.:thumbsu:

He was interviewed very briefly in an obligatory interview that a club captain cannot avoid. Simply said that he was getting impatient in regards to finals.

I want to know that these players are unsatisfied without playing finals and not content to retire financially secure and able to visit the clubs bubble in the future where legends are blokes who have hardly tasted finals.

I see Jack Riewoldt on the footy show and think to myself, Play a final first and then sit next to Jonothan Brown on the footy show. Newman is a shrinking violet next to him. In Reiwoldt I see a bloke more likely to make it about himself.

Cant help what the media focus on. If they want that answer then there are questions where you cannot avoid that type of answer.

BTW - If or when we make finals, I hope that someone else is ready to take over as he is not the man who stands up in these games. I think people are confusing the fact that he does not really impart himself on big games with his off field handling of captaincy. The first I find flat and uninspiring, the second is impeccable.

Sums it up for me... :thumbsu: ...

Newman needs to fire up the team on field when things aren't going our way. I don't doubt his courage and commitment to the ball but he seems to be timid. I would like to see him give directions and fire up the boys verbally he seems to do neither. Time to step down next year.

newman is not the problem, he isnt that judd type player, so of course he is not going to standout as much.

ill agree his performances of late have not been up to scratch, but he is almost always one of our better players.
