Fair indication that Jaques is higher up the list.

You don't have to.

But it helps.

It does help but the fact of the matter is Jacques after his tonnes to start the year has been in batting slump as of late where as Rogers is the leading run scorer this year

Jacques may have a contract, but Rogers is clearly the one in better form at the moment

Before this season Rogers had been quite. From memory the season before that he was very good but had a couple lesser seasons (low 40's) where Jaques killed it.

I spose It'll come down to current form vs buckloads of recent runs, build up over the last few seasons.

Jaques would be next in line, then Rogers IMO.
You'd think Langer -> Jaques, Hayden -> Rogers.

2006-2007
PA Jacques 5 10 0 355 163 35.50
CJL Rogers 5 9 0 799 279 88.77

2005-06 Pura Cup
PA Jaques 9 15 0 678 137 45.20
CJL Rogers 10 20 1 794 161 41.78

2004-05 Pura Cup
PA Jaques 11 19 1 1191 240* 66.16
CJL Rogers 8 15 0 645 153 43.00

2003-04 Pura Cup (the one you 'somehow' forgot to include Bentleigh ;) )
PA Jacques 10 20 0 636 146 31.80
CJL Rogers 8 16 1 864 142 57.60

Combined over the last 5 years
PA Jacques 2860 Runs @ 45.396
CJL Rogers 3102 runs @ 53.482

Now my maths may not be the best, but i do beleive averaging 8 more runs per innings and having scored nearly 300 more runs would make Rogers the more consistent player here? :D

Going through the records theres only been one season Jacques significantly killed it over Rogers (04/05), and one other season he averaged more (but scored less runs) with Rogers winning the rest of the battles including i think more importantly the overall figures as well

They've been saying that about jacques for about 2 years.

Just out of interest, can someone show how both have performed against international opponents in tour matches?

The two matches that Jaques hit 100's in arent even recognised, one was a chairmans 11 and the other one was some crappy 14 a side net session.

What? Against:

Code:
Bowling O M R W
Lee 13 3 78 1 (7nb)
Gillespie 20 7 60 0 (2nb)
Kasprowicz 20 4 57 0
MacGill 21.4 1 122 4
Clarke 5 0 36 0

Mate i hope you are kidding when you imply that he was facing a crap attack.
Lee - 219 test wickets
Gillespie - 259 test wickets
Kasprowicz - 113 test wickets, 944 first class wickets
MacGill - 198 test wickets, 716 first class wickets

Not bad hey.

2 of them are world class, and deserved to play for australia, you could almost say they both do now, Lee and McGrath, gillespe and kasprowicz are both duds..

Jaques faced these blokes in the chairmans game:
JM Anderson
A Flintoff
SI Mahmood
MS Panesar
AF Giles
PD Collingwood

And these guys in the net session:
MJ Hoggard
SJ Harmison
JM Anderson
A Flintoff
MS Panesar
AF Giles

Im willing to say that the net session was a good knock against a pretty good bowling line up, the Chairmans game meant nothing.

Western Australia coach says Jaques is no certainty

'Rogers deserves to replace Langer'

Chris Rogers should be the favourite to take over from Justin Langer at the top of the Australia batting line-up, according to the pair's coach at Western Australia, Wayne Clark. Phil Jaques has been mentioned by most commentators as the leading candidate but he has been significantly outplayed by Rogers in the Pura Cup this season.

Rogers, 29, is by far the leading run-scorer in the competition, with 799 runs at an average of 88.77. His efforts this year included a season-opening 279 against Victoria. Jaques began 2006-07 well, making 163 in his first game but he has passed fifty only twice since then and averages 35.50.

"If you look at Chris' record in the last three years for WA, there is not too many in Australia that can compare to that," Clark told AAP. "Jaques is very good, he has made some big scores and was the flavour of the month there for a while.

"He was going well into the first Test. But since then, he hasn't really performed. I think Chris' consistency, and the form he has shown ... I think he has got to be the frontrunner for that role. And he is ready for the job."

Jaques, who has played two Tests already, said he was disappointed by his recent efforts. "My record in four-day cricket is pretty good, but this season has probably not been as prolific," Jaques said. "There have been some good performances in there ... against England and a good one first up in the Pura Cup, and I feel I am hitting the ball well."

The selectors have time to choose Langer's successor, though, with Australia unlikely to play any Tests until November.

Just bumping up this thread again, Rogers has now made 909 runs at 90.9 in just 10 innings. Surely he'd be favourite for Langer's position now.

Especially since Jaques is still not making any runs.

Maybe I'm biased being a West Aussie who knows the bloke in question, but he's so clearly the #1 in form batsmen in the Pura Cup, and having made his runs opening the batting (where they'll be looking for a replacement), he has to be at the forefront of any selector's mind.

is consistency a problem for rogers? i remember him having an awesome season and then kinda dying off... i hope he gets the job however

I think that

Chris Rogers has to be the next open if mike hussey does not open

imo this is the order of the openers to replace langer

1. Rogers
2. Jewell
3. Maher
4. Jaques

Arnberger would have been 3rd if he played this year
