Too good guys. I'm genuinely shocked by how much the Eagles have improved this year. To go from ninth last year then lose McKenzie and Brown and start this season so well is pretty impressive. Selwood too.

Where's the improvement come from? Healthier Nic Nat? Kids in general?
Adam Simpson.

Some of my co-workers - a mix of Freo supporters and people who are natives of other states and support the likes of Adelaide, Essendon, Sydney, etc - have really been bagging out the Eagles lately. Flat track bullies, haven't beaten anybody, etc. They say that Port isn't a good win because they're not in the top 8 - conveniently omitting that the Eagles pummeled GWS, who ARE in the top 8.

My reactions to this - first off, it's good to be hated again, because that means that we're relevant again. And second, I can't wait to hear the excuses after this one. Let's face it, if the Eagles had kicked straight in the first half, this would have been a 100 point hiding of a team that's probably middle of the ladder in talent. Destroying the likes of Geelong and GWS should count for something - and it does, that being our percentage, which is tops in AFL.

And as for the Geelong supporter who asked why the Eagles are so much better this year - really it has to be an improvement in skills and structure, because most of the players are still around from last year, and I wouldn't say that the Eagles are an especially young team. I will say that the overall use of the ball seems much improved from two years ago, as does the speed at which they play. And a friend of mine is close with a former Eagle who said that their training was pretty rubbish in 2013, which was a really poor year. This isn't really a criticism directed at Woosha, but I think that things had just gotten stale under him and the players were not really responding to the coaches' motivation. This year the skills and fitness seem miles better than two years ago, and the senior coach probably deserves the bulk of the credit for that.

Also one of the best / most respected teams in the past decade.

Beat a Sydney, Hawthorn, Fremantle, the respect will come. It has to be earned back. We have all three teams at home again this season, big chance of winning one of them.

Watched the Chris Scott presser and he was very even and measured. Didn't say anything wrong and was focussing on the Cats, as you'd expect, not the eagles.
Adam Simpson is developing a dry, subtle comedic style that I like. "He had a glimpse of City Beach there for a while."
Was very impressed with how we dismantled Geelong, didn't think that would happen for a while yet, although the Cats are in the stage of the Eagles from the late 90's, where they can compete and bully teams that they have a mental hold over, but genuine teams trouble them.
Duggan, as expected because of his physicality, I love this kid.... :D Nelson ain't bad either and Sheppard 2.0 is a real revelation, as is Wellingham, although there was no doubt he could play footy like this. Also like the fact that Butler, no I wasn't convinced he could, has wound back the clock and found his composure again. Great stuff all round.:thumbsu:
