With his Brad Scott being appointed at the Kangaroos may be a chance that Chris could leave us to join his brother?

Who knows??

Maybe he wouldn't want to play second fiddle to his twin; maybe he wants to see things through at Freo; maybe he wants his next gig to be his own senior position...

Or Maybe he will want to work with his bro.

Who knows??

Yeh, I'm hoping Chris stays around a bit longer. I don't rate Laidley at all. He didn't do much as a senior coach, so why bother hiring him as an assistant?

I thought Laidley did quite well with more limited resources than most. Certainly wouldn't be so dismissive of his skills....

I'm not saying he was worst coach in the AFL, just that I can't see his value. What do you see as his biggest skill? Would you prefer to keep Chris Scott or entice Laidley?

Apparently Laidley is a great tactical coach. He niche is he finds and studies weaknesses in the opposition and trys to exploit them.. It seems most current coaches respect this. He is always trying different things and looking at things from different angles.... I think he would be valuable ..

Laidley is pretty good in terms of Analysis and game day coaching so if he was to come as an Assistant that would be awesome IMO.

Probably won't happen though.

It will be interesting how many changes there would be to our Coaching Panel come next season;

S/C: Mark Harvey
A/C: Brad Scott
A/C: Dean Wallis
A/C: Todd Curley
A/C: Barry Mitchell
Player Development: Steve Malaxos
Skills Coach: Michael Prior

What changes do you think might happen?

wouldnt surprise me to see mitchell get the arse, he was brought over to implement hawthorns game plan and failed miserably, would also expect malaxos to cop it, im still struggling to see what the hell that guy has done to earn a regular pay packet for all these years

Get rid of Mitchell, Malaxos and Prior.

- Get the best possible skills coach and pay what they want.
- Try and lure Paul Salmon over to coach ruck and to coach Sandi how to play FF and take a mark
- anyone to replace Malaxos (weagle f*&%)

I thought I read/heard somewhere that we were so chuffed with our win over Port that everyone down to the bootstudder had been reappointed for next season. Maybe it was just a dream. You would think that the bootstudder would get the "A" though given how often our players seem to fall over.

You mean Chris Scott, I'm sure? (Yeh, I know... I'm being a bit pedantic)

I don't think I'd make any coaching changes. I'd wait and see how we go next year (when there's no PP). This year was always about rebuilding (giving young guys a go and seeing what existing players should be delisted etc.) If our skills and game plan aren't up to scratch, then i'd reassess our coaching dept.

I think Barry Mitchell and Dean Wallis need to be removed.

We really should have chased Hardwick instead of Mitchell last year. Damien Hardwick is an ideal replacement should the club lose faith in Harvey. Adam Simpson is looking for a job in footy, wonder if it would be worth chasing him

Not sure if it's true, but Ch10 news mentioned he was seen visiting Guy McKenna up on the Gold Coast recently.

I agree Nightfury. Laidley is meant to be an excellent tactician, this is exactly what we need. Tactics are certainly not our strong point at hte moment. Harvey there to motivate and be in the lead. Laidley to run the tactical side of our team.

It would be nice to win some match ups for a change:rolleyes:

So you want to tread water?

I think we should be constantly trying to improve, not resting on a coaching formula that has proven unsuccessful.
Malaxos has needed to go for years. He is our development coach, and our development has been shit for years. The guys reports on players are a running gag, he never says anything negative.
I agree that Malaxos is deadwood, but I think he doesn't say anything negatice because the playing reports are public and none of the coaching staff say anything highly critical about the players in public. Also his playing reports have improved, but yeah, time for some fresh blood in player development.

Ok, but who would you get to replace Malaxos and Prior?

Barry Mitchell has only just joined the club this year. Why would he implement game strategy now when he's only an assistant coach during a rebuild phrase? Also, he's a midfield coach with Todd Curley, so how can you tell if he's been successful or not?

First of all Sandi's taps still don't go to our advantage as reguarly as they should. This has been a midfield issue for too long now and I thought the inclusion of Mitchel might have solved this problem.

Some of our midfield movement before last weekend was starting to look good, but on the weekend we were picked apart and there didn't seem to be any plan B.

As for replacements, I'm not so sure. Not really that up to speed on who are the better coaches going around. The Paul Salmon idea sounds a good one though.

I was under the impression that our clearance work had improved significantly this year, which is impressive (if correct) given the young group. Can anyone verify our clearance standings this year v last year?
Another pre season and Palmer back next year, we should certainly improve further

4th in clearances won this year, if I recall reading somewhere last week correctly. If true, Mitchell stays.

earlier in the year i was a harsh critic of prior as skills coach, but in imo there hase been a marked improvemant in our disposal efficiency in the second half of the year'
wether or not the stats back this up is another point
my observation only
