Still too gutless to move on our vets. Kelly in this week rather than Gore or persevering with GHS is short sighted unnecessary and stupid.
Problem for Gore is that he is coming off a 5 day break - I would think its unlikely we would see him make his debut on a Friday night, coming off a 5 day break and being asked to step into a midfield missing experienced players like Duncan & Caddy.

While there is some frustration at the GHS being omitted for Kelly, my guess (as I said on the match preview thread) is that they may be looking at guys like Kelly & Bartel as experience through midfield to help cover the loss of Duncan & Caddy who generally run through the middle. IF we had a spot in the finals locked away we may well have seen GHS keep his spot to get another match under his belt. But with our final 2 games being must wins (along with other results going our way), sometimes experienced heads have to be called upon to step up and lead the way; and make amends for screwing around at the death last week.

As much as his promotion has been advocated a few times this year, if Gore was a serious chance he wouldn't have played last Sunday. Although it makes it rather humourous that they rest especially Smedts and Stokes, then don't bother naming either. Maybe one will get a late call up yet.

If that is true, this is the ultimate test of whether Kelly and Bartel can play as midfielders for a full game anymore.

Totally agree regarding Gore; highly doubtful anyone who played last Sunday would play tomorrow night, unless exceptional circumstances.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Smedts as a late inclusion - maybe Gregson to be rested.

Add Cockatoo to that list and I'll be happy! Without Caddy and Duncan I think the Pies bat way deeper in the midfield than us, despite Menzel's hopefully triumphant return, I think we could be in real trouble.
Yeah Cocky shouldn't be the sub either. Gregson seems the logical sub to me. Famous last words I know, but I think that we should have this game under control for most of the night culminating in a pretty easy win by the end of it. I'll be coming for you if you're wrong. It's only fair that you do the same to me if I'm wrong, yeah?

Kelly in helps in the middle.
Agree about the Pies MF and the trouble.

On his present record, another 3 years. Get use to it.
his present record reads something like this . . .

2011 = Premiership
2012 = 6th & early exit losing to Fremantle
2013 = 2nd & 1 win out of 3 finals
2014 = 3rd & straight sets exit
2015 = Misses finals
2016 = ???

I think you may need to readjust your perspective on the current job he's doing (based on present record).

I hate the way we play, whenever we win I'm never quite sure how it happens. We are always outnumbered around the ball and if by chance we win the contest you would think we'd have players around due to the fact it was 5 on 2 around the ball but we kick it out to two on ones. It has to be how we set up, we seem to be outnumbered everywhere.. When we lose, regardless of who we play, we make them look like the best team in the comp. I hate it so much.

No Caddy. No Duncan. So what does Chris decide to do? He brings in James Kelly who ends up playing as a loose man in defence and we drop Horlin-Smith.
We essentially had one less midfielder tonight so we move Lang or Cockatoo into the square at times throughout the night.

Did the coach seriously believe those guys could adjust immediately against the likes of Pendlebury, Greenwood, Adams or Sidebottom?
Unless we are deliberating tanking by playing blokes out of position, the coaches only saving grace will be the inclusion of star players in the off season (Dangerfield, Selwood, Henderson).

Incredibly worried about our future now :(

I actually believe coaches when they say they have limited control over how a match plays out on game day by making moves and instructing players to do different things.

But tonight Scott failed. He either failed to tell his players to stop handballing forward to stationary players or the players didn't listen and did it anyway. Either is a failure.

Concerned about decisions made by Scott and the MC regarding team selection for tonight. More concerned that the senior players took no responsibility out on the field to make minor, but smart adjustments - it's ok to play tempo footy when the other team is in control, no need to handball at every opportunity and continuing to do so was frustrating to watch.

We play the softest brand of footy under this coach. Need someone that will give us a hard edge and a better gameplan.

Time to stop being spoiled brats and face reality, we aren't as good as what we think. We're a normal AFL club that is not above any other.

The problem is we're going to get the doogooders coming in telling us how good we're since we've been up for so long and 3 flags blah blah blah..

Save you breath because I don't care...

Chris got us a flag and I thank him for that, but he is not the man to get us another flag.

Time to go.
That may be true, but how about considering the FACT that there is not a coach in Australia who is going to get this list a flag in this current decade, at least.
We have truly been spoiled.
I recall clearly in the 60's, we had a brilliant team led by Polly Farmer, and we got ONE flag only. They are exceedingly hard to win now in an 18 team comp, and we just got 3 in 5 years.
The deficiencies we have now are not the fault of the coach, we simply do not have the cattle any more, and we are still playing our ageing champs out of respect for them, and our young up and comers are exhausted.
Menzel our bog tonight- apart from Kelly, the only player who had last week off. Menzel alone next year will be a magnificent recruit, IF....
We have had some good wins and some bad losses, but if we finish with 10 wins, 10 losses, 2 draws, that'll be 2 wins more than I predicted at the start of this year.
How does Scott's coaching explain the lassitude that Harry Taylor appears to have, the drop in form of Selwood, the decline of Bartel, Kelly, SJ, Boris, the poor field kicking of our whole group tonight?
It was so predictable that our deficient MF would struggle tonight, that Buckley would get his Pies up tonight after a week of derision and last week's form.
But here we are again crying for some out there mythical coach to do the impossible.

And of course, nobody gives any credit to Collingwood who showed us up tonight in all our areas of weakness.

Of course not the ship has sailed, We've now slid too far and the list has way too many holes. But if you think I'm saying this based on tonight then you're way off the mark. I've been saying it since 2013 when we gave up a 52 point lead to Lions.

Our list is imbalanced yes we all know that. I've said this transition is way too slow and honestly, I would prefer us to bottom out and get some top picks, so in that sense I'm fine with where we finished. Now we get a top 10 pick.

My issue is the way we play our footy, it's the soft non-contested, mine as well not rock up to a stoppage, handball, handball handball footy that we play.

-The way we always bomb it in to our forward line on Tom's head
-The way we don't play man to man and keep a zone (especially when teams don't turn it over, we get exposed)
-Our poor kicking in from a behind
-Playing a 4 man tall defense every game and we get cut to shreds by small forwards.
- Guys that just stand around, where is our spread?
- Running 2 ways, Everyone has a go at Motlop for not running both ways but quite a few of our players don't.
- Poor execution missing targets after targets
- Overuse of the ball
- Because we overuse the ball, we try and break a tackle and get pinged with it
- Why is our forward-line always clogged with 5000000 players? Unless we get the fast break from our backline we seem to be real slow sometimes getting it in there.

Also think there is something up with our mental game. Why are we so flat the last 2 weeks when we where trying to playing for finals?

Those are things that the Coach can handle.
