Hey now, his window is still open based off that post. 2016 was mentioned as well.
When some on here suggested that a pass mark for 2016 was at least top 4, you and the crazy one are saying top 8 will do, far cry from flag so the window will be slammed shut by what you 2 are saying.

Clearly Cook did not have expectations for us to make the finals this year.
There was never an expectation for us to make top 4 in 2015.
First of all Cook did have higher expectations prior to the season your quote comes from a month in to the 2015 season when we were clearly struggling and everyone knew we wouldn't be playing finals. Here's his quote again from late 2011 just in case you forgot...''But we also wanted someone who could demonstrate he could lead the rebuilding of the list to make a big impression again by 2015-2016."
Cook is expecting top 4 next year which seems to fall in nicely with the above quote just like prior to this season he would've at least been expecting to make the 8 given that he expected to make a big impression by 2015/16.
Also I never said Cook expected us to make the top 4 this year but I'm certain he would've been expecting prior to the season starting that we would've at least made the 8.

Yep, common sense apparently.

'If we don't win the flag in 2015 we will in 2016'. Direct quote.

and no doubt the coach which start to come under a lot more scrutiny now. He's had a fairly care free tenure as far as the media and supporters have been concerned but one can sense a little unrest beginning to brew.
Yep agree he has had zero scrutiny. Presumably because of premiership in first year, and that people expected a decline in Geelong's fortunes.
But we have a good team on paper now, and in terms of calibre and experience-we are getting there. So if we don't improve, yep, he deserves to be seriously critiqued. He needs also to have learnt from his mistakes-think he has in terms of being too smart by half off-field, now needs to recognize his mistakes/limitations on field.
I never liked him as a player, but got over that in 2011!

Interesting that they're tempering their expectations, one could conclude they don't have the confidence in the coach that they they like to portray they do on here.

Excuse me? I don't recall saying "top 8 will do". I fully expect finals next year and actually winning a final being a welcome change. I'm not going to put a number on where the minimum finishing position is inside the 8 yet (I haven't voted on our ladder predictions thread yet either). That's bloody hard to predict in November. Keen to see how we play in the NAB matches.

Personally if flag is our aim going down this path then I think 2017 might be a better chance at achieving that, certainly not 2016 or bust. By 2017 we should be able to expect declines in Hawthorn, Freo and North based off their age profiles. Will Sydney still be up at the top echelon? Will Richmond still be in contention? who knows. GWS and GC probably won't be flag contenders by then, finalists quite realistically though. Opens up a little window.

have a read of the thread I made in 2008 and compare it too my thread from this year .

In 2015 I said we can win the premiership and it was based on a number of conditions such as a good run with injuries, players like caddy, duncan and Guthrie becoming A grade players and our older players maintaining their form. None of these happened.

In 2008 I expected nothing less than a premiership the only exemption being a really terrible run with injuries

My belief is that Caddy,Duncan,Guthrie and Blicavs will all become A grade midfielders at some point and when it happens we will go close to winning a premiership . I hade hoped this would be 2015 but this was not the case .In my view it will either happen this year or next year .

Selwood,Dangerfield,Blicavs,Duncan,Caddy and Guthrie plus a good support crew is a premiership midfield. We just need the last 4 to take their game to another level.

I think a pass mark is top 4 .However if we make the top 6 by winning a final and we can go into 2017 as a strong contender for the premiership than this would be acceptable .Many clubs have won a premiership after being knocked out in the semis the year .

They're? Don't know why I'm being lumped with GC when I've said winning a final is the bare minimum. Tempering expectations. Pfft!

I haven't even refined mine yet, get back to me after NAB challenge.

Oh more muckraking about the coach. Confidence in the coach wavering. Pfft! he'll see out his contract.

When they talked about 2015/2016 they would usually say something likes its as much about 2011 as it is 2015/2016 .They are saying its equally about the present and the future.

He would of expected to make the 8 , that would be the aim but he is realistic enough to understand you cant keep making the finals every year no matter how good your coach is.

I jumped the gun , I will admit that , but I still am certain we are on a good thing.

The 4 keys are Caddy,Duncan,Blicavs and Guthire .If they step up than along with Danger and sellwood we have a awesome midfield . Lets hope they step up this year.

No the direct quote is 'to make a big impression again by 2015/16.' What does big impression mean to you? 10th on the ladder?

Nope it was a reference to Scots appointment being as much about the future as it was the present . 2015 just sounds better than 2017.

Don't forget Brian Cook signed Scott up at last year and said he had already proven himself to be an outstanding coach.

Notice how everyone that has had anything to do with Scott at Geelong or Freo rates his coaching ability ?

How would you make them accountable?
Depends on what goes wrong and who is responsible.

Scott will not be sacked this year , even if we miss the finals .It usualy takes 3 seasons out of the finals to for a coach to be sacked, plus scott already has credits in the bank.

Among tough competition, that's close to the (appropriately) craziest thing I've heard. Based on what? I guess the examples of Voss and Hird are pretty tough to argue against.
So because Voss and Hird couldn't coach that means Ling cant coach ?

Ling has been a part time coach with Geelong , had excellent on field leadership skills, great work ethic , great people skills ,great communication skills and is a player who got he most out of himself without being blessed with lots of natural ability.

I don't think Geelong will appoint a coach who hasn't played senior AFL football.

If we missed finals next year Scott would have to be sacked because there'd be outrage by our powerbrokers plus we'd struggle to get enough members in 2017 if he wasn't.
