I think winning a final would be most peoples pass mark but I agree with you in the sense that we seem to be recruiting for a flag and nothing less.
I see the chances of a flag with this group being at their highest within the next two years, so if the team were to make the top six, win a final, and start to look threatening, especially with players looking to gel more as the season progresses and clear improvements to key areas of concern being made, then I would consider that satisfactory for 2016, because I would think that the team should then be able to go the next step in 2017 after Danger, Smith, Selwood, and Henderson have had a chance to settle into the side and adapt to the gameplan and the way their team mates play. Given the recruiting, I think top six with at least one finals win should be the pass mark next year and then top 4 and a really serious push for a flag in 2017. If that doesn't transpire, I would consider this off-season to be a failed roll of the dice that will have severe repercussions down the line.

Certainly achievable but if top 4 is not achieved but finals is he will be under no pressure for failing to make top 4. Making finals is an improvement on 2015 and I do think 2017 is looking to be our better chance of success, 3-4 clubs may hang on this year but should drop after that. Like North, Freo, Hawthorn, Sydney etc.

So you're saying if Scott fails to meet Cooks expectations two years in a row at a club that constantly espouses that it's aim is to be a successful organisation that Scott will be completely safe? You really are a blind Scott fanatic aren't you?

They have earmarked what is a very subjective measurement.

winning a final is my expectation but regardless he will not be sacked in 2016. Scott will see out his contract at the GFC. Just seems "sacked" and "Scott" appear in nearly every post you make in this thread. Obsession is borderline ;)
Pressure of expectation has been raised substantially. The transition rhetoric holds no weight now. Whether the list is good enough or not, the long-term costs of the recruits are far too great for it to fail or for Scott to be able to sell a vision of a successful side in 3-4 years. He may last until the end of 2017, but if the side fails to be in serious contention for a flag in that time, he should be gone.

I agree and have said all along that winning a final would be a pass mark but Cook sees it differently and who knows how he'd react to a disappointing season.

He will not get sacked next year, simply, we should get 12-13 wins without even leaving 2nd gear. He's safe for 2016 barring pretty much a bottom half finish.

I agree, expectations have been enhanced, the bookies odds are reflective of that.

Don't think internal pressure has been raised by as much a margin though, I think even if we flounder massively in 2016 (don't suspect we will) that he'll get 2017 as I don't see this path we've gone down as being 2016 or bust and his contract expires in 2017. There will be presumably quite high pressure to succeed in that case then. All just speculation the minute though.

Agree, not that I said it would though...
Whether the list is good enough or not,
time will tell but I'm excited to find out, bring on 2016!

Possibly, on the whole we did quite well with the prices paid to land our recruits. Henderson a little high but not bad enough to be outraged.

The difference between where we finished and where 5th and 6th finished isn't so great in terms of points so I'm confident we will improve in 2016 but I'm going to wait until the NAB games before trying to gauge how much exactly we shall improve. Double up games the key as they're not exactly that hard, need to try and maximise that. Whether we can improve by 5 or so more wins to get top 4 (Sydney had 16 this year) is still unknown but I suspect Smith and Stanley will be quite important for us as it simply cost us games of footy not having a recognised genuine ruckman available.

Why was there a complete lack of intensity, work rate and pressure shown against IMO inferior teams Melbourne, St.Kilda and Collingwood in particular?

We had everything to play for in these games, which included Enright's 300th and making the finals, yet these were our three most disappointing performances of the year.

Was it due to injuries? Our playing list just not good enough? The coaches not performing? Or a bit of everything?

Despite our good offseason, these types of performances still make me question how we'll go next year because those areas must be addressed regardless of who we bring in.

Your gambling blinds you Darth Stanious.
I actually agree with a lot of your posts but not on this one. I'm a gambling man and it's a safe bet to say he wouldn't get the sack in 2016 even if we were to get the wooden spoon.

Different story at the end of 2017 if we have two shit years in a row.

You don't call finishing tenth this year shit? I wouldn't bet on Scott getting the boot either at the end of next year but I do think it's a significantly greater chance than some on here would and it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

Anything bar top 8 would be a shit year but not a chance in hell he'd be sacked next year. The new players didn't gel would be in play before getting sacked.

With all the wonderful players we supposedly have? Absolutely I would.
