Stanley sort of disappeared after 2Q last Friday. I was wondering if he was injured, as he limped off the field at one stage (came back though)
What ever the issue was, it didn't seem to stop him from being put in the ruck, he attended around twice as many centre bounces after half time then he did before.

That was my recollection - losses are on the rare side once you win the qualifying final - most times the winners of the qualifiers end up playing each other in the big dance IIRC
With the week off before finals this year the QF winners are going into the prelim having played 1 game in 3 weeks, will be very interesting to see what effect that has.

Gawn, Goldstein, Naitanui, Mumford, Tippett, Martin, Kreuzer, McEvoy, Hickey... yeah ok you have a point. Still, at least we're actually competitive in the ruck for once.
If anything Stanley has been our number one ruck this year.

Round 8 is the only round that they both played where Smith attended more centre bounces then Stanley.
Centre bounces attended ave (excluding round 6 that Stanley missed)
Smith 11.7
Stanley 16.6
That's the whole point.
Smith and Stanley both missed lots of footy last year and are sharing the load beautifully. They are both capable of goals as well, and in short bursts can and do dominate ruck contests.
What matter is it who is #1 or 2?

Only matter in plumbing and The Lion King.

Exactly, it's the 3-man combo that counts.

Practically it doesn't matter but it effects peoples opinion on the players. There are two players with very similar output, one is an ordinary number 1 and the 2nd is the best number 2.

The only time it becomes an issue is that when they are both being comprehensively beaten by a single ruckmen. It takes something that is usually a strength and turns it into a weakness. Mumford showed us this in round 2. The question is how many ruckmen out there are capable of a similar feat.

Have to win a final this year. With a healthy list and a few stars added to the mix, winning that first final is going to be Paramount, especially if we finish top four.
Agree with that too. I have some confidence that it'll happen as we are playing the type of footy conducive to winning finals. Just a question of being consistent and maintaining intensity.
And also no injuries!!!

Exceptional circumstance.
A short turnaround AFTER a massive Hawks game where both our rucks extended themselves, at an away venue against a fresh animal busting for the contest.
Has not happened since.
Goldstein and Gawn etc could dominate, but our boys should also improve their fitness and I for one do not have that foreboding feeling in ruck contests this year whilst the remain fit.

Only two and both were practically singlehandedly responsible for their sides' victories last year at Kardinia.

It hasn't happened for a majority of a match but we saw it happen in the 3rd quarter against West Coast, Naitanui cut us to pieces and they got a run on. If it happens there isn't much the MC can do about it other than put extra numbers behind the ball and just wait it out.

He is playing a KF role week after week.
What is his ruck work like?
He doesn't seem lost when giving Jacob's the chop out, having the basketball background does help him.
But I thought we controlled him last Friday night, in fact he tried to do to much and was caught out

Jenkins doesn't worry me one bit.
If he can get 3.2mil over 4 years I'd run like a bandit.

Josh Jenkins might have something to say about that. But I like the way stanley is tracking. If it wasn't for JJ'S 8g vs the dogs last 2 weeks ago I'd have stanley in front.
Rory Lobb too.

FWIW, I like your optimism, but I have Jenkins way in front of Stanley as a forward at the moment. If Stanley came out and bagged five next week I'd be shocked. Thrilled, but shocked.

Unsure to be honest, but as a "second ruck" in a team with a strong senior ruckman you'd expect him to be playing primarily up forward. He is getting his five to ten taps per game, suggesting he's thrown into the ruck at least up forward or to give Jacobs the odd breather. There isn't another one I can think of on Adelaide's list.
