So myself and Nakia are plainly trolling, ha, ha...You've finally lost it. Top 10 in the B&F for a guy playing the same role as Mitchell does at Hawthorn, I wonder where Mitchell would be in Hawthorn's B&F at the moment? He'd be top ten in Brownlow voting at the moment, where would Bartel be? Overrated.
I have yet to see Jimmy play the same role as Mitchell.

Not an intentional knee, corky, gouge, thrown elbow or cheap shot in Jimmy game at all.

Entirely different roles.

But you should keep your eyes on CS in this thread.

Yawn.

Would want to get too far off the CS topic now.

I have an agenda now. Cool. Got told I had a crusade last week. Gathering all kinds of fun words.

But for Jimmy, he's doing ok. Not great, but not horrible. Aint gonna have a team of 22 RD1 picks - unless you are GWS of course. And he's getting put in places of greatest need as a fix all - regardless of his game preferences IMO. Id say he's doing ok.

Go Catters
Well I agree, he's doing just ok, he should be doing better and his performances and influence are being overrated by some on this board.

You'll cop it for making a realistic assessment of Bartel in 2016, the posters who will blindly defend him are still thinking of 2011 Bartel. While he still has good positioning and experience at times, and has improved the contested side of his game this season, he also panic kicks it too much, provides zero speed for rebound, is not accountable enough when manned up in defence, and has no leap so can't really compete in the air anymore.
Drumroll please....

I thought the top 10 call was a bit unrealistic.

I'd have Guthrie, Selwood, Dangerfield, Enright, Taylor, Mackie, Smith, Henderson, Duncan, Hawkins and Motlop all ahead at the moment and that's 11 players off the top of my head.

Not to mention he apparently won the player of the week award despite once again being overlooked in the coaches votes...

Congrats to BlightysCats for his/her contributions to dragging this bleeding beast over 10000 posts.

Well done. Could not have been achieved without you.

Thanks but I'd argue it couldn't have been achieved without Chris Scott's at best questionable coaching and results over the last 24 months.

My wife watches AFL 360 on Mondays nights to watch Chris Scott - the first year she's actually taken much notice of what he's said - and in her own words, 'he looks smug and speaks with arrogance'. I've always thought this to be the case... he has an arrogant demeanor.

Not surprising then that the team plays in much the same manner.

What am I? The Bruce Jenner troll of this board to you? 'His' mate, his.
GFC fans and posters here come in all shapes, sizes and preferences.

I was not wanting to presume or alienate - especially in these PC days.

Carry on.

APPEARING to have an arrogant demeanour, and ACTUALLY being arrogant, don't necessarily go hand in hand.

The only difference I see is that one has played incredibly high quality football for a longer period than the other.
For most of their careers there hasn't been much in it, but from 2012 on Sam has skipped away,I put that down in part to the Clarkson game plan but should in no way take anything away from Mitchell, he's weathered well.

I never said that and you know it.
I said tweets were circulating from journalists that he had nominated North Melbourne after visiting their facilities. This led onto the mainboard where the topic on the trade was being discussed.
I posted you a link to that particular thread.
You have refuted he never nominated North Melbourne. I would prefer to go by what was transpiring at that particular time of his career than your word years later.

So you change your mind after a few hours I see.
Birchall is now fast?

Frawley is not slow at all. He ran down Lewis Jetta on the MCG one time which highlights how quick he is. It was a 100 metre chase too, not some 10 metre chase and last second lunge.
He is an underrated defender because of his foot speed.

Happily disagree with Burgoyne too. You said Birchall was slow, you obviously don't know your footy as well as you think. Burgoyne has wheels. Rarely caught holding the ball. He can go from a 0 to 20 metre dash as well as most.

And again, happily disagree with this rip snorter! :p
Birchial is fast but he dosent have the speed of a motlop , hes not that type of quick . Ottens run down Burgoyne is the 07 GF , Ottens was not quick .

I agree they have a quicker defence than we do but not by much. To be honest ours is much better , its not a case of faster is better .

Geelong of 2007-2011 was a slow side .

I wouldn't say he's a liability myself. I reckon he's been very good this year. A bit overrated as I think people forget just how brilliant he once was so anytime he plays consistent footy at a high level, we rave on about it.
He's just not a good defender is all and if he's down there with Ruggles or Bews out of the side, I think it spells big trouble. We need a lock down defender. Guthrie is excellent but he's just as valuable through midfield.
Murdoch is hopeless so we must stop that experiment. Perhaps Smedts but then again, he looks better forward.

Again, I've said it numerous times but I'd opt for Darcy Lang to play as a lock down defender. He's quick and he loves tackling and pressuring opponents. Would be a handy player down there.
See this obsession with quick defenders is going to do more harm than good .The bottom line is that if the opposition moves the ball often enough with speed and precision into their forward line we are going to lose most of the time .

We need to slow the speed and quality of the way they move the ball up forward which makes speed less redundant and bring height and strength itnt play .

I really think this is intelligent coaching by Scott

You're right that defence is a team effort, in fact forward 50 defence is incredibly important in the modern game and another area where we're slow and woeful, but Bobby is also right about the speed of Hawthorns defence. Anyway I'm not saying every player has to be a speed demon in defence but I reckon you at least need two with reasonable pace where as we currently have zero, unless Guthrie sometimes plays back there.
All we have to do is slow the oppositions ball movement down and they cant kick a winning score .

Pretty fast defence with good disposal, compared to ours

Lonergan --> slow and cant kick
Taylor --> fairly slow, good kick
Henderson --> fairly slow, average kick
Mackie --> fairly slow, very good kick
Bartel --> slow, cant kick
Enright --> fairly slow, average kick
Kolo --> fairly slow, average kick

we might be the best in the comp when the high ball comes in but when our midfield is getting soundly beat and the opposition has time to hit up targets we get smashed, even worse is when they apply a lot of pressure when we try get it out of defence

i'd rather we lost a bit of advantage when the high ball comes and have a better ability to get the ball out of defence easier
When any sides midfield is getting soundly beat and the opposition has time to hit up targets they are likely to lose .
