I think context is important when it comes to the use of the term "Fan Boy".

When people use it to degrade people whose opinion I disagree with it is a valuable tool which reveals their blind faith in the subject in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary..

When it is used to describe people whose opinions I share it is an outrageous ad-hominem attack which proves that the user is losing the argument and is desperately clutching at straws.
Fan boy as a term is a lot more tame than the word troll.

How precious are some of these Scott supporters? Love to compare fan boy or half cat mafia etc. to some of the truly horrendous insults consistently thrown at the anti-Scott crew (disgracefully including by some mods) on here over the journey.

List management problems. A lot of the kids who aren't performing are the ones you wouldn't expect to - very late picks or rookie selections. Some players have been kept on the list for too long when they've done nothing to warrant it, and the club has taken so few high picks into the drafts in the last several years that it's starved the side of having more quality young players to pick from. Again, doesn't matter so much if the side is performing well now when it has the players we've traded the future for playing, but if it's not performing well...
Perfectly said, quite coincidently we've recruited to win the flag in the last two years of Scott's contract.

This year and next at absolute best are our chances, after that we'll fall away drastically and GWS, The Bulldogs, Melbourne, Stkilda, and Collingwood at the very least will be far better than us.
These 2 posters both have attitudes that are shared by unsuccessful clubs , they don't want the players to take responsibility for their performance .

Frank Costa used to say that "stability is a must for on field success" and that "the players must take ultimate responsibility for the sides performance".

Back in 2007 after we lost to North it was not our coach who said enough is enough , it was our players .Do we want to be like Richmond over the past 37 years ? or do we want to be a player oriented club were the players are held responsible for their performance just like back in 2007-2011?

Why would he air what he thought might be the issue anyway usually pretty cryptic in the way he uses he's words, shelters what needs to be to stop overreactions
Yeah he does shelter overreactions like when he said after the West Coast game that the pre-season optimism about our list and it's potential was justified...pretty humble statement designed to stop people overreacting.

There are no Scott fan boys or Scott lovers on this board .Just Geelong football club lovers who realise that its in the best interest of the club to become player oriented and hold our players too account .

You want us to be like Richmond , Stkilda and Melbourne over the past 40 years.

I'd hardly say advocating for the sacking of a coach after 5 years at the club is approaching anything close to Richmond territory of coach turnover.

More of this 'you're disloyal if you question the club' nonsense. I mean from my point of view you are against the club because you don't want to give us a chance at success, by getting rid of Scott, but rather continue our malaise through mediocrity.

There's no need to fear change.

I wonder when Chris Scott leaves the club a one time premiership coach that left us with a huge rebuild ahead of us because he chased personal success in the last 2 years of his contract over what was best for the club long term, whether you'll support him wherever he goes or whatever he does next? I follow the GFC not necessarily one individual within the club who happens to be occupying the title of HC at any particular time.

You don't understand , for us to become an on field powerhouse like we were back in 07-11 we need our players to stand up ,lead the team and take responsibility.

I will repeat after we lost to North in 07 it wasn't the coach but the players who turned things around , that's what we need to happen again .

All you are doing is making excuses for our players poor performances.

Trollolololololol.
Nope I'd say it was a fair comment actually. Bartel is still pretty good. I want him in the side but if he's getting it on the last line we are simply not winning. As opposed to around the middle or half forward where his ability to read play, win contests and intercept is very damaging. Turned the match against Port with nothing that would necessarily go on the stat sheet for example. But it was ALL done in the middle.

Also i base this on nothing other than a gut feel... but something isn't right
Blokes aren't helping each other, heads are down... they look like they don't want to be there

I have no idea what is going on or what is causing it... or if I am even just seeing something that isn't there...
Can all boil down to lack of leadership I commented on in the other thread. Everyone looking to someone else (usually Selwood and or Hawkins) to pull us out of a rough patch and break it open so they can jump back on the skis and all is good in the world again. We lack competitive mongrel and leadership.

Funniest thing would be if there was some revolt (like happened with Sando at Crows). His current backers round here would start slagging him off worse than Ayres.

Adelaide is another good example.

They sack their coach , a new one comes in with a honeymoon ,honeymoon wears off and the cycle gets repeated.

Lets aim for better than that , lets aim for greatness , lets aim to be a player oriented club much like in 2007-2011.

Spot on. Those taking most offence to the term are the most ardent fan boys!

Nope. He's been excellent all season in wins and losses, playing as the 7th defender.

Why do we need a coach then if it's all down to the players? How did Beveridge and Bolton turn their teams around? Was it because one year the players decided they wouldn't play well and the next they decided they would? The head coach has a huge impact on a team as all the new coaches in the last few years have shown, we don't have a game style that will win us finals or a flag.

We certainly have changed our set ups in 2016 but we don't have the contested mindset or value effort enough to institute them and as far as I'm concerned it's because Scott clearly doesn't think such things matter.

Spot on! Just wait for this board come October 2017 when Scott's time is up, we've had zero success over the last 6 seasons, and a massive rebuild and years spent at the bottom lie ahead of us...I wonder where all these fan boys will be then?

Still preaching the same 'nothing is wrong' line.

When a Coach looks down the lens of a camera and says with a straight face "I don't know what's happening in the last two weeks" then there's something seriously wrong with that.

Not sure if you're referring to me (have not got my fan boi club card so unsure of where your classification puts me) but my guess is filling the War thread with more stuff like this...

Updated with the latest nuggets...

When we win

- Simon Lloyd has made a massive difference
- Dangerfield is carrying us
- Anyone could coach this team
- *crickets chirping/tumbleweeds/awkward coughs*

When we lose

- Scott shouldn't have picked Player A over Player B
- No Plan B
- Poor gameday coach
- 'Mission Accomplished'
- Smug and arrogant
- Remember when Scott didn't pick West in that Qualifying final??
- if you don't agree with me you're a "fan boy"
