We've been outplayed by two teams without their best player/s in the last two weeks and were lucky to get the 8 points.
true. our coach agrees with you too. still, better than being outplayed by two teams without their best player/s in the last two weeks and not having the 8 points.

For a bloke who can't coach... He has an imposing record that most other coaches envy.
On a serious note. This thread has kinda gone from some merit to just plain stupid with mere amateurs claiming they know the coaching caper better than those who are professionals. I hop on hear to see if anything of real value has been written from time to time.... and I'm still waiting.

What do you think Chris Scott's best qualities as a coach are and what(if any) areas do you think he needs to improve on?

His best trait bar far is his people/player/management skills.
Which is 80% of a managers job in this modern era of not only football but work/society in general. Or should i say Coach, which really isn't what they actually do anymore.
He along with the coaching staff implement a game plan that.
Number One, suits our playing list.
Number Two, wins us games.
People often say we have NO Plan B or Plan C or we can't beat Team A or Team B.
That is probably a bit of a false perception. All teams have slight alterations to their game plans structures and so forth.
I have always been a great believer in you're only as good as your players. Chris Scott has been at the helm for 6 years with a win percentage of over 72%. Which includes a Premiership after being written off by half the Melbourne scribes. This all came after being smacked out of the 2010 PF by the Pies(Premiers) and losing OUR & the AFL's BEST PLAYER in G.Ablett Jnr. He was by me & many at the club the main instigator in our revitalisation in 2011 to improve to the point we smashed Hawthorn(QF), West Coast(PF) and eventually Collingwood(GF) to raise the Premiership Cup.
After that year we lost 4 All Australians in Ottens-Milburn-Mooney-Ling(2011)
Then again after an indifferent 2012 year we lost Scarlett-Wojo-Byrnes.
He oversaw the transformation and the continuation of the winning culture at Kardinia Park.
All bar some bad decisions and play by a couple of our all time greats in that last quarter vs the Hawks in the Prelim of 2013 we should of been playing off in another GF.
So again after the 2013 season we lost a few more All Time Greats in Joel Corey-Chapman- Hunt-Pods.
So over a period of 3 years we had lost Our best MID in Gary Ablett. Followed by Scarlett(Best FB ever!), Ling, Milburn, Corey, Ottens, Mooney, Chapman, Wojo, Hunt and Pods... HALF our TEAM(7 All Aust.)
So when you look at what he has done, in not only replacing all time great players but bringing through the next generation.
Whilst keeping us winning games at an exceptional rate.
People just don't realise the great job this man has done since the day he walked into Kardina Park.
Sorry for the rant. Just really appreciate a lot of the stuff people don't see behind the scenes.

As for what improvement? I really don't know, maybe bring back Macca to teach some fundamentals to the players. He did wonders for a lot of the Champions of our past era.

Yes...these teams going into games without their best players...how dare they!

Ruining your predictions now on a weekly basis.
Maybe the ALF can either ban us from playing teams without their best players or only allocate 2 points for these 'lucky' wins.

sorry man, ALF couldnt even stop his tv show getting cancelled... he has no power over the leagues fixture, players, or the doling out of premiership points.

Big deal. Good coaches maximise opportunities, and that's what Chris Scott has done masterfully. Last week he decided not to contest rucks in Geelong's forward line. Masterstroke. This week, efficiency and accuracy won the day. Genius

I liked his allusion to playing under Matthews during his presser, we don't get to hear him talk about it very often. I think he took a lot more in during his playing days than people think, and it has helped him become a hell of a coach.

Early days but I'm liking what I see so far from Chris.
Seems more confident with the media but is far less cliché this season - he's both humble and honest in his answers but not giving away too much.

Tactically , well he's taken it straight from this thread :p
> Less talls in defence
> Quicker ball movement
> Better functioning forwardline
> Playing more kids

We are 3-0 but have only hit top gear in bursts. We look to have a steely resolve on the back of awesome on field leadership.
We can get much better and that's exciting ;)

Agreed. Roos made the observation this weekend that Geelong look better when there is 'speed on the game', i.e., when taking on the game and forcing the opposition to play at our speed. Obviously not 'speed' like the kamikaze years of 07-08 - we don't have the cattle for that. It's more a hybrid, where we play a defence first tempo game when stemming the flow, and mix this with a quicker, higher risk, play on approach whenever the opportunity arises. Has looked great when these passages have come together, though improvement could be made, especially with disposal in close when setting up a break. More running types, a quicker defence (Tuohy was a great pick up) and a more mobile forward line are steps in the right direction. I think that S. Selwood will really add something to our inside game and will be valuable when a tag is needed. It seems to me that Scott's been a harsher judge of the team publicly this year. This is fair enough, as the team was very new to each other last season, but should be starting to click now. The issue for me is how much improvement this team has in it and whether it can find the consistency needed to win 3-4 games in September. I doubt that at this point, but I can see development there since last year. Anyway, early days, and should be an interesting season.

We actually had several very good opportunities to move the ball into F50 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters very quickly but broke down with a sloppy possession - get 75% of those right and we are well ahead of the Dees despite their shit kicking for goal. Our fitness looks very good late in games too
Playing less talls overall gives us extra midfield depth and it will be vital we get this mix right come the business end. Agree that SS will be very important and I can see Menegola and GHS playing in the same team as the really good sides have many good inside mids. Added bonus is better depth allows Danger and the skipper more time up forward.
Cockatoo is also very important as he delivers insane pressure up forward and can have a run in the middle.
Our top end talent is fantastic , we will be formidable if the next level down and the young guys all improve.

Talking about Chris Scott, I watched the Hawthorn game yesterday and that Clarkson fellow isn't a good coach. Players not doing the basics. Structure falling apart. They were lucky not to get done by a 100. Bloody Clarkson.
No plan B. Lacks communication skills. Punches walls.

Sick of hearing that shit mate, Bomber didn’t have a chance to redeem himself because he left so how do you or anyone else know he couldn’t have come out and also won the 2011 flag. Look at the results below, there’s a clear pattern when losing the previous year we’ve come out firing the next. Bombers last year was full of turmoil at the club, the Ablett saga was playing out, his private life was rife with problems and Essendon’s approach would also have been on his mind, being written off by Melbourne scribes who knew xxxx all about the ins and outs of what was happening means shit, lucky we even made the finals let lone lose to the pies.

We all know what he’s done what we’re complaining about is the lack of what he’s done, and that is a lack of winning finals when we’ve had sides capable of winning home & away games at an exceptional rate as you put it but then failing in finals. Don’t you think if we’re good enough to beat those sides in the home and away season we should also be good enough to beat them in finals or as supporters do we just go along our merry way and be happy that he maintains that winning record and don’t care if we don’t win finals? So far this season we've beaten 3 ordinary sides but are good enough to beat most of them, doesn't make him a good coach if we were to win 20 or 21 games only to be kicked out of the finals, but hang on!!!! his record would still be kept intact and that's what really matters.
