His argument in that article overlooks the fact that 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 were flags won with experienced lists and topping up. And if Geelong were to pull out a flag next year, then it means the last 2 flags are total outliers to how to win Premierships in the current age.
It's not just about experience, it's about experience together. Both Richmond and Footscray had a core of players who had been together for 4-6 seasons. They were also able to trade to add talent. Richmond added Prestia, Caddy and Nankervis this off season. Footscray added players like Suckling and Boyd. That's no different to any flag this decade. In fact, it's no different to any flag in my life time, or at any time.

And this riding Bomber's coattails thing is just revisionist garbage. If Bomber had stayed as coach, there is no way we win that flag, and I would also suggest you go back to the end of 2010 and see exactly how many supporters thought we'd had our day and were in for a slide.

Bang on! I get sick of this "Scott only won the flag due to Bomber" bullshit.
And it was not just the supporters who thought that the Cats were on the way down. That also was the firm opinion of the experts in the media.

And the year before Richmond traded pick 19 for Yarran. Imagine if Geelong had traded for an ice addict who didn't end up playing a game for the club! Chris Scott would have been blamed for it completely.

But now Hardwick is a hero who can do no wrong.

The criticism of Hardwick ,the club in general and even the captain has been totally warranted IMO.
They've fallen apart in finals and have made some disgraceful trades and drafting over the years.
After a review and some good changes they've finally got it right and stuck it up everyone. Good on em.
Doesn't mean criticism wasn't right or necessary though.

Richmond had all the things Geelong didn't.
Character, commitment, intensity, hunger, passion, buy in.......there was nothing 'lucky' about their Premiership.
They earnt it

Perhaps if Geelong stopped making excuses we'd be regarded a little higher than finals easybeats
A home ground final...wait, was that three home ground finals? You are right about one thing - they weren't lucky.

We also had 2 home ground finals.
I've never heard the club has asked the AFL to play all our home games at KP.
I also didn't hear of the club doing or saying anything at all about getting more Geelong fans into the QF when Richmond were buying our tickets.
Only heard from the club criticising our fans before the Sydney game.

The same home ground we won every single final at in 2007, 2009, and 2011. Including three wins over Collingwood who play their home games there. Must have missed all the complaints about it at the time.

Even more embarrassing than the team's efforts against Richmond and Adelaide has been the pissing and moaning by supporters about things that had no bearing on the result. Just shows an unwillingness to face reality. Pathetic.

Who cares!!!!!!

You win Premierships on the MCG. We don't play the MCG well, and we'd better start to learn to if we want to win a Premiership anytime soon

I know it may affect revenue, but the club really should be demanding that we play more games at the MCG.

At this stage, we're behaving like an interstate team in every sense.

Not really, I think they would have beaten us at KP, probably in hindsight. But try as you might, you will never be able to remove the taint of the AFL manipulating the finals series. Home ground advantage, it's a real thing. So while you trumpet for another club, much like you did last year for the dogs when the AFL again manipulated the finals series, your criticism rings a little hollow.

It is staggering that posters here still don't understand the rules.

Nowhere in the rules does it state that Geelong are entitled to a home final
It says we are entitled to a home state final at the best available Stadium
That will always be the MCG. As if the AFL were going to lock out 60000 fans just so we could satisfy a few insular thinking Geelong supporters.
Too bad for them....

Or we could have done the redevelopments with some forward thinking, and designed it to sit more than a paltry 34000

Short sighted......and quite amateurish to be frank

This I agree with, especially with the predicted population growth rates for Geelong, but it would have cost ALOT more.

It would have been genuinely ambitious. And we'd be definitely playing finals in it.

It would have taken a lot longer, meaning that we'd be playing a lot more home games at the MCG while it was being built. I wonder what the outcome of that would be?

Maybe they investigated that option, but the financiers simply said 'no way' ?

Then we won't be getting too many home finals going forward.

I didn't say anything about the rules. I know the rules, thanks champ, so grab a hold of yourself before you pass out in excitement. But now you bring it up...

It is that exact rule that allows the AFL to captains pick who plays a final at their home ground, whether they have earned it or not. That rule was an advantage to Richmond, a disadvantage to us, and a blight on the integrity of the competition.

Apologists for the almighty dollar, at the expense of our footy club confuse me - at some point you have to admit you don't put the Cats first in footy, right? The AFL corporation do not own footy, they are the custodians for it. I expect more integrity from them, and you think you have the right to scoff at my insular thinking? You are asleep at the wheel, mate.

You I wasn't referring to you mate
But us not getting home finals is a harsh business reality

The AFL is a business....their commercial interests will alwYs come first

We aren't going to change their minds by adding a couple of extra thousand seats at the cost of 10s of millions of dollars

For the money we've spent, we've gotten very little in fact.

Yep, and surprise, surprise, the reason had a poor finals record wasn't as simple as that he couldn't coach.

There is a time for criticism, and that time has not yet come.

Yep. And it wasn't that Cotchin couldn't play either. You could say both had underperformed in finals and both turned it around.
The club coach and players had a good look at themselves, kicked the right people out, got the right people in made some smart list decisions.

That's great. But the club has never asked for a final or even all 11 home games at KP.
Hard to whinge about it as fans when the club itself won't ask for it/want it.
