For the record, I am not in the Scott out camp. You want proof he can coach, he smashed Longmuir and as a result of team set ups, strategy and rotation we smashed Sydney. We could have won by 4 or 5 goals. We could have lost. Franklin had the BIGGEST smirk at the end of their previous final and I think Sydney expected us to roll over.

Lonergan going is the best thing for Scott. Taylor goes back, the back 6 becomes significantly more balanced, we brought in a player in Ablett that can either provide something forward that we don't have, or play midfield that gives Danger more forward time which benefits the team.

But in Prelim finals he played players against opponents or in positions that shouldn't have played in. And its confusing because a lot of the message boards I go on, the fans could see that putting Danger starting at FF vs Adelaide would be a bad move in the lead up to the match. And he left him there far too long. And when arm chair coaches like us can see that, yet the guys in the box don't it leaves you to wonder. When the team sheets came out the general consensus was we went in far too tall. And where did we lose the match? Speed out of defence, in transition and defensively up forward.

What about proof he can't coach getting smashed by Richmond and Adelaide? Or the other finals failures where he has been unable to prepare the team properly or implement a game plan that works on the biggest stage? Majority here seem happy with top 4 and then getting constantly smashed by lower ranked teams in the finals. If we are never going to go close to a premiership with this list/coach we should bring in someone else who can prove if its the list or coach. I have seen nothing to suggest Scott has learnt from previous finals failures - he is too stubborn for his own good and too many yes men at the club. Everythings fine though because we got Dangerfield and Ablett to entertain our supporters for the next few years.

Did you select us to beat Adelaide over there? It's a monumental task having now been there for a final.
What did you think of Richmond's performance against Adelaide?
Hardly lower ranked- we finished half a game up on Tigers, and lesser %, and their run of narrow losses could easily have seen them on top.
Any top 4 finish is meritorious, and again, we beat our nemesis, Swans.
Just not good enough against the Grand Finalists. We did push Richmond, until the last quarter and a bit, and losing Guthrie hurt .

It’s cute, the foamers actually do think we’re all sitting here singing kumbaya and joyous about losing finals. We’re not.

Many just don’t agree with the extremist negative viewpoint, and fair enough too.
Simply making finals certainly isn’t enough to hang our hat on but, in essence, I would’ve thought it’d invoke some enthusiasm and positivity given it suggests we’re closer to achieving the end goal of a GF win than if we consistently missed them.

We were competitive v Tigers for 3Q
We were poor v Adelaide.
Just shows how far off the pace our list really is away from home.
We only looked competitive on the scoreboard the actual game was terrible.

Richmond played like a side lacking finals experience and messed up a lot of opportunities early in the game.

There is no excuse for these results its a mature list that has played multiple big finals before.

Oath man. Look I don't mind not winning flags to be really honest. I've seen 3 in my lifetime.
I also don't mind not winning PF's as long we put in a decent showing and actually learn from our mistakes in some way.

What I F**king hate however is the f**king excuses.
Hearing bullshit from club/coaches and some fans actually make the losses twice as bad.

It's the leftover losers mentality our club was stuck with before our premiership success. Geelong fans were happy just to watch Ablett win games of his own boot - very easy to please our lot. Low standards. Most here are happy to just make finals, how dare we get in a new coach with fresh ideas.

to use an analogy - which will only ever stretch so far, so it wont be perfect - how i see 'keeping scott', and how i belive the club might see it is:

scott is $100,000. not an amazing amount of money, but you can do a lot with it. you cant retire on it (so it isnt perfect), but you have it. not a whole lot has to go right for it to be exactly what is needed though, if you find the perfect deal on a property say. a bit like finishing top 4 more often than not - a few things fall your way, you can win it all even if you arent the best in it - outside the 8, and theres no chance no matter what.

OR - you could trade it for the mystery box!

get lucky, and the box might have $10 million in it. never work again, buy anything youve ever wanted! that $100,000 you risked to get it would look awful - why did i ever consider not risking it for this!

or you could get a $15 spendless shoes voucher. boy, if the box contained that, the $100,000 would look so good in hindsight.

sure, scott isnt everything youve ever wanted as he stands, but a bird in the hand, the grass is always greener, and all that stuff.

give him up, and we could do a whole lot better. or we might no be a threat again for a long time.

easy to say what the 'right thing for the club to do' is when there is no possibility of your plan going wrong and being made to look a fool.

Yay! I have a 100 grand and some kind of cheap voucher, what's this? A mystery box! wooohoooo!!
Birds, greenery, club right thing maybe wrong thing, fools, where? oh i see, holy Scott batman!

JK mate ;) sort of kinda...

long story short - a solid known quantity in your possession versus an unknown that could be better, worse or about the same.

hard not to stick with the trusted that keeps delivering decent results. very easy from afar with nothing but emotion invested and no risk to say 'get rid, start over'.

can stick with someone who continues to fail or go with someone new who may or may not fail

personally if something isnt working for me i tend to make changes

it's unfortunate that a lot of people settle for mediocrity

The Greatest coach of all time, Sir Alex Ferguson, took 7 years to win. What might have been if the doubters got him fired before that.

It's all very well in saying that but in the entire country there are about 7 blokes who are decent AFL coaches and we have one of them. Throw me some names fam. If you say Brett Ratten I will backhand you.
