I am going to get on the Irish jumping us early and humiliating us in the International Rules. Get back some of the money I've wasted on AFL this year.

I enjoy being proven right about Blicavs in finals. Not going to deny that or remotely apologise for it. Have been slammed for five years for daring to question why this clown gets the preferential treatment he does, and he let us down, in finals, again.
When he got tackled rather crudely by Cotchin early in the game, near the boundary line, he got up and told Cotchin that crap is not on. Right then and there you can see his mentality is not what you want for a final. Cotchin is hard but he does play a little dirty. Selwood is the same kind of person. If they know they can hurt someone while trying to win the footy, they will.
This club doesn't have the cattle to play finals.
Too many players on luxurious annual salaries who have coasted through life on natural ability.
Not enough hard edged players who have done it tough.

Time to turn over the assistants.
Rahilly and Knights need to be moved on. Both have been in charge of the two areas of the ground where we continually get exposed come finals time, the forward line and midfield.

We haven't had a properly functioning forward in ages, our forwards don't work for each other no one puts on blocks nor makes leads to create space for others to lead in anymore. And our one key forward doesn't have the confidence to take set shots for some reason.

Can they take wells with them?
Unfair.

Look at our recent draft development. It's the stuff legends are made of.

2009 first pick: Menzel. Oh yeah we dropped him, forget that.
2010 first pick: Smedts. Oh that's right, he's gone.
2011 first pick: Kersten. Oh that's right, he's gone.
2012 first pick: Thurlow. Wasn't selected.
2013 first pick: Lang. Wasn't selected.
2014 first pick: Cockatoo. Injured.
2015 first pick: -
2016 first pick: -

In Wells we (used to) trust.

The Emu - for what its worth, my reply last night was a bit uncharitable, shouldnt have called you a jackass. but i was out with friends in adelaide and figured id make a few posts to acknowledge the situation and congratulate the tigers. couldnt be bothered getting too deep into stuff on here while out, though. i do believe you deserve a considered reply, though.

still believe you should re-read most of my posts... dont believe i have anything to 'apologise' to you about. ive said in these threads a few times i have some doubts about scott and his approach. my recent posts in here have been neutral, and made no claims on scott being great or you being 'proved wrong'. if you can extract some quotes where i directly challenged your support of the club, that scott woukd streak the finals and 'shut you up' etc, ill happilly apologise. most of my posts, i believe, canvassed good and bad possibilities - often independent of scott. i mean, i even said scott could win the flag this year and still not necessarily be a great coach!

i also still believe youre wrong about a few things overall... i dont believe scotts finals record is due to him being a 'terrible finals coach'. just dont think we are that great. i also dont think 'win flag = great coach, lose flag = terrible coach' is necessarily true. im perhaps over-simplifying your position there, but i do think your a tad dogmatic about 'all things scott', and you being right about last night doesnt change that.

like i posted last night, we were 5 close games (a bit 'lucky', i guess) from finishing maybe 11th, yet we finished 2nd and got pumped by a ruthless richmond!

im happy for them, though - like ive always said, sport is a game where you must except the downs with the ups. i have, and if we cannot turn it around and make the GF, im going to be supporting richmond hard!

so for what its worth, im sorry for calling you a jackass, i admit last nignt went how you expected (pribably worse, actually) and i admit i didnt see that coming!

hope there are no hars feelings - but if you do want to ectract some quotes of mine for direct apologies on things, go for it, and if required i will gladly offer as many as are needed!

and hey - we ARE actually still in it!

to finish, i stand by ALL my posts in this thread regardless. i think you might have skimmed quite a few and misses my broader points in your haste to disagree, to be honest.

I will reserve judgement for another week. But regardless of what happens, let's get rid of this 'Greatness' crap.

Yeah, we have a stable club, a nice ground, a team that makes finals. That's not greatness, it's competence.

If we make the GF this year (a big 'if'), I might revise my opinion.

Scott needs to get an assistant from a club who dominates the G.
Someone from Hawthorn, Richmond or even the Pies

I understand we have Obree and Knights but obviously they don't understand the dimensions of how to play the larger ground

I don't think he did.
We had 38 inside 50s. GAS wouldn't have changed the result.
What was the inside 50s count up to 3qtr time? A couple of sneaky, crumbling goals in the 2nd or 3rd could have changed a lot in the flow of the game.

All hypothetical of course, but Menzel is a creator when at his best. We lacked that last night.

No idea what could have changed the butchering of the ball through the midfield though...

I actually posted this in the GAJ thread but probably more relevant here I think:

if we are serious about building a TEAM to do something, we shelve this idea pronto. he won't improve the dressing room culture or chemistry, will offer little leadership if any, and is at the sunset of his career. If we had only 1 or 2 holes and he could help, i'd be all over it. Our problems are far deeper than that, and will require organic player development, we can't trade to fix ALL our issues. It simply can't be done. And this is more than a 12 month job ahead of us, surely we all realise that now? Time to move on, from Ablett, from quick fixes, from emotional decisions and commercial decisions. Time to really roll up the sleeves and get working on the hard, painful, often unrecognised work. We tried planting out a beautiful summer border in quick time. Had some early spring success, but didn't survive the harsh summer because the root growth wasn't strong enough. Time to dig over the soil, mulch well, add organic material and prepare the summer border properly. Then plant. The growth will be slow, but when it does come, the roots will be strong and vigorous. Then the magic happens.

Probably does ok there. I don't mind our drafting and recruiting so much or the experienced players we have brought in and what they cost. What I mind is the bull shit way they all play and the development of the younger and now fairly experienced players.

I think the development is OK. The way we play is a whole other matter and continues to frustrate the crap out of me.

There is Mitch Duncan who has gone on to become a seriously good player, and Menzel if not for knee injuries, name me one other player who the club have developed into a gun under Chris Scott's tenure?

Of all players who are now 25, 26 years of age, still very big question marks on Blicavs, Murdoch, Motlop, Horlin-Smith, Guthrie, Cowan, Ruggles, Stanley.
There are younger players who seem to be following a similar path.
