I posted this in the Draft / delisting thread but on reflection it deserves a thread of it's own.

As IP noted there Scham is in the fittest at the club already after overcoming his illness.

That speaks volumes for his determination and has to be admired.

Beware Smithy, I remember another young QLD'er who came to WA , and took his girlfriend home to meet Mum, if fact everytime He took her home to QLD She came back to WA pregnant. :o

I hope to see get a run next season for us. By the article it seems he'll get his chance. I like hearing about his fast legs. Maybe things will not be soooo bad if Foster and Smith can get speed back into the centre, along with Peake. Nice to read that he gets along well with Harves.

I am super excited that Crowley, Peake and Schammer were amongst the fittest. All 3 of the guys underperformed for different reasons in 07. Crowley did his knee against Ireland, Peake x2 collarbone breaks, Schammer had appendicitis complicated by bowel obstruction.

All 3 were part of the 9 game winning streak. Perhaps our midfield isn't in as dire straights as we think. Foster and Smith looking top notch.

We still have Carr x2, Hasleby, Black, Bell, Headland who are all class players.

Solomon palying cameo roles, BOB coming along nicely. We are about to add a 1st round midfielder to the group (*fingers crossed).

Things are looking up.

The 19-year-old is officially the fourth-fittest player on Fremantle’s list after finishing behind Ryan Crowley, Byron Schammer and Brett Peak in a group fitness test on October 6.

I find Ryan Crowley being there hard to believe seeing he tore the sh*t out of his hamstring about a month back now.

Another reason why Foster should be upgraded... so that Smith can be elevated for JLo if / when we need him. :)

Good point. Might need to cut one more free.

After reading this perhaps we should have the balls to take Rance if for some reason Palmer is gone.

Would be nice if Smith could cement a spot in the WAFL side before he is promoted. Thats one of Freo's main problems, so many of these young guys are given games with wishy-washy WAFL form. You should be getting consecutive BOGs to be in line for an AFL game, not just a solid performance.

Stop dribbling carp weagle boy, and hurry up and out yourself as a bluenyella... your pretending to be a purpleite is becoming very, very tiresome. Smithy was in very good form in his last few games for Swans league team, before the season ended.

'good form' is abit strong.

He played some good games where he was around the best players.

That should be a given for a bloke on an AFL list.

Pray tell WTF more you can expect from a 19 year old on a rookie list???

"some good games where he was around the best players"...

he had a number of 20+ possession games, was named in the best players on the WAFL site a number of times, including a BoG for Swans in the final round.

Sounds like the kid is doing alright to me.

The guy was playing reserves for most of the year. Came good at the end. Look at someone like McNamara. He killed it for the whole year. Made the state side.

Why does it not surprise me that you are using a weagle player as an example?? You are so transparent. McNamara wasn't an 18 year old moving states, and the only player from his AFL club at his WAFL club like Smith was.

Chris Lewis wanted Smith playing seniors much earlier than Freo gave permission for him to... and I'd take a guess that he played just as many league games as he did reserves during 2007. It's a credit to him - as opposed to a slight like you are trying to make out - that he did as well as he did in the league games he played... he finished the season off very strongly.

Why didn't you use Andrew Foster as your comparison example?

I have to say comparting McNamara & Smith is not exactly fair on Smith. As IP stated, the lad moved from another state and placed in whizz bang fun WAFL club of Swan Districts.
In any event, no matter what any of us think, we shall see next season how this guy will go for us methinks.

I thought he was a better comparision because he was taken in the first round of the rookie draft, afew picks after Smith. And also they are the same age, Foster is 3-4yrs older and should be producing at his age.

If he gets his spot he will earn it, this is about making a judgement call on his likely form.

If we keep the Drill and with JLo - one would think there would be opportunities if he is good enough.

Plus Brent - change your club to the Weagles and be done with it.

Your view on Summa was interesting.

Freo have dug themselves a hole getting Harvey over. He is on more money than alot of senior coaches and no doubt expects the senior role.

He isnt good enough to be a senior coach, many people in footy circles know this. Essendon knew this, thats why O'Donnell will be the next coach of the bombers. If Freo do replace CC and they dont pick Harvey to replace him, then Harvey wont be wanted by the new coach (one would imagine). Imagine having some wannabe coach like Harvey chopping at your heals while you are trying to establish your coaching career.

As far as Suma as a coach, obviously very hard to gauge. Doesnt strike me as the most insightful bloke. Also I dont think you can say he is a good coach because he took charge of our midfield. Ummm... talk about the easiest job in the league. One thing I know for sure, if it came down to a battle of wits between he and Woosh, I would place everything I own on Woosha.

Someone like Micale would be a better fit for Freo. That guy is severly underated, could easily coach an AFL side yet has no profile. Extremely respected at WC (for those from Vic; Micale has WAFL coaching record mirroring Leigh Matthews). He doesnt have the marketing or x-factor that Freo always crave but he is a hard, hard man and would take no ****. Also knows footy inside and out and backwards twice.

Anyway, I hope Freo keep their sticky paws away from our coaching staff. They came find and groom their own.

Your - I'm not an Eagle is smashed, you are a troll and if you want to offer your view do so honestly as an Eagle and without pretending to be one of us.

Foster missed an awful lot of football due to shoulder issues. 2006 was his first full year, so he is really only one year ahead of Smith / McNamara in playing terms.

He won't be promoted, but hopefully he gets an opportunity next year.

More importantly, does anyone know if Alison from the team store is a good sort? ;)

i agree i don't think he will be promoted but i think and hope he gets a chance next year. he seems to be a hard worker and by the sounds of it has a good engine and pace which we need badly. We can always give him a run in the NAB cup and see how he goes.

*BuMp*
So where is young smith up to thus far this season. Those in the know & who watch the matches, does the young lad have it what it takes yet???
Will he make it onto our senior list??
Is he pressing for more consideration for selection???
