Reported on channel 7 tonight that during the NAB cup Chris Tarrant will be played at Centre Half Back with some rotations through the midfield.

Harvey reckons it may extend his career moving to defence.

They also mentioned Antoni Grover moving up forward for a trial during the NAB cup.

Certainly worth a try. Surely they are joking about putting Grover up forward though?

cant see either of those moves happening.

tarrant would be much better in the midfield as he's got a great field kick, so he'd do well on the wing getting inside 50s.

grover could not have kicked more than 10 career goals, and i just cant see him as a forward.

Ballantyne will be better than Medhurst ever was. The raccoon will go to shit next year after a couple of decent years.. same as when he was with us. Heart the size of a pea ;)

Well why don't you then..............On your own page....;)
Nicely put sir, I don't know how you can be so polite to clowns like this.

Back on topic, I love the idea of Tarrant playing as a defender. Kicking for goal is his most serious liability, other than that he is a supreme athlete. Hope they try it.

Bloody ridiculous idea, only Fremantle would sell the farm for a forward then try to turn him into a defender. Grover as a forward is even more absurd. And I can't see Ballantyne being half the player Medhurst is. :(

Haha if you say so champ.

I like to operate on fact, not speculation.

Medhurst is an All-Australian and currently one of the best forwards in the league. Has plenty of heart and just needed a decent club to nurture his talent.
Tarrant is also an All-Australian.

One of the best forwards? Messrs Franklin, Fevola and Pavlich beg to differ.

A wise poster on this board regularly states, the definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over again, despite knowing that it does not work. Tarrant has played as a forward for the last 2 years and Grover as a backman for the last 5 or 6. How much success has Freo had in that time?

Picked in the forward line of the most recent All Australian team. I think that qualifies him as one of the best forwards in the competition.

But if you want to draw comparisons with players who quite obviously play totally different roles to Medhurst in an effort to downgrade his status then that's up to you.
If you had qualified your statement by saying he is one of the best small forwards in the league, then it may have been close to the truth. Purely as a forward though, he isn't in the same league as the three I mentioned.

What do small forwards and tall forwards have in common? Oh that's right, they play in the forwardline making them all forwards. Medhurst was named as one of the forwards in the All-Australian team of '08 so it is fair to say that he is one of the best forwards in the league is it not? Wasn't aware that I would need to dumb it down any further but will keep it in mind in the future :thumbsu:

The players haven't run out with their jocks outside their shorts in the last 2 years, maybe they should give that a go too since wearing them on the inside hasn't worked?

Anyone who thinks Tarrant will be a better defender than Grover must be smoking crack IMO.

Just for once id love a thread to be started on the freo board without opposition posters taking it over.... especially collingwood posters with even a slight mention of Chris Tarrant, in case you guys dont know he is no longer a collingwood player so let it go... if ya wanna post crap stay on your own board.

Until Chris is tried down back you or anyone else cannot make that comment cos the answer is unknown. You are most likely right in that comment tho but wait and see.

I don't think a straight swap, or necessarliy a comparison, of Tarrant and Grover in the backline can be made as they are very different styles of players. I expect Tarrant to be more comparable to McPharlin in style as a defender. He is a strong mark, reads the play well and his skills are superior to McPharlin's. Grover tends to play more of a close checking shut-down type role. If the move goes ahead, the whole back-line will need to be restructured to fit. Tarrant as a backman may prove a very handy option when coming up against some of the more talented forward lines, or it may release McPharlin to spend more time up forward.

Are we ever going to get to a stage where we can have a thread on Tarrant without a bunch of collingwood scobes giving us their unwanted opinions?

FWIW, it's worth a go - although i'd prefer a more attacking role in the half back line off a flank.

i wouldnt read too much into Groves playing forward. check out Harves media conference on the club website. Harves was asked about Tarrant and then said "Groves might find himself in a different role this year" and had a chuckle.. it wasnt a serious comment at all.

Yep, Ripper hasn't been putting in the hours lately and the clowns have multiplied.

Ever since CC lost his job as a head coach he and Ripper have found much more time to spend together. ;)
