Ah okay that's fair enough, I was wrong about Redden there, I honestly thought he was Victorian. I'll cop my whack for that one! :p

Still, it was just an example of a trade anyway, my real point was that Carlton aren't getting a 1st rounder for Yarran unless there's a 3rd party involved somehow.

I dont think Carlton will get a first rounder necessarily. I personally believe, he is worth 18-25ish. Carlton will either reject it, and keep him for 1 year or take it. Unknown to Richmond supporters, you need to get a pick to satisfy Carlton.

It is not Carltons job to get you a draft pick that is worth Yarrans value. Lennon would do the job, or

The only clubs I can see as a 3rd party is Essendon (Carlton get Carlisle) or GWS, where Carlton get Plowman, Lamb, Phillips.

The goal posts move regularly, FA was fresh, it has evolved, We would no doubt match Betts offer if he was leaving this season.

Your right yarran is not worth a 1st rounder on performance. The word is he's worth more than 31 but not as high as 18. So where does his value lie? Given he's contracted, any club wanting to remove him from Carlton and put him on their books would have to pay a little over the true market value of yarran 2015.
Obviously the Tigers want him which is where I will direct you back to my original post of offering up 2016 first rounder which should be 15-18 meaning you get him for free this year and don't pay for him until the 2016 season is complete which by then you may feel as though you got a bargain or perhaps even paid true market value for him after all. Also remembering that virtually all carlton players to leave the club in the last couple of years have excelled at their new club.
I think there is plenty of room for negotiating.
I'd rather see something like we give you 2nd round this year and in a stronger draft next year we give you our 2nd for your 3rd...just a thought. If he finished in top 12 in BF then justified if he struggles then I guess not...

I am not sure myself, all I know is on overall form he is not a first rounder. If he was then he'd be swapped for one, no questions asked.

Don't want to see either club held for ransom

I think Ben will be the ticket to getting it all solved although not a great deal for CFC , better than a 2nd rounder.
Patience all the fun has yet to begin.
We are not compelled to release Yarran and if RFC want to improve their list they' love have to be creative.
No way will a 2nd rounder cut it that just ludicrous.

Well said Ares no club should be held for ransom and players should not threaten with ultimatums.
Let's hope both parties are adequately compensated.

Not so sure on this one either. Could we swap 2nd rounders?
Lennon + Richmond 2nd rounder (30ish).

for

Yarran + Carlton's 2nd rounder (20) and 3rd rounder (39).

Again, Lennon would only be up for trade if he wanted to leave though, if he wanted to stay, the deal goes back to:

Richmond 1st rounder (12) + 3rd rounder (40ish).

for

Yarran + Carlton 2nd rounder (20)

There's room for negotiating for sure, my comments in this thread are directed at people who think a deal such as "Yarran for pick #12" or "Yarran for Lennon" would ever happen.

Richmond are generally pretty fair to trade with, and they won't try to completely screw the Blues over, but the Blues have to accept that they probably won't get the absolute best deal possible for what Yarran's talent actually is, due to the situation.

Yarran at his highest level is actually probably worth a Top 10 draft pick, but there's no guarantee that he'll get back to that after a couple of ordinary years, which is why he's not worth that much anymore.

Yarran is a "risk vs. reward" type of recruitment, and the Tigers like to minimize risk wherever humanly possible (see Harley Bennell decision).

We'll help RFC totally minimizes all
risks because if the compensation is not adequate, we'll keep Yarran simple.
Silvani has a function and that's to maximize gians from trades,
Therein is the issue, play fair and all will be resolved.

And that is totally fair and reasonable.

I am totally content with it going to 2016 FA and playing it by ear after.

Have no fears about it whatsoever!

I think 4--6 pick differential is probably more important to bigfooty posters than it is to actual list managers from clubs.

Sometimes you just need to get the deal done to move on or move the player on.

There may be a situation where clubs need a ball park pick and the deal just gets done

Carlton are lucky he wants to go to Richmond, the only club in the league who would overpay. I'd say no way in hell is he worth a first rounder, and he isn't, but Richmond could go crazy and do it.

Mate, you are doing my head in. He is YOUR list manager, at least get his name right in ONE post, please.
......it's SILVAGNI.......
And all list managers have the same function as SOS, so it will all work out.

We'd be bonkers to do that.

Trading Lennon is the stupidest suggestion around, especially for Yarran.

Yarran's worth... Well I think Wallace summed it up perfectly on trade radio.

* Where he was picked means nothing
* He was playing reserves in the worst side in the comp, the wooden spooners, a complete debacle of a side.
* He doesn't want to play with the rabble and has walked out

How a first rounder is gained from that is beyond laughable.

I'd rather he went elsewhere that give up a first round pick.

No team in the AFL will give Carlton a first round pick. None. Zip. Nada. Wake up Blues fans.

I'm sick of hearing how Yarran was playing the reserves this year that's why he is not worth anything. Last year he finished fourth in the blues best and fairest. But when the club is going shit and talking rebuild and sacked coach. Players get disenchanted Then you have clubs like tigers smelling blood and talking to players contracted in the middle of the season. Tigers are the club that chased Yarran who is contracted therefore need to pay overs to get him. I agree that pick 12 is probably too high but unless you are able to get something closer to his worth ie pick 20 not 31. There will be a trade revolving your pick 12.

Honestly, this is the best deal proposed by a Richmond poster.

If Lennon signs on then I'd say an upgrade of picks is the most likely scenario.
