If you say so.

Better to set a precedent that players cannot just walk out and go where ever they want at any price. We have to stand strong, like Port did over Stevens.

So strong.
Fair enough. I don't really blame Carlton for wanting more even though I think 19 is about right.

Ultimately I think they will have to concede that 19 is the best offer they'll get.

With a massive list build in progress or about to begin, you need every pick you can get.

I don't think Carlton are in a position to take a hard stance ATM. If you were a top 4 side it would be different.

I'm confused, a Tiger supporter giving him 400k?

That's not what I said, what I said was, he'd be rewarded down the track in one of his playing contracts with Richmond, if he did have to take that extreme method of getting to the club.
Really you are going to overpay him in his 2017 contract to make up for 400K lost? thats a fair chunk of a contract to add on....

Sure, players will get a message not to walk out on Carlton.
The stronger message is that players will not want to go to Carlton.

Do it. And then the spooners can go to the draft with less first rounders than the tigers.

From The Age:
For Richmond, trading two second-rounders for an early second-rounder is actually a significant downgrade in pick quality if measured using the AFL's draft points system. So if Richmond can't work a trade for 19 they've actually managed to go backwards in the draft without picking up Yarran.
ROFL. :D

There's "standing strong", and being "needlessly stubborn"

Huge difference.
Yep. "Standing strong" is what one's own club does. "Needlessly stubborn" is what those guys on the other side of the trade table are. :D

But that doesn't really concern you, does it? I'm sure the coffee machine will be fine, but thanks for your concern. :D
Flawed analogy is flawed. Yours ignores the risk to your own club. You would cut off your nose to spite your face. Clubs have generally become more pragmatic about this stuff in recent years.

I hope Carlton does stand its ground and that the trade doesn't occur.

Look at all the exers excelling at their new clubs. We have been too generous in the past and that is what is hurting us. No more!

This is really a bit ridiculous, Carlton people thinking they have the upper had because he's contracted when everyone knows they want to offload him. He's on big $$ and doesn't want to be there and they don't want him there. Him not being traded to Richmond would be a disaster for them.

For Richmond, them keeping 19 instead of Yarran is hardly a disaster, more like a calculated gamble they didn't take.

The idea that Carlton can squeeze more out of Richmond is comical.

Lol, you guys seem to have trouble reading. My point was you need talent NOW. You could pick a goodun and develop him for a few years and just watch that window close on you in the meantime. Yarran will get you closer to a flag, NOW!

Geddit? :D
We need talent NOW, you say. I agree. You also need to pick a "goodun" and develop him for a few years. Pick 19 is fair and REASONABLE, IMO of course.
You should be biting our hand off for a pick below 31.
And forget the academy picks pushing the pick number up, the academy kids aren't available anyway.
