Being a strong contributor and holding a spot in a team that makes a PF is worth more than doing so in a crap team. If he becomes an important player in a premiership team, then you'd have to say the trade was a success for you.
His performance is the factor. Whether we win a flag is not.

And I'm not getting involved in what at this point is a semantic argument about "trade value" vs the price at which buyer and seller align to allow any transaction to proceed. You're right, but they are also right that they don't HAVE to trade if they prefer to hold onto their asset in the hope of extracting better value.
1) It's not a semantic argument.

2) Of course I'm right.

3) I never said they had to trade. Only that the market determines trade value.

You guys need to stop expecting a first round pick the interest for yarran is simply not there to expect this, he has nominated Richmond and he will likely be there next year

The team's performance doesn't make any difference.

If he was playing well and we were 16th it would be the same discussion.
You understand that what I'm suggesting is that he has helped your team's performance this year? That's all I'm saying.

I'm dropping out of this now as I'm quickly realising how the "trade value" argument managed to last for five pages, and because this is dragging the thread off topic.

Carlton aren't willing to trade Yarran? Really?

Sure, Carlton have the option of trying to keep Yarran if they don't like the offer.

But his trade value will still be determined by the market. At that point, Carlton can decide whether to trade him or try to keep him.
And if Carlton decide they don't want a second round pick and keep yarran..then yarran's value is worth more than a second round pick.

Sweet Jesus,
What is your horse in this race? You seem to be adamant that you have an superior intellect and opinion than anyone else, so all other opinions are moot. The likelihood of Yarran reaching WC is minimal at this stage. So again, why are you here? Too much time on your hands?

He makes very good points and has told you what the truth is, yarran simply is not worth a first round pick, and there is little interest from any other club other then Richmond

Not saying he is worth a first rounder (second round and steak knives seems most likely, or straight swap for lennon ;)), but the bloke is clearly a pretentious flog.

Straight swap for lennon would not happen which is assume you know, what sort of steaknifes are you exactly hoping for?

Such sparkling originality.

Did you download your entire vocabulary from the part of BigFooty where its distilled stupidity is stored?

The only thing that could make you more of a caricature is if you start wittering about 'structures' and 'hitting the scoreboard'.

I cant see steak knifes happening i reckon the deal will involve another club like Brisbane who we will get there second pick off which will probably be in the 20s
So Richmon gets Yarran and a second rounder (pick 20ish), Carlton gets pick 28ish, Brisbane gets ? This doesn't seem to make sense...

NO Richmond trade there second pick and david asbury, for Brisbane second pick which is around 20, and Richmond trade pick 20 to carlton for yarran
