the suggestion from a poster on bomberblitz is that Yarran is most likely at #5, but that Swift is still in the mix! make of that what you will. if true, does that mean that they consider Yarran a mid? hope so.

Have heard that Freo still rate Yarran highly and is still in the mix for no 3 pick.
I would say they are crazy if they do take him even though they have discarded Farmer & Medhurst recently.
You would think that they might look at either Ballantyne or Richardson as a small forward later in the draft. But you never know with Freo.
Still they could do worse ...Yarran is a very talented footballer and probably the player that will make the greatest impact next year.

But he's not really a small forward. He's a mid who can play small forward isn't he. Has been compared to Shaun Burgoyne. Anyone would spend pick 3 on picking up a player of Burgoyne's quality.

Yarran is a wizard, truly one of the most skilled players I have ever seen but with this confidence comes an air of casualness. The guy just cruises around the field, like he has all the time in the world, casually throwing the ball onto his foot as it goes exactly where he wants it to. The guy is never in a hurry. I would feel a lot more confident about him if I had seen him sprint really hard and burn someone off but for whatever reason he never seems to do this.

I've only seen him in one game from the champs on Fox where he did nothing and the vids on youtube, but some of the stuff he did in the WAFL video had my jaw on the floor. I doubt he'll be available still, but I would have no problem at all with the Hawks taking him with our first round pick.

Better than Rioli? I don't know, but it's going to be a great year watching them both in the AFL trying to decide.

I am with you. Some of that stuff he did at Swan Districts was amazing. I would be happy for the Blues to take him with pick 6 as he is the type of player that we need.

Re: Just Curious, is Yarran Lazy, really?

He is indigenous, isn't he?

I believe there is an official AFL ruling that states that AFL teams and commentators (on tv or amateur on Bigfooty) have to follow certain protocol when discussing indigenous players:

- Without exception, they must be played in the forward pocket.

Young, frail non-indigenous midfielders who don't have the fitness base to run in the center square get played in bursts until they do, or play in defence. Similar Indigenous players will never develop the fitness, and must therefore play in the forward pocket for their whole career.

- Any flashy play that succeeds by an indigenous player is part of their genetic make-up (ie Rioli). Any flashy play that succeeds by a non-indigenous player (ie Didak) is testament to their skill training. Any flashy play by an indigenous player that fails is immediately excused because they don't know any better. Any flashy play by a non-indigenous player that fails is because they are selfish (Fevola)

- If an indigenous player is laid-back in personality, they are lazy. If they are out-going, they have unmentionable 'off-field issues'. If they get drafted interstate and have trouble adjusting, they will never adjust and drop out of the league. If a non-indigenous player is laid-back, they are laconic and a good bloke. If they are out-going, they are a good leader. If they get drafted interstate and have difficulty adjusting, they can demand a trade back home to be closer to their mum.

- When discussing indigenous draftees, they must always be described as 'the best talent in the draft, but a bit lazy'. Their potential must be referred to, but they must always be seen as a riskier proposition than a non-indigenous counterpart.

100% Gold. 100% Tragic. 100% True.

You forgot to mention that for some reason it's now seemingly mandatory for Aborigines to be described as 'indigenous' instead of 'Aboriginal'.

Indigenous is the preferred term to refer to people (who identify themselves) of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage. Many indigenous people also prefer to be identified by their language group rather than just the one-size-fits-all 'Aborigine/al'.

so erm...nice one, Trav.

Re: Why has everybody got Yarran sliding?

I work down at Essendon and can confirm if he is there at 5, Yarran will be a Don. Regardless if Rich slips. Only Hill they rate higher (Watts and Natanui excluded)

You live in Croydon and work at Windy Hill?
Ok

So some player whose name is a number will go to a club with the same name, AND he'll be drafted at that number?
Bookmarked.

hmm good footage
one thing i noticed, particularly in that goal he dribbled through at around 3.10 or something
whats he like off his left?
i saw him use it once, and that was a snap from the square

I've got a feeling this kid is going to become something very very special. you can have your rich, hartlett and all, but if yarran really puts his mind to it, he could become a goodes.

with goodes there to mentor him (we wont need a big forward target, we'll just buy them off to replace hall), he could become something special.

you draft based on junior performances but you don't get that much talent with a midfielder's physique THAT young. if he slipped to us roos wont even think about the decision.

Whoever gets him will have a gem on their hands. If the eagles read his name out at number 2, I wouldn't be bothered. The talent this kid has is unreal and he will play through the midfield when a little more mature, because he played a lot of his colts footy through the middle.

If you read that article that Ryde is God put up, something like a street named desire, you'll see how highly his mate Naitanui rates him.
