Firstly I would not want to take Yarran at 6 ahead of Hurley, Hartlett or Ziebell (my order of preference). Yarran does not show enough consistently for my liking however I might be wrong. Secondly I am sick of all the people bashing Andrew Carazzo. He has been great for us this year again. In all the games we have won he has played a role well. His foot disposal has improved alot and he does not turn the ball over like people think. Definitely orchestrates play for us from the backline. Lastly the most intimidating Carlton team involves Jarrad Waite up forward or around the play. He is probably the x-factor for the blues. Him playing in a damaging position could turn our fortunes.

But then you can probably name a few Pick 6 selections who weren't the best available in hindsight and a few later picks who could easily have gone at 6 in hindsight.

The need to play it safe is usually reserved for the top 2-3 as there is usually some sort of guarantee around this part of the draft. Not so much guarantee after that. Pick 4 and Pick 6 are almost disastrous.

But with the draft we have in front of us it would seem that the top 6-8 should be safe bets...at least moreso than in past years. With so much quality on offer I can't see too many clubs taking speculative or project picks in the first round.

Yes I realise Natanui himself is somewhat of a project, but clearly their is a bit more than just athletic ability to the boy.

The one thing the blues need is speedy players with skills that can kick goals. He has this in spades.

What are your thoughts on Hayden Ballantyne, he is a similar player to Yarran but is a mature age player, and could be around till our later picks.

Ballantyne booted 75 goals in a brilliant 2008 season. He was Peel's main forward target for much of the year, despite standing at just 175cm. He proved he could mark on the lead, win one-on-one body contests and was elusive, quick and dangerous at ground level.

Does seem to have some skills. Weren't there some queries over his draft eligibility after not showing up for a WA state screening?

Does look like a strong mark for his size.

He's fine for the draft, did the screening at UWA today.

Tested very impressively for vertical jump (4-5cm of Naita's jump at DC), 20m sprint and agility as expected. Also pulled in an OK beep test (top 25% according to channel 10)

Cheers for that any more info would help. Still undecided who I would like better their all good right now- what the future holds for them who knows.

Am I the only one who reckons people are talking up Yarran cause they're convinced the Bombers have got Hurley locked?

The bombers could go anyway. They may go Hurley because of the age of Fletcher and the retirement of Mal Michael. They could also go after a quality midfielder like Ziebell, Hartlett or Sidebottom. I'm just happy with the depth of the draft. We can't lose.

That sounds very impressive. What do you reckon our chances areof him falling to pick 40 or further?

Probably,

Yeah

Nah

Maybe.

No question.

Have to admit I have that same feeling. God, I hope so. :thumbsu:

Would be a star at Carlton if he eventually pushes into the midfield as he wouldn't receive a lot of pressure because of your great midfield.

I think he will be one of the top players from the draft.

RigMan, love to see you do your sig with the preferred years - ours.

I have watched Yarran live a number of times this year and he just seems to lazy for my liking. I admit when he is on, he's great but goes missing for long periods of the game.

With so many other good players in this draft I don't think it's worth taking a punt on him

Nail。 Head。

I really wouldn't mind seeing Yarran at the Blues although he seems quite slack on the field. We will need to flog him over preseason to get rid of that attitude.

Was thinking that myself. He doesn't run like Bradley, doesn't have the same precise ball-drop either. Strange..........

Waaay too much hair too, although a graft from his arse is a possibility. That clump of shaping clay is a dead giveaway.
