Seen a few phantom drafts with us taking him. I'm starting to warm to the idea. The guy has some serious talent. I know there's question marks over his attitude and other things however seems to be able to turn it on better then anyone else i've seen in this draft. Would be a risky pick imo however could be an absoloute steal if he comes good once he's in the afl system. A forward line with him and eddie betts would be as exciting and dangerous as it gets. What are other peoples thoughts?

We need someone up front to punish the opposition on the scoreboard consistently, other than Fev. Eddie kicks the odd goal of the year but I want a Rioli/Campbell type. And when do I want him?

I honestly think Yarran could become a more frequent goal kicker then both these guys. Both really great players however i reckon Yarran has more talent then both of them.

Also, from what I understand, he is far superior overhead to either Rioli or Campbell. Stands at over 180cm.

Does look quite capable of taking a mark. Very quick on the lead as well.

You think No 5 might struggle to squeeze into the team? This bloke sounds very good.

I have watched Yarran live a number of times this year and he just seems to lazy for my liking. I admit when he is on, he's great but goes missing for long periods of the game.

With so many other good players in this draft I don't think it's worth taking a punt on him

That's my biggest concern with Yarran as well. As talented as he is, I really think we'd do better by taking a Hurley, Ziebell or Sidebottom.

I am all for taking Yarran if he has a Cyril Rioli x factor about him. With all of our number one picks, we took the safe option and I am happy with those, but there is little x factor amongst those players.

Pick 6 is not always a certainty, we could do worse than add some excitement into the team. This is provided Hurley isn't there as he is our biggest need at around the right pick.

they said the same thing bout Buddy when he was drafted too i believe

Yeah but they said the same thing about Tambling,

Why risk it? This draft is gold, imagine the heart ache we will have if every player that goes in the top 10 plays 200 games and yarren plays 40 shockers for us. Give me whoever is left from Hurley or Hartlett (in that order).

I like the look of the team with Hamish Hartlett, Yarran or Ziebell instead of Carrazzo, but I just can't see Essendon overlooking Hurley.

Unless they overrate their young defenders. :)

Hurley would be the best result for us and allow Waite to play forward.

Yarran would add more speed to our forwardline and side than Ziebell when we play the majority of our games at the Dome which is a fast track.

The side also looks quicker with Walker playing forward.

Browny could replace Carrazzo in the team in the next two years and improve the squad further with his skill on both sides of the body.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing Carrazzo returning to the midfield in a run with role like Brad Sewell.

The team with Hurley in it really improves our overall structure TG. Being able to throw Waite forward, with a forward line of Houlihan, Walker, Betts, Fisher and Fev would vastly improve it. Looks much more intimidating than the other ones (mainly because Carrazzo is not in them and we have a makeshift CHF)

Hope to hell we don't take Yarran at 6...

The flashy, exciting, pocket/flanker types seldom live up to their high draft pick.

Can have just as much success in a 3rd of 4th round, or even a speculative pick in the rookie draft. Stevie J was picked up at 24, Medhurst at 56, Aaron Davey was rookie drafted, Leon Davis was pick 34, McKinley came at 29, Gamble 47...we certainly don't need to blow pick 6 on a bit of flash and dash.

The first rule is you take the best available midfielder, or an outstanding KPP.

Actually the first rule is you don't talk abour fight club, but I'm pretty sure you get what I'm trying to say.

Yarran isn't as quick as Rioli, so we probably shouldn't compare the two based on a stereotype or race. :o

REPEAT SPRINTS – 6 x 30 metres
This test involves players running 6 x 30 metres sprints with a 20-second time cycle. For example, if the player runs 30 metres in 4.30 seconds, he then has 15.30 seconds to recover, before starting his next 30-metre sprint.

1 – Ryan Schoenmakers (Norwood, SA – medium forward) – 24.82 seconds
2 – Sam Blease (Eastern Ranges, VIC – small/medium midfielder) – 24.97
Matthew DeBoer (Claremont, WA – medium midfielder) – 24.97
4 – Nick Naitanui (Swan Districts, WA – ruckman) – 25.10
James Strauss (Oakleigh Chargers, VIC – medium midfielder) – 25.10
6 – Ashley Smith – (Dandenong Stingrays, VIC – medium defender) – 25.14
7 – Stephen Hill (West Perth, WA – small/medium midfielder) – 25.44
Jack Watts (Sandringham Dragons, VIC – tall forward) – 25.44
9 – Alistair Smith (Perth, WA – small/medium midfielder) – 25.48
10 – Taylor Hunt (Sandringham Dragons, VIC – medium defender) – 25.49
11 – Rory Sloane (Eastern Ranges, VIC – medium defender) – 25.57

I don't think anyone was comparing them based on race. I was looking for a comparison based on the much talked about skill level, being a forward, being a crowd pleaser and because they were/are both ranked high in their respective drafts. Rioli was the first success story that came to mind and he has really had an impact right off the bat.

I suppose I could have mentioned Stevie Milne but I would have talked myself out of it altogether if I did that. I'd be happy if Yarran was Stevie Johnson though. He's a white fella ... yes? ;)

Find it hard to believe that there were 10+ players faster inf 2007 than the fastest player recorded 2008. Surely there's a reason to explain such a wide discrepancy.

Yep...which Yarran will not be at pick 6
But then you can probably name a few Pick 6 selections who weren't the best available in hindsight and a few later picks who could easily have gone at 6 in hindsight.

The need to play it safe is usually reserved for the top 2-3 as there is usually some sort of guarantee around this part of the draft. Not so much guarantee after that. Pick 4 and Pick 6 are almost disastrous.

Outdoor - wind factor, indoor - surface grip???
