Re: Chris Yarran

Don't worry about the trolls guys. The kid is clearly a talent. Richmond fans have had to cop it for four years over Richard Tambling - a lot from our own supporters - but he's showing this year what he's capable of. With Cousins out he is our best player, with Cousins in he's our second best, and if he doesn't win the B&F he'll be runner-up.

Can't wait til we meet you in September again - the way it should be. Hopefully, unlike last time, it won't be a false dawn for either of us.

Re: Chris Yarran

He sounds arrogant and lazy and taking it for granted and has no idea what it will take to make it

Sounds like a good kid, onya yazza :thumbsu:

Mike and Dan's Play of the Week 23 July, 2009

Chris Yarran: Play of the Week

Q. How does playing in the Bullies compare to playing in the WAFL? Is it a similar standard?

The WAFL is a quicker, open like game, very attacking football, the VFL is probably more like the AFL in that style of play.
Why hasn't Yarran kicked 39 goals like he did last year?

Bottom line: '08 draft a beauty

Bottom line: '08 draft a beauty

Chris Yarran, Carlton's choice at pick six, hasn't done as much as the first five. But again, it's too soon to judge him. Yarran was one of the most naturally talented players in the draft, if not the most gifted; people talk and talk about how their forward line needs more options, and in drafting Yarran the Blues addressed that. Give him some time. He has some special talent.

I found this paragraph on Karmichael Hunt's potential to develop AFL fitness interesting and relevant to Chris Yarran in light of the comments Wayne Hughes made post-draft.

New Blues face long road
"He's certainly a similar player in relation to the way he plays in the forward line and I think, like Cyril, he'll develop into a midfielder. When he's aerobically stronger we would think that he'll push into the midfield."

Weight and you'll see with Hunt

Andrew Weller, who worked at St Kilda for five years, said Hunt's strength and explosive speed meant re-shaping his body for Australian football would be a simpler task than trying to turn an endurance athlete into an AFL player.

"The other important thing is that you can train sprinters to run marathons, but marathon runners can't become sprinters. Fast-twitch fibres have a better capacity to change and become aerobic-type fibres, whereas if you're slow, you can get faster, but you'll never have sprinters' capabilities.
Yarran will be a small forward only.

If Murphy can kick 28 goals from the midfield, you better lock up your women and daughters once the silky and explosive Yarran has developed the motor to play on the ball.

Yarran would have been electric against Port with the way we ran the ball down the ground and kicked goals from the midfield.

Don't think I am picking on you TG but what do you mean  (Or have you just celebrated hard and envisaged Yarran playing today)

CHRIS Yarran's ex-WAFL coach has called for patience from Carlton fans, warning he will become an AFL star when he lifts his workrate.

"I would have thought he was always a top-10 pick. He has just got wonderful ability, so it was no surprise he went pretty early," Dawson said yesterday.

"I think he will take some time and that was always on the cards with Chris. He is a wonderful talent, but it's all come relatively easily to him because of his skill and ability.

"He hadn't had to work too hard in juniors. He has to understand the need for a higher workrate. But I am sure he can do it, it just might take a little bit more time."

What does Yarran's background have to do with anything?

Unfortunately, it has a lot to do with everything.

They won't admit it, but a huge reason why trolls fling crap at Yarran is because he is an 'Aboriginal small forward'. They will defend themselves by saying that it is not the case, but we all know it's true.

That's just the sort of fickle people we have in Australia and that follow our club.

It's terrible and just down right pathetic, but it is absolutely the case.

This type of comment gives me the irrits as well. :)
While the Blues overlooked Rising Star favourite Rich for Yarran
Six clubs overlooked Rich last year, yet the inference is only Carlton and Fremantle made a mistake in not picking the midfielder. No one writes that Brisbane overlooked Rich for Ziebell who is just 18 and a rich talent with the potential to embarrass the Lions.

Short sighted flogs...

And of course you know this for a fact? Could it be that your opinion of people ( - being sure that most people are racist) could be just as twisted

Being sure that most people are pathetic would seem as evil as thinking that race matters

But I am not absolutely sure about things like you

Don't tell me you are going to say "the people of Australia" too

After the popular support of the Tampa incident, The Cronulla beach riots and Howards 10 point plan Its fair to say I have a fairly dim view of my fellow countrymen.

The overt blatant racists are thankfully a thing of the past. Its the more insidious shit that bugs me the most.
