Hope we hold firm, Yarran is a silky skilled footballer in a new environment he'll surely shine.
He's contracted so hopefully we're not taken to the cleaners.
15 to 18 and a fringe player with potential would be fair.

Somewhere between 35-50. Sensational depth player for us wouldn't want to move him for worse than a 3rd

Most trade value to us as part of a bundle trade.

So really we are getting the latest of first rounders for Yarran and paying for Simpkin closer to the top of his range. I think with Yarran contracted, the deal has to be slightly in our favour. Anybody chasing him is doing so based on what he can do at close to his best, rather than what he is doing in a disinterested year. On that alone, the late first rounder is unders for us. That's why others are asking for worthy fringe players without the 3rd rounder coming back.

Let's split the difference on Simpkin and say he is worth #42 and assuming that he fits our recruiting profile this year. Let's say Yarran was worthy of his #6 at his best, still has lots of years left but gets downgraded for attitude risk (which won't be there out of our losing environment) and we want #12-13 for him.

Would #18 & #42 equal #12 or 13? Possibly. But you can see how all first rounders aren't the same especially in this draft so we shouldn't be the ones accepting unders to get rid of a player others can use.

You're over valuing Yarran. Like was said above 15-18 is about right. Simpkin is EASY in your best 15 just not our best 25. If he was playing for Carlton you'd ask for pick 20....

Serial over valuers.

40 for Simpkin is about right so you're being silly if you're denying this trade on value. The fact Simpkin would be a walk up midfielder for you and Yarran would only get a game if Suckling goes says it all.

Well .. stop the discussion. The master valuer has entered the fray. We are rebuilding. If we hope to become a top team in a few years, why are we giving up #40 for a player that can't crack it with a top team? Yarran has done 10 times more than Simpkin despite his disinterested year. Why are the Hawks chasing him already when the spot isn't open yet and spending time on a fringe player? We'd take the pick alone before we threw in #40 for Simpkin as well.

I'd rather keep Yarran and take the chance with FA compo than give him away on a speculator in a weak draft so Hawthorn can keep winning flags.

Serial over valuers as opposed to serial self promoters. Two flogs enter ... One flog leaves. Let the battle begin.

Oh and OddHawk ... yeah that post was deleted but I'll answer it anyway. If you had any comprehension skills, you would have seen that I rated Yarran at #6 at his best. Read that again in case it is slow sinking in. He was taken at #6 in the draft, is right up there with our most skilled players when in form and until this year had a much higher trade value than this year.

Hawks are not viewing him based on this year as a possible 22nd best player to replace Suckling. They see him as being a potential top 10 player in their side or they wouldn't have bothered already. Teams that want a contracted Yarran will be discounting his efforts to get out of Carlton and looking at his better form. I see that as around #12-13. You were talking #15-18. Hardly a world of difference ya nong.

You might want to learn some team board etiquette quickly as well.

Our first rounder and mitch brown for the yazzle.
Your first rounder will be around Hawthorn's and the steak knives is not too bad. Will be 27 at the end of the year but god knows we could do with some key position experience.

Played every game last year aside from 3 when he was injured. Was decent in all but a handful and for the most part he was being asked to play on small forwards in those games. Can't judge him on this year when he was injured after 12 minutes.

I think that is a pretty decent risk/reward offer.

Oh boy. We are the over valuers and the silly ones? Read the para above again then go and look in the mirror. Then honk back at the goose you see.

Think what Oddhawk needs to realise is often posters will value their own team's players higher than opposition fans, you can see it anywhere on BigFooty. It is what it is.

The truth usually lies somewhere in the middle.

We over value our players so much that we just give them away for peanuts or nothing.
Pick 61 for Garlett was so good for us.
Dump Robbo and Laidler in the Salvos used players bin for the povvo clubs who need best 22 players for free.

Eddie Betts? Pay him heaps, don't worry about us. Keep his goals, they're all yours, we dont need them. Same goes for Waite. Compo shmompo, its degrading.

Sorry to say - But you are not the first to overrate our players. 15-18 is his worth, nothing more. Not as if he's won a couple of B&F's

Jock, he is worth what the market is willing to pay for him, not what individual supporters think he is worth. This is not an exact science. A player at his age who had won a couple of B&Fs would be worth an early first rounder so that part is irrelevant.

What is his skill level? Has he exhibited said skill level enough to confirm that is his skill level? What are his deficiencies and can they be overcome by going to a new team? Does the buyer have a need for him? Is he in contract? Is there a chance he will get us better compensation or equal compensation as a free agent next year? Is there a chance he lifts his performance next year if he stays?

All of that suggests we don't merely accept whatever is on offer for him.

Last year he was decent, his name was put forward for trade and half of us didn't want him to go even though they were talking having him involved in a Boyd deal. This year he is unhappy and not giving his all. His value could be argued forever and a day.

In which draft Jock?

You have to apply a player to the number at the top end of the draft.
Yarran is worth quite a bit to the right club or else we may risk him being worth more as a FA next year....who knows though....he may still come to the party.

And if we play him as a small forward Yaz will be awesome for us next year. Having Yaz and Menzel running through the midfield and forward would give us the outside speed Cripps needs to link to. I say hold on Yaz unless we get a compelling offer.

Everybody's upset with the way Yarran is going about things right now but there's no rush to tell him that he's unwanted and that we'll clear him at any cost.

Plenty of time to see whether we can get things 'back in order' or whether it's all too late.
