If Henderson wants out and Yarran wants out- well let the club play hard ball with both and not be a soft touch for top up specialists lie Geelong and Hawthorn - we have become a laughing stock.
Given Hawthorn's modus operandi of paying very little for their top up players, we will have to play pretty hard ball if they want Yarran.

Have to be a decent player attached to their first rounder to get it done IMO. By a decent player I mean a damn sight better than Simpkin. Think the likes of Hartung of Langford, even if it means a sweetener from us.

Sometimes it is better to walk away from a deal that doesn't make you happy. If that means Henderson goes to PSD - that is fine for us as a Club.We have been on the wrong end of too many trades for too long. Same for Yarran - I really believe that Carlton has to be seen to be fair - but also be seen to be insistent on being treated fairly - and fair means a like for like deal or no deal. Henderson and Yarran are both much better players than they have shown this year- everyone knows it and we should be getting overs for both - not unders and a sheepish smile.

The other way of looking at it - is if you dont get a fair deal - all you end up with s second rate players clogging up list and confusing matters further.

I've heard we may be straight swapping Astbury for Yarran? What are Carlton peoples thoughts on the trade? Yarran is not worth a first rounder with his issue, so I think its fair. Astbury was leading our B&F last year before his injury.

Wouldn't even trade Ellard for Astbury.

Didn't mean to offend with that trade hypothetical. I think the old "each club rates their players more highly than opposition players" is coming into effect. I imagined carlton would want to be rid of him, given his attitude and effort in a club trying to rebuild it's culture. Again, I don't want to offend anyone, because at his best he is bloody good and I'm not sure if there are external factors causing him to be dropped for the second week.

So apparently Richmond have broken AFL rules and spoken directly to a player who is contracted for at least another year at another club.
You want him offer something pretty good or get lost.
Club culture is the most important thing for success. Having Yarran around will and is effecting other boys at your club. They will want to ship him off for whatever they can get, especially if he tells them directly that he does not want to be at the club next year.

Club culture is also refashioned by making examples of incidents similar to Yarran's unprofessional and immature discontent.
As far as a trade value, Richmond 1st rounder and Lennon or similar player potently would be acceptable, nothing less.
Otherwise he stews in seconds for another season and we get a compo pick as FA .For all we know a strong coach may just turn him around.
I rather he be disciplined then strengthen another team.
CFC has been negligent in allowing quality players go for naught.
Time to stop the trading inbalance to us detriment.

Not necessarily.
Even when Fev was a must sell, we still got suitable compo in return from the Lions.
If you think you can throw your rubbish at Carlton and get Yazz, who is contracted, in return, you re mistaken.

Lucky its not up to the players then.

Yarran is contracted. He has interest from several clubs. Forget the fire sale, not going to happen...

And will the new coach look at the list and think, I have no chance of turning one of our most talented players, who is entering his prime, into a valuable member of the team, lets ship him off for a slab of VB and a packet of salt and vinegar chips?

Or will he say, Yarran is fast, highly skilled (CAN HIT TARGETS!!!!!), has x factor, , I would love to have a crack at turning him around if we can't get a decent trade for him?

If it is the former, we have picked the wrong coach.

Astbury ??

What drugs are you on ??

Yarran may be in a form or attitude slump but he isn't a spud, other clubs will be offering way way way more than a plodder like Astbury for him.

If the Tigers are serious about winning his services, sharpen the pencil FFS.

If it's a straight swap it had to be for a best 22. A club will get a bargain for yarran but it won't be for nothing. Because if carlton doesn't like the deal we won't sell

Would be different if Yazz was out of contract ala Grigg and Jacobs situations, as at the end of the day, we had to take what we were given, but Yazz being contracted changes things.

First rounder and Astbury (big key position player leading our B&F last year before injury, plays forward and back) for Yarran doesn't garner any interest from you lot?

It's a damn sight better than just Astbury which was suggested above. I don't think Astbury really fits our age profile though (especially with injury concerns), maybe if we could package your first round + Astbury and then on trade it into the 8-12 pick range it would work. But really depends on what other clubs will offer.

From a Richmond perspective, this off season is imperative for us. Yarran is a high risk/high reward type - no certainty he'll find his best form again. Because of that, I reckon you guys will have to cop a little risk premium when it comes to cashing in his trade value. A 2nd rounder and decent player is what I'd be willing to pay. No doubt you all think he's worth more. We might need a third party to get it done this year, if it is to be.

Genuinely curious to know how you see this scenario playing out then. For the sake of this conversation, take Astbury out of the equation - what could you see as a satisfactory trade as a Tiger fan?
