1) Depends who's paying.
2) I'd be happy to give up a pick around 12-15, but knowing our club we'd trade Kreuzer and Cripps.
3) Mid first rounder, or late first + player.

Your earlier post: If Yarran doesn't want to be there, and he's not giving anything even at VFL level, would Carlton really play hardball at the trade table?

The answer is a resounding "****in' oath". He's contracted, and is only playing poorly because he wants out. The minute he steps into a new club he'll flick the switch turn it on again. Richmond's time is now, if they want to make a serious play for a flag it's gotta be in the next two years - if Yarran gets parked in our VFL team for all of next year, what kind of condition do you think he'll be in at season's end? He'll stack on the weight, lose most of his pace and touch, and will need a whole season to get back anywhere near his best. If you want him, now's the time - and a kid at pick 14 is all well and good, but by the time they're hitting their straps you've either got a flag or missed the boat anyway.

I can't see any reason for Richmond not to give up their first pick for him.
If Bolton gets the nod as coach, he'd be heading to Yarran first up and letting him know his role would be similar to Rioli's, that's he not going anywhere, he's going to make a serious name for himself under his coaching and become a genuine club champion.

I'll go with Tigers finishing 7th, pick 12 as their 1st.

Yarran, pick 20- Richmond
Pick 12, pick 31, pick 49- Carlton

Forward 31 to Brisbane for Aish, they may deem that better than nothing.

Essentially we'd be getting Aish and a pick upgrade of early 2nd for mid first, for Yarran. Plus another 3rd to perhaps help with Bailey & Jack. Unders for us maybe?

There can be only 1
What's he realistically worth then?
What would you expect to pay for him if he wasn't from your club?
What do you think Carlton will realistically accept if he says he wants to go to the Tigers?
If Yarran was at another club and we were targeting him then our list manager has no idea and should be sacked.

He is not the type of player we would target at this stage of our rebuild.

That's what they have been asking for. First rounder and an exchange of second rounders. Pick 49 does little to make that more palatable. If they finish 5th or 6th, deal is dead for me.

Aish for pick 31 would never fly. He's worth more than that plus there are a number of clubs after his signature.

I was more going on them coming 7th, maybe 8th. I'm just keen on turning 31 into Aish. I understand it might not be the best deal though.

On face value I'd agree. He's uncontracted obviously which helps, so would him nominating us. The PSD is always a threat if we indeed come 18th. Makes it sound a little less unrealistic to me.

I'm no list manager, but the idea of shafting opposition clubs in trade scenarios seems to be a recipe to future trading exile. A la Adrian Dodoro.

Oh I agree with that mate, more just the threat of it helps weaken their position. I certainly wouldn't entertain actually going through with it, sets a bad precedent for us.

With potentially up to 4 teams interested in Yaz (Tigers, Hawks, Crows, WCE) and the fact he is still contracted I think we are in a good position.

I'm more concerned about the Hendo deal. Out of contract and really only Geelong to deal with.

If brisbane pick up suckling id say something would be worked out between the 3 clubs if not i'd dash hawks off the list. Yaz would be a good replacement for suckers though.

Yes indeed, and if he becomes all he can at the Hawks, he will be a good replacement for Burgoyne not long afterwards.

He has troubles at the moment however which will need to be worked out before he is any good to anybody, including himself.

Dogs also interested in Hendo and no doubt other clubs too at the right price. Would be a great addition to a decent backline. At his best in oure defence, when it was functional at any rate, I remember him both beating his opponent and then running the ball out of defence and into attack.

Easy to forget how good he is after a couple of poor seasons, due to injury, being played out of position in the worst forward line since the Boer War and then being told he was expendable at the beginning of arguably the most horrible year in the club's history.

I love that posters have got the hump because he doesn't "bleed for the jumper" of the club that told him his love for it was unrequited.

Not sure if we'd give our first rounder in a straight swap, but we'll have to wait and see what that pick actually is.

Just on Yarran, we won't be recruiting him to play HBF, he'd be a mid/small forward. What's he like in that role? Could he flourish there? Would he lay tackles inside forward 50?

Better playing high - perhaps up on a wing. Him delivering inside 50 to Jack is a scary proposition.

He's certainly not a Betts/Wingard/Rioli type small/medium forward who can operate in heavy traffic - give him space and time and he'll slice through just about any defensive line in the comp.

Yeah, far better with a linking wind up running into the forward 50. Just needs to be far enough up the ground to have more impact offensively than HBF allows him. Funnily enough we have the replacement flankers if we can get them on the field but Yazz mentally probably doesn't want to take the chance. We have shifted him forward a couple of times this year but he had already mentally left.

Yazz is the burst player who will weave through traffic 70 metres out, test the fences around 50 and either kick the goal or find the leading forward and he can choose either option in a split second. Pure silk in this role and just needs that extra metre more than your Betts type of small forward so wasted in a FP. However, he is far more adept at getting up the ground and winning one on ones or linking through the corridor than Betts is. A half forward/midfield periphery player.

High Half Forward all the way.

People forget how good he is overhead when leading at the ball, did it very well in the early days. Then someone decided he was a backman.

One thing thats not been mentioned is what would yarran's be worth ?
Not sure if srs. There are plenty of guestimations of his worth in this thread - from Carlton and non-Carlton fans.

This is my favourite one:
Depends on our need for him, whether we rate him for his best form rather than one disinterested year. Remember Betts was decidedly average in his last year with us but Adelaide had been watching him for a lot longer and judged him based on his better form.

#6, sublimely skilled. A real point of difference for a challenging side. Not even 25 yet. He has done enough to be rated, not a constant disappointment. Accepting a deterioration because he is being a sook, something around #12-#18 with possible steak knives.

No swapping of 2nd rounders as some are suggesting. You want him, pay for him. We're not losing much by refusing.
