Top effort Boy. Top effort.

From North Melbourne's perspective, we did okay from that draft.

I definitely can't see Rohan sliding out of the top 10, but apart from that, a good phantom draft.

Inspired stuff Chris. Especially like the addition of Hutchings. Bring on the blue collar mids.

Chances are most teams will finish picking after the third round this year, and I would be surprised if any kept picking into the fifth round. So I would suggest treating the fourth and fifth rounds as essentially the first couple of rounds of the rookie draft.

I've read a lot about how this draft is supposedly a lot weaker than usual, and after doing this phantom draft it made me realise that it actually is. The players taken in the later rounds are potentially good players, but I feel the chances of a lot of them making it are slimmer than in past years.

That being said though, teams passing earlier could mean that some good players slip through to the rookie draft. So in a few years, there could well be some very good rookie upgrades.

Why wouldn't Freo not look at Griffiths or Fitzpatrick with their 2nd? I have hope that Black will still be there.

I don't rate Fitzpatrick but I wouldn't mind Griffiths if we couldn't get Black. That being said we did get Brad Sheppard instead and he will be a genuine AFL talent.

Great work :thumbsu:

I just don't believe Gary Rohan, Daniel Talia, Koby Stevens, Allen Christensen will all slip down the list. Maybe one or two, maybe.

Also I feel Essendon is no chance at taking Jetta with pick 10. We will be going hard for midfielders this year.

Essendons pick 10 IMO wil be:
Cunnington (if available)
Tapscott (if available)
Stevens

EDIT: Also, I rate Rohan better then the three I mentioned. I just don't believe he will slip to 10.

If Melbourne uses pick 50 i would rather them use it on preferably Hill develop him as a ruckman/KPF like Kosi or Temel.

Nice work Chris, good read.

Just a quick question - do you see any guys like Alex Stopp (Norwood) being picked up this year? I note that he tested pretty well at the State Screening on the weekend (so someone nominated him?) and think that this type (State player from 08, played senior footy 09) could come into the equations for a few clubs towards the death of the draft?

great effort to put so much time into it. like other essendon fans, i don't think jetta is in the frame at #10. hamilton is on record recently as stating that we want a hard-running inside mid and a medium forward. Williams appears to be the solution to the latter.

Apparently, Melksham is firmly on the cards for #10.

Apparently Stopp broke the beep test record at the SA screening, with a 15.9 (previous best was Jarrad McVeigh with 15.4). As I mentioned before, I think most clubs will stop picking around the 50-60 mark, so someone like Stopp is probably looking at the rookie draft. And I would think he would get a serious look at after his screening results.

As for the whole Essendon/Jetta selection which keeps popping up, the selection was possibly based more on Jetta than Essendon. People tend to keep putting him with Brisbane or Adelaide, but I tend to think he will either go to Essendon, Melbourne or he will stay in Perth. I don't actually know the guy, but by all reports he is a tad shy and I think the most important thing will be that he goes to a club with a good network around him. Jetta is also a better player than some might give him credit for, and is more than just an outside midfielder.

I could handle Melksham, rather Stevens though.

12. Carlton - Aaron Black
After trading away Fevola the Blues should look at drafting a new key forward here. Black is the best available, and he will provide the target they will be sorely missing. Henderson will likely play forward, but ultimately I think he will move to defence and will play his best football down back. While there is only so much you can ask Fisher, Waite and O’hAilpin to do, although they will at least give Black some time to develop.

13. Adelaide - Gary Rohan
I just can’t see Rohan going in the top 10, the second half of the first round is more his area. And Adelaide should be rapt to get him here. Rohan offers speed and defensive pressure off half forward, which is exactly what Adelaide need. The fact that he doesn’t win a lot of the ball won’t be an issue at the Crows, as they have other players who do just that.
We passed on Rohan?

Is Rohan a chance to slide this far?

Rohan wouldn't slip past Melbourne who suggested they made a mistake in not drafting Lewis Jetta last year.

Yarran, Garlett, Rohan, Betts and Robinson would run down half backs if they dared to stop and think about their options bringing the ball out of the backline.

Is Rohan a good kick and a physical player?

Hardness and skill are the two things Hughes targeted in the last two drafts.

I think we might jump at Tapscott if he was there.
43. Carlton – Myles PittI think Carlton have more than enough midfield depth, while their defence and ruck stocks are pretty good. So I’ve gone with another forward. Pitt is a lead up third tall, and has a good set of hands on him. Basically, Pitt will hopefully be what Fisher should have been. I think Pitt could come in and have an impact in his first year, and should give them another dimension up forward.

47. Brisbane Lions – David Astbury

After trading away Henderson, who was one of Brisbane’s few good young KPP’s, Brisbane will surely look to strengthen their talls with this pick. Astbury is a KPP who can play forward or back, and I think Astbury will develop into a solid key defender. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them draft a ready made player though as clearly they want that premiership now, and Astbury will probably require a couple of seasons in the gym.

I hope we draft Astbury with this pick if we draft a medium with pick 12.

Astbury would become a cult figure overnight.

David Astbury is a great name. :footy:

Great work, but Rohan is going top 10 defiently, I talked to a drafting official or whatever and they know he will go higher then expected.
