Good work, Boy. As you've said, if North can get Cunnington and Panos, that's a steal with their first two picks. It'd probably be unlikely though, with more than two teams before pick 21 likely to take KPFs.

Also, Tapscott and Rohan will both go higher than you've got them. Just my opinion.

North was a hard one to draft for, just because they clearly need everything. And unfortunately I wasn't able to draft them a whole new list, so they'll just have to make do with the likes of Warren, Greenwood and Wright for now....

Essendon finished drafting after the second round, and their list shows it. A solid utility, two promising midfielders and a monster ruckman. A pretty good draft for Essendon, and it should hold their midfield in good stead.

I must admit i haven't seen much of Moore but he looks alright on his YouTube video. Great hands and used the ball well.

Happy with the last three picks. I believe we need another ruckman as i don't hold much hope for Bock making it.

A very tall draft for Fremantle, and they are still lacking a genuine midfielder or two. But there are still some options left in the rookie draft, Hutchings for one. But with the two new teams coming in, Fremantle will have hopefully drafted their future spine.

I think this will be a good result for Freo. I am not so convinced we are short of another mid. Remember Palmer comes back next year and I reckon we will be pleasantly surprised by Chris Hall. Having said that we would concentrate on midfielders and a project ruckman in the RD. Add Mcdonald in the psd and it would be a very productive off season

You then give us Duncan..... can maybe live with that .... but you give us a player who doesn't have much pace.

Then for the crowning glory deliver us Fitzpatrick who most except you dont rate as worthy of a pick that early.

So by taking Fitzpatrick we pass on all three of Bastinac , Christensen and Colyer.

Yeah right.

Well as a Fremantle supporter I can see why you would be happy with our selections.

Tissue Monocle. Its a phantom draft ( a pretty good one too thanks Chris) and a number of the others have Jetta heading your way at 7. Take Colyer intead of Fitzpatrick inside your head. Feel better?

I think most people would rate Jetta as a genuine chance to be drafted at #7, and the fact is that he wont be available come West Coast's second pick. I think West Coast will be extremely interested in him, and as I mentioned with Lucas having been picked by Sydney, I think Jetta will be next on their list.

Duncan doesn't have pace as you said, but he more than makes up for that.

As for Fitzpatrick, he gets treated very harshly. I think most people (who go on more than just BigFooty group think) would actually rate him as a top 25 pick, and he could go earlier. It's become popular on BigFooty to dislike Fitzpatrick, but he has all the attributes to be a star. I would be more than happy with Fitzpatrick at Fremantle.

Personally, I think West Coast did well from my draft. But I'm not expecting every Eagles fan to agree.

i reckon you can say yes about a player after 1 game, but not no.
On that basis I say yes to Black, Colyer, Fyfe & Neates,
but I won't say no to Winmar, nor Luff yet.
also if Busher is the son of one of my dad's mates as i think he is he will be a big fella with a great aggressive attitude.

We don't have an urgent need for defenders or rucks, we will probably pick one or two up as developement players with late/rookie picks and we have enough players to play small forward, but otherwise we should be concentrating on mids and a KPF.

I would accept Jetta at 7, we have a need for a fast and flashy outside wingman/ HFF.

You have selected a medium paced Utility in Duncan, i would like him because he is 100% a footballer. Has a good tank, great mark, dead eye dick and great skills.

Fitzpatrick will play ruck at AFL level, i see no future as KPP for him at AFL level.

We will go after a draft of Medium/ Smalls who will put on defensive pressure in our 50 and attack the scoreboard. Im sure if a notable KPP is available we might go after them, but Fitzpatrick wont be on our Radar.

I went on a combination of what I thought each club needed, and what supporters said they needed. For West Coast, that ended up as a small crumbing forward, a versatile KPP and a medium forward to allow LeCras to move up the ground.

I think Jetta will, like most players, start his career up forward. And for small, crumbing forwards the rookie draft is as good a place as any, and there are plenty of options available both from WA and interstate (the NT have some good ones...).

As for Fitzpatrick, I do see a a future for him as a KPP. I think he may well rotate with Naitanui between ruck and the forward line, but I see him being able to hold down a key position. Obviously if you don't agree with that though, you wont agree with the selection.

I'll be extremely surprised and disappointed if Hale plays any games next year (not including the first 2 where Petrie is suspended).

As for needing bigger bodies down in defence, i've told you time and time again that you're full of shit on this topic. Thompson was bordering on AA this year, and Grima was superb in his first full year. With another preseason under their belts this year, they're both going to be gun defenders.

The only real gaps we have on our list are more depth and talent in the midfield (Hello, Cunnington!) and maaaaaybe another KPF. That's about it. Our list is actually in pretty good shape, and this year we turned over the lowest amount of 'talent' than we have in the past few years.

What I mean by that, is that this year from our solid best 22 we lost Adam Simpson and Josh Gibson. In previous years we've lost players like Shannon Grant, Nathan Thomspon, Glenn Archer, Jess Sinclair, etc etc.

We're going to be okay in 2010.

Geelong and Brisbane will each gain one more selection, Hawthorn and Richmond will take another two players, while Sydney will lose one.

You've stated you based this phantom alot needs, yet I would value my goldfish' NM list evaluation over yours, you've clearly no idea about the players you are talking about (NM listed ones).

What do you mean, what is after Thompson, Grima and Hansen?

How many tall defenders does a side need? as you said, if injury does strike, there is always Petrie, Firrito and Delaney has shown some promising signs on the rookie list.


Impressive for new players? ffs.

Thompson averaged 15 possessions a game playing on the best forward every week, Gerrard Healy said he was in AA form midway through the season, not bad for his first full season, wouldn't you say? With the other coming off a knee reconstruction.

In what fantasy world is a players position set in stone for the entire year? The fact that David Hale spent the end of the season in the VFL would indicate there is plenty of ruck depth at North Melbourne in the case of injury.



Again im so glad you are able to write off players like Warren and Greenwood, two of our more impressive youngsters this year, I dare say Greenwood will play 22 games this season with the form he showed in the second half of the year, even drawing plaudits for his jobs on Dal Santo and Judd, and if it wasn't for a broken leg, Ben Warren would of played most of the games this year.


As for Wright, the guy is a first year player, second round draft pick, that managed some good games this year, considering his body size.

Its like me saying; Fremantle should load up on some more midfielders, Nick Suban, Hayden Ballantyne, Chris Mayne and Rhys Palmer are OK, but I wouldn't be pinning my hopes on them making it.

Oh btw, Stephen Hill is a crumber at best.

I think the thing is, we will be drafting for needs, not injury cover, we're not at that stage. We've got places in our midfield and forward line where the personnel needs improving if we are going to be a good side. We can be a good side with the personnel we have in the Key backs and rucks.

Yes, if we had injuries there might be problems, but its actually not that bad. Currently we'd have Grima and Hansen, with Thomspon on 3rd tall...if one of the first two was injured we'd move Thompson onto the 2nd tall and have Loose or Spud on the third tall. If it was a long term injury or if more injuries occured we'd probably elevate Obst, who looks like he might get another year on the rookie list, and would be a much better option for injury cover than anyone we pick up through the draft. And beyond that we have Delaney who did well in the VFL before injury this year.

Rucks, there's no point using an earlyish pick on a ruck when we have 2 guys who look like being our combination for the next 6 years or so, given we have 2 guys who at a pinch can fill in for them, even if they can also play elsewhere. We also have a few options that could pinch hit and would enable us to just play one of the main rucks if needs be. There's probably some merit in rookieing a project ruck.

#11 Melbourne - Nathan Vardy
In my opinion, Melbourne need a quality ruckman and none of their current ones have shown all that much (although Jamar looks to be becoming a fan favourite). Vardy is the best ruckman in the draft, but I don't think he will be around at their next pick. So I think Melbourne could pull a surprise and jump at him here. Having said that Vardy is still deserving a pick this high, because he does look to be a very promising young ruckman, but the lack of talls does help him in this case.

i would prefer to get Carlisle or Black rather than Vardy and get Vardy with a later pick. but anyway good job

Given our delisting of a few talls (Hughes, Pattison, Putt, Polak) I'm thinking that we will be targetting KPP types in the draft. Using your draft as a guide I would prefer we went:

Martin - midfielder
Black - KPF
Shaw - KPP
Hooper - small defender
Hartigan - KPD
Ledin - midfielder
another midfielder

That would see us use 7 picks in the ND on kids and then look at who is best available for our pick 2 in the PSD. Preferrably we would take another kid that missed out on being drafted or maybe someone like McDonald from the Lions to add a bit of experience and depth to the midfield.

I'll be adding another two picks for Richmond over the weekend, after their delistings yesterday.

I've yet to decide whether I'll be changing the draft too much, or giving them one of the players that missed out. But one pick will go to a KPP, probably Thompson or Busher. And the other will be a pass or possibly someone like McAdam, just to give a bit of extra skill and flair.
