Re: A Mock Draft In June?

at the moment, im sold on coniglio/ patton/ wingard for 1.2.3

then the next group

longer, elton, ??? who else.. crozier, buntine, d.smith??

for me alot of names shaping up as good teens/20's picks

mckenzie, waldhuter, grigg, clay smith, taylor adams????etc

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Reckon the Demons are more likely to go for a quality flanker (at either end), a mid-sized defender with good footskills or classy, speedy outside player rather than a forward. Personally reckon our forward stocks are now overflowing with talent, and we're let down more in other departments.

Like I said, I haven't put a great deal of focus on needs in this mock. But having said that, I think Jacquier fits a lot of what you said.

He is more of a half forward, similar to Jeremy Howe except a better crumber when the ball hits the ground. He is good around the goals, but also has nice foot skills and takes a strong mark, so he could easily work his way up the ground along the flanks and wing like Fyfe. Would be a decent link up player, while also offering another avenue to goal.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Funnily enough Chris25 you have picked Will Hoskin-Elliot for North who is one guy I like the look of so far. Are you able to tell me a bit about his attributes?

Also, how's Gav Roberts going? I was really glad he got picked up by Freo last year. Really like the look fo him from the year before. Looked like a really good dark horse type.

There is a lot to like about him. He is just one of those players who makes everything look really nice. Good clean hands and foot skills, moves well over the ground too. He is a little shorter and a better ball winner, but he isn't unlike Kieran Haprer who I'm sure you'd be enjoying as a North fan.

As for Gavin, unfortunately I haven't had a lot of work to do as his buddy this year. We had him on a tailored program when he was first drafted, because obviously he has had a few soft tissue injuries. He eventually got up to playing, but after two reserves games in the WAFL he went down with a quad injury. Still another month to go until he is right again.

I'm just hoping we stick it out with him. He'll be a quality player if he ever gets over these injuries.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Is there anything that the Gold Coast really need though? Quality is quality.

Buntine is a favourite of mine. Plays quite a bit like Goddard, in that he is an attacking defender/midfielder more than an actual tall defender. He has good foot skills, and I could just imagine him on one side and McKenzie on the other. Who do you tag?

Haydn Hector, Mitch Grigg, Luke Brown and Sam Milne are some of the midfielders that were on the cusp. And I mentioned Michael Talia, Piva Wright and Fraser McInness before as some talls.

My hope is that Fremantle get an end of first round compensation pick for Rhys Palmer, and we then take Shane Kersten either with our first rounder or with that compensation pick. So obviously he is another I rate.

Very true. Sounds like a likely type. Looks to have a ready made build too which is a plus and the type of player I'm hoping we can pick-up - someone who's ready to go.. Cheers.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

somehow my hopes of seeing Wingard slip to ports pick (probable 4 or 6) is unlikely, can you more keener tac cup watchers see Wingard slipping? or does injury need to intervene? Also can you see GWS trading pick 3 to Port for r first rounder + Salopek/Ebert (port would probable wont a 3rd rounder or something as well)

would be worth asking but to me wingard has sheeds and choco written all over him. looks exactly like the type of player they love. explosive balanced speedster with x-factor.

shiels treloar coniglio wingard golds

thats a ridicluous midfield already. they have so much talent. i think looking at the draft and the players they have they will have a super midfield and classy flankers, but i dont see the talls that gc have. may have to target a few of these specifically, whether in draft or with their uncontracted signings. if you add scully to that list it looks so good.

please post your thoughts after raymann

you really rate tomlinson that highly?? is he a true key position player or more a tall mobile hff??

grigg is having a good champs. comes down to his testing ild think. neddy (another poster here) seemed to think pre-champs that he wouldnt make the cut at afl level.

i also see bolger as a teens/ early 20s pick. my ?? over devon is his height, will that stop him being top 10?? ild think gws could take a chance on him with a pick from 10-12 maybe?

4/ gc ? key defender/ class hff ( crozier) /best available

6/ pafc mid/kf/ruck elton/smith height issue?/ longer risk?

8/ bris kpp/ mid/ class flanker (buntine?)

10 adelaide mid! grigg? need more of a class user runner.

12 dogs kpp bussey?

14 saints everything best avail.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

That would probably be the one. Was trying to work out who Knightmare meant, I was thinking SA kids so Buntine didn't occur to me. I do love to talk up my favourites though, so I'll take any chance to talk about Rankine.

As for Buntine, he had a good first up match but then didn't play against the NT. And he was injured pretty early on against SA, so he hasn't really had a chance to shine yet in the championships.

Loved Rankine last year. Terrible blonde moment on my part.

Buntine is the one I meant. Injury would make sense because he hasn't stood out like we know he can. Do you have any knowledge of what the injury concerns are?
Hopefully he rebounds over the last couple.

Buntine got a corkie early in the first qtr, some of the reason why VC faded badly in the second half. Should be right for the next game v WA wont play this week for the Rays.

Yep, liking Harps so far. He has done really well at VFL level and looks a cut above for natural talent at that level. Hasn't done a great deal in the seniors but when he gets the ball something good usually comes of it. Lots of upside for sure.

Hoskin-Elliot sounds perfect. We are definitely after a skilled user of the ball that can cover the ground well. I'll be keeping my eye out for players like that in the coming months who could be available in the mid to late teens.

Perhaps he is just growing into his body. Tall, skinny kids can have issues with hammy's. quads etc. His left boot and pace will be serious weapons if he can get himself right.

Cheers mate.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Thought I would throw a few more names out there, looking in particular at South Australia. Obviously everyone knows Chad Wingard by now, while Josh Waldhuter, Brad McKenzie, Lewis Hender and Matthew Jacquier all featured in my draft.

Alex Forster is another one of those attacking half backs, but he has the height so that he could play on the medium forwards too. He shouldn't have to wait too long before getting his name read out.

For KPPs, there isn't much to talk about really. I mentioned Aseri Raikiwasa earlier, and I do like him. The overaged Patrick Levicki is one of the few guys over 190cm. At Norwood he spends a fair bit of time in the ruck, but is a key defender for SA. He does look a likely type, and is quite mobile for a big guy similar to a Tom Williams or Cale Hooker.

Two other 19 year olds will also be on the radar - Jordan Murdoch and Luke Brown. I haven't seen much of Murdoch, but have heard good things. While Brown has been playing seniors in the SANFL, and won the Rising Star nomination in his first game. Plays as a medium defender and through the midfield, he is probably the one who could surprise, and go earlier than maybe expected.

Grats on the mod Chris. Is it just for the drafts & trading forum?

Yeah, just for the Drafts & Trading boards. I'll see what I can do about getting those lazy Fremantle mods to start doing some work.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Coniglio. Patton. Wingard. Top 3. Obviously.

Duffy isn't good enough to go top 20, although Cam Eardley and Elliot Yeo are. Bit of bias as I'm an East Fremantle supporter, but they are pretty good if you ask me.

KJ.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Why is Max Duffy going so high? Do you rate him?

I do like Duffy. I don't think he has necessarily improved as much as he should have (or what may have been expected) over the last year, but initial signs and natural talent are enough to have him high in my opinion.

A few of the later picks in my draft were prospects I find interesting, so although he may not be that high come draft day, I like him as a player.

Nothing wrong with bias. I don't really support any state sides, although I guess I may have a preference towards Norwood and Swan Districts.

And I would agree with you about Eardley. Not unlike Fasolo, and should be looked at quite closely. I haven't seen enough of Yeo, but have heard good things about him from someone else. Looking forward to seeing both of them more over the next couple of months.

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

When do you think GWS will declare there there top 3? praying that Wingard slides...

Port need a young SA mid that isn't injury prone

Re: A Mock Draft In June?

Tasmania are the only Division 2 team which is not compromised in some way by the new teams this year, shame because it limits the draft pool but the good news is that it might result in increased attention for some Tasmanian prospects.

Coming into the Championships, Jimmy Webster was my favourite. Although he has had a relatively quiet month or so, what he has that some of his fellow midfielders don't have is size. I'm expecting him to test pretty well later in the year too, so I still think he will be the first of the Tasmanians to get drafted.

John McKenzie has probably been the standout for Tasmania so far, racking up the possessions and finding the goals too. He is a tough midfielder, but a lack of height will limit him going into the draft. More sub-180cm players are getting their chance, the question will just be how long he has to wait.

The other midfielder of real interest is Dylan Riley. Uses the ball well and displays good attack on the ball, I think he'll make himself a home on a back flank at AFL level.

Overall, this draft isn't stocked will KPP talent. But Tasmania do have a few on offer. I haven't seen much of Dobosz or Schade, but from what I hear they both have talent and while raw could be a nice project for whichever club takes them on. Mihocek has had a decent Championships so far, and I know one person who has been keen on him for a while. And Ben Brown has made his return from injury too.

Only four Tasmanians were drafted last year, but I would expect that number to be greater this time around.

Fasolo! Speaking of him, how about his brother Lewis. I think he's 20 or so, but still considered a solid player.

Think he is 21 now, but I don't mind what I've seen of him. Solid ball winner, will all depend on where teams view his ceiling as being. There are a few 'mature aged' WAFL players who might get a look in ahead of him though - Blackwell, Cook, Mitchell, Jetta and maybe even Palumbo just to name a few (Lee and Busher too if I had my way). Wouldn't mind seeing a couple of old Dockers in Foster and O'Brien getting another shot too.
