End of the day, I guess he is trying to cobble together various left-right ideologies to appeal to as many people as possible.
That would be his aim.
When I think of eco-warrior I think of protesting the Adani coal mine, we all have different outlooks.

Can't say how or why but I've seen the entire shooting/massacre video.
Absolutely disgustingly unbelievable. It was exactly like watching a video game but it will haunt the people and families involved forever.
To say it was a cowardice act is being too harsh to cowards. It was non-human.

I know it was a moron targeting Muslims but quite honestly the human race was the real target.
POTY.

Shocking stuff. It's so sad that we have an increasing level of barracking and teams in the political/societal sphere. We saw it in the aftermath with that politician and the egg as well as the shooting itself. The politician delighted because it was the opposite team. The egg kids team pleased with that incident because it was done to the opposite team. There's no place for violence and we should leave the barracking, polarisation and teams to footy. This is why we love it and this should be our outlet.

If he got in on 19 votes, he will have doubled that and some by attracting those who think like him now that they really know what he stands for. That is how things are.

Not speaking for Viking but what disturbs me is that we had a group of Kiwis peacefully going about their lives murdered in cold blood. Faith should be irrelevant, but the perpetrator allegedly appears to be of a mindset that it is, is an indicator of evil and should not be tolerated in his world. How his behaviour was conditioned to this outcome is a broader question. But 50 kiwis in one of the most peaceful and diverse countries on earth were murdered by an Australian. That saddens me, as does the discussion around murdered catholics, protestants, muslims and which should be considered more important in the scheme of AFL and broader community recognition.

Just my view.

Again the 19 votes is a misnomer. He was elected by people voting above the line for One Nation, and not below the line for him as an individual.

I was going to ask you the same question earlier. I think unanimously we are all in agreement with our condemnation of the perpetrators intentions, or his quasi manifesto. Who would have thought that an Australian would kill 50 Kiwi's. I am glad you reference them as Kiwi's and not new arrivals, Muslim immigrants or another term to in some way 'lessen' the horror. But it is without doubt that the outrage would have been more if they were not Muslim immigrants. But then again, a right wing nutters may not have had such inhuman intentions with 'ordinary Kiwi's'. If anything good could come from this at all it is that events like this highlight just how real things can get when the us and them attitude to members of our communities are allowed to fester. This might make people realise we are all much the same.

What do you, as a kiwi, think is an appropriate gesture on AFL fields this weekend, vis a vis the C/church shooting? Armbands? silence? is it worth someone like Bachar discuss Islam a bit? As I've said I'm an agnostic aussie. I don't even like the amount the national anthem is played. I think patriotism and nationalism are too easily confused. As Orwell said
“Nationalism is not to be confused with patriotism. Both words are normally used in so vague a way that any definition is liable to be challenged, but one must draw a distinction between them, since two different and even opposing ideas are involved. By ‘patriotism’ I mean devotion to a particular place and a particular way of life, which one believes to be the best in the world but has no wish to force on other people. Patriotism is of its nature defensive, both militarily and culturally. Nationalism, on the other hand, is inseparable from the desire for power. The abiding purpose of every nationalist is to secure more power and more prestige, not for himself but for the nation or other unit in which he has chosen to sink his own individuality.”

What it does highlight is that the Australian electoral rules are ******, it should be first past the post , not the bloke finishing second winning because of preferences from the lunatic fringe

Well that would simply pretty much kill minor parties and independent candidates,

what needs to happen is you must make it so you cant vote above the line and must vote below.

that way the preference deals dont work unless the unwashed masses take the time to read the little booklets the volunteers give you and you sheepishly follow the instructions printed within.

The the major difference in this shooting is the fact he is Australian. A lunatic fascist one at that. And has killed 50 people.
And the question that I asked earlier. Over 200 Muslim 'Australians' have gone to the Iraq and Syria to fight for ISIS. In their dream to establish an Islamic Caliphate they have participated in massacres, mass rapes and torture (and of those that haven't personally committed these acts, they have at least supported and enabling those that have). All of which has utterly dwarfed what happened in Christchurch. Do we have a minutes silence for the victims of these Muslim fascists?

The whataboutisms are what annoy me - 'oh what about the attacks on Christians in Nigeria, the bombing of the Catholic church in the Philippines - why no minute's silence for them?' (I note no one's mentioned the recent school shooting in Brazil but maybe that doesn't fit the narrative).

I think you hit the point on the first page - it seems that as a society we will always focus on things that are closer to home (both in a physical sense as well as societies that are perceived to be similar to ours).

Is there a conversation to be had about how we seem to so easily compartmentalise human tragedy depending on the distance between it and us, and how the media helps feed in to this? Probably. Is now the time to have it? I don't think so.

So let me clarify this, if there is a reprisal massacre of Christians in any other part of the world in response to Christchurch you would say 'no' for a minutes silence?

He didn't finish "second," One Nation won two Queensland senate seats in the 2016 election, which were given to Pauline and Malcolm Roberts. Roberts was caught up in that dual citizen stuff and was declared ineligible, after a re-count, Fraser, who was listed 3rd on the list of One Nation candidates, was elected in place of Roberts. Not entirely sure why, but he abandoned One Nation and sat as an independent. He briefly joined Katter's Australian Party last year.

My comment was in response to a point about shootings in the Philippines by non Australians....On actions by Australians in Iraq, Syria. Can you pinpoint massacres that they have been involved in? I noticed Prakash has been sentenced to 7 years. That'll do me. I don't want eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also

Mate he finished third, there are plenty in parliament who finished second and got in on a dodgy preference deal, dr Karen Phelps comes to mind I’m sure there are others she got 29% of the vote the other bloke got 41 and she got in,is that democracy?

The Fulani Muslim terrorist group have killed 120 Christians over the last 3 weeks in Nigeria and more than 1 thousand over the past 2 years. Where is the outrage and worldwide sympathy for them! There is not enough compassion on 10 Earths to fill the hole left by a conflict that began 1400 years ago when a political ideology was born that declared war on all others. That said, violence against non-combatants is never justified.
